So another contestant likely boosting their social media stats.. I don't remember this happening through season 19 to 22 (time I've been active) but I may have just missed it.

There was nobody pathetic enough on those seasons to do that, as far as i remember.

I don't spend much time on other social media because of the overall time drain, but like RTV, I do spend a bit of time on YouTube, and looking at the data there, I have to say that on more than a few occasions, one contestant's stat increases raised eyebrows.Β  That contestant is Mac.Β  There were occasions his views and likes would increase in sustained spurts of up to 2-3x the rate of the next nearest competitor.Β  Really sticks out compared to the other contestants, whose arcs I'm happy to report are all pretty much consistent with expectations.Β Β

Do these jumps in YT views and likes bother anyone other than IDF? I can't see many other people caring.

Β

This isn't new.Β  The first person I recall it being raised about was Hannah Kirby in Season 8.

Β

Actually, it doesn't bother me personally.Β  But I'm using the data a little differently from some others here.Β  I'm simply using it to obtain a somewhat consensus assessment of past performances.Β  I just like to gauge how my fav performances have been received by others of a significant sample size.Β  So if any data happens to be suspect or unreliable, it's easy to just dismiss it as unusable.Β  I like Mac, but he's not in my Top 5 anyways, so no biggie in that sense. If it were one of my favs, I'd perhaps be disappointed, from an ethical standpoint.Β  It'd be sad to think one of my favs was either that vain, or wanted to win that much at any cost.Β  On the other hand, for those here having fun predicting futureΒ outcomes based on social data, this is good to know I suppose.Β  It's like, for example, recognizing that a fair portion of Nini's support is from overseas, therefore it would be logical to factor that into any prediction regarding her.

Β

I don't recall there being that much controversy regarding Hannah's numbers, and she didn't go that deep into lives anyways.Β  But I do remember Hannah being a bit more YouTube savvy than her peers, she had a ton of performance vids posted pre-Voice.Β  I also recall a certain beloved Team Adam member (RIP her soul) coming in with astronomical numbers of followers, and yet losing out in the end to competitors with mere fractions of those numbers, which is why I think what's as important is actual engagement data.Β  But yeah, this is all mostly an IDF thing.Β  Don't think much of anyone else outside of IDF cares, LOL.

So yeah, based on YT views + likes %, Mac is #1 heading into lives tonight.

Top 5: Mac, Ruby, Nini, Huntley, Tanner.

TopΒ  9:Β Mac, Ruby, Nini, Huntley, Tanner, Jacquie, Lila, Kara, BIAS.

10-12: Mara, Azan, Jordan.

Β

As usual, pinch of salt here.Β  Casuals will need to vote in greater numbers than they have in the past, and contestants may/will perform differently live than they have in the playoffs.

I'm skeptical about Mac's social media numbers. He had 3.2M views and close to 320k likes on TikTok. Right now he has 3.5M views, but his likes have gone from 320k to almost 450k. And I've seen a similar pattern for his other performances as well on TikTok.

Β

Β

nothing skeptical whatsoever about it... it's gone viral.... the amount of celebrities commenting under his posts is insane.. unless he paid them to ? lol Luke James/Michelle Williams/Amber Riley/Vivica Fox.. lol... and I think the fact that he looks like DaBaby is helping too.. ppl are commenting a lot that they didn't know dababy could sing lolΒ

I think the point isn’t necessarily the amount of views, but the rate that the likes are increasing at a very irregular rate compared to the views.

Β

I want to give contestants the benefit of the doubt as much as possible, but it is quite suspicious imo.

What makes this interesting is how well he's doing across ALL social media platforms. It's not like it's just one platform he's doing well on, it's everywhere.Β

Β

Those instagram numbers are literally insane, but they actually seem organic given the comments. YT, on the other hand... I understand the suspicion.

Β

The playoff performance was excellent, so I could see it going viral, but I'm also a little skeptical.

Any other song hints from contestants or other sources?

Β

All I've read so far is :Β  1. Jacquie hinting she'd be covering a "current" country singer, andΒ  2. Tanner's hint "Thanks!", and him saying we'd never be able to guess his song.Β  Have I missed anything?

Β

Hoping Jacquie sings some Carly Pierce, maybe "What He Didn't Do" or Caitlyn Smith's "Maybe in a Another Life", and I reckon a likely choice for Tanner, as already mentioned here, would be "Gratitude" by Brandon Lake, though I'd be pumped if it turned to to be "Thnks fr th Mmrs" by Fall Out Boy!

Β

Edited:

Maybe for Tanner?Β  A Lauren Daigle song worked for Carter, and this one is a good one too...

And maybe this one for a Nashville based country contestant... Perhaps Jordan (she could use a shake up and change of pace?), or Bias (would be interesting to hear a rawer, more torn up voice on this):

According to Kristi Turnquist, Jacquie said during a phone interview, "I can just tell you that it's a newer song, and I'm really, really, really excited for it."

Β

I have no idea what song it is, but she seems happy about the choice.

Β

At 0:39 in her most recent TikTok video, Jacquie said, "By some horrible, horrible chance that I'm in the bottom four on Tuesday, I will need your vote then." So I'm a little concerned about her instant save selection.

If Jacquie is singing a current female country artist, I’d say her likeliest choices are Carly Pearce, Lainey Wilson or Megan Moroney. Possibly Ashley McBryde or Gabby Barrett.

Jacquie said in an Instagram video that her instant save song is "beautiful". She's not saying the instant save would be horrible because of her dislike of her song (in fact I think she loves the song). She just doesn't want to sing it because of the situation the instant save puts contestants in, regardless of how she feels about the song she'll sing.

That's good to hear. I don't have Instagram or other social media accounts, so I miss information on those platforms.

Β

Considering the stress of the instant save situation itself, contestants should be able to perform a song they're comfortable with. Unfortunately, they don't always think about their song choices carefully enough when compiling their list.

Β

Pete Mroz (Team Blake s20) comes to mind. Granted, he should've learned the words to Dan + Shay's "Speechless" and been better prepared in general for his wildcard instant save performance. But contestants should never put a song they don't know on that list.
