Kimmy Gabriela/Makayla Phillips - prefer kimmy's ariana cover, feel like makayla was holding back

Dillon James/Louis Knight/Cyniah Elise/Grace Leer - they were safe, didn't move the dial in either direction imo

 

Sophia James/Julia Gargano - they would normally be a couple spots higher, but these two took a step back

 

Olivia Ximines - i thought she would fumble bc she's very performance driven but i don't think she did

Lauren Spencer-Smith/Jonny West/Nick Merico - did what they were supposed to do

I was underwhlemed with the performances, pretty much all of them...having them perform at home just didn't have the same impact and I didn't think many of them were good at first listen...so I had to change my mind numerous times and listen to them again and again...

I keep changing my mind on what I think is good and what's not...I liked Makayla, Francisco and Lauren and maybe a few others, but about 15 of these people I can't decide if I liked their performances or not...i think that the format didn't do them any favors though...it just didn't have the same impact in my opinion...it was just YouTube covers on a TV screen...just very underwhelming...

I'm not going to do the Who Sang It Best comparison, instead just ranking the Top 20:

 

1.  Lauren Spencer-Smith - “Mamma Knows Best” (Jessie J) -- I really should have voted for her instead of Olivia and Cyniah.  She was excellent and should make it to the Top 10.

2.  Kimmy Gabriela - “Leave Me Lonely” (Ariana Grande & Macy Gray) -- I also should have voted for her instead of Olivia and Cyniah, but I didn't realize she'd do as well as she did.  I'm glad she didn't do "All I Ask" as this suited her so well.  She improved her performance skills and I love the home set design.

3.  Just Sam - “I Believe” (Fantasia) -- she's still my favorite and this was good enough to get her to the Top 10, but I would not have advised her to choose a coronation single by Fantasia.  It's just begging for comparisons and more often than not, you're going to wind up on the losing end.

4.  Jonny West - “What a Wonderful World” (Louis Armstrong) -- I love this song and this performance was so enjoyable.

5.  Francisco Martin - “Teenage Dream” (Katy Perry / Darren Criss) -- quite enjoyable and the remote setting helped him deal with his nerves.

6.  Sophia James - “Burning” (Maggie Rogers) -- she's really come into her own ever since Hawaii.  This was really sassy.

7.  Julia Gargano - “Human” (Christina Perri) -- started off a bit slow but she picked up enough steam by the end to get her past Arthur!

8.  Arthur Gunn - “Lovin Machine” (Wynonie Harris) -- this wasn't really my cup of tea, but it was good enough and I liked the set design.

9.  Louis Knight - “If the World Was Ending” (JP Saxe & Julia Michaels) -- nice recovery from Hawaii.  Especially since I feel it was good enough to get him in the Top10.

10.  Franklin Boone - “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (Tears for Fears) -- I thought this was his best performance but I'm not sure it was enough for him to move on.

11.  Dillon James - “Let It Be Me” (Ray LaMontagne) -- I put him behind Franklin mainly because I liked Franklin's performance more.

12.  Grace Leer - “Cry” (Faith Hill) -- she started off slow but improved by the end.  Alas, I think Dillon beat her in the end.

13.  Aliana Jester - “Run to You” (Whitney Houston) -- lovely performance but I have to dock points for taking on a Whitney Houston classic.

14.  Cyniah Elise - “Warrior” (Demi Lovato) -- better than Makayla and Olivia but not as good as Lauren, Kimmy or even Aliana.

15. Makayla Phillips - “Greedy” (Ariana Grande) -- fine enough performance but it just didn't really excite me.

16.  Faith Becnel - “River” (Bishop Briggs) -- her best performance to date but too little, too late.

17.  Jovin Webb - “With a Little Help From My Friends” (The Beatles / Joe Cocker) -- I love the background setting but the remote setting hurt his ability to deliver

18.  Olivia Ximines - “bad guy” (Billie Eilish) -- she performed it as well as she could but the remote setting really hurt her.  Pity, as she's my second favorite.

19.  DeWayne Crocker, Jr. - “I Got You (I Feel Good)” (James Brown) -- I enjoyed it but the judges were right that DeWayne was too smooth for this song.  Not good enough.

20.  Nick Merico - “Hey There Delilah” (Plain White Ts) -- pleasant enough and maybe his best vocal but nowhere near good enough to move on.
