Drawing a blank on other contestants who have solid followings on TikTok, but everything @TeamAudra has said so far about it being crucial to the modern music industry landscape means taking it seriously should be important to artists who want to succeed in the business. Blows my mind that some of the winners don’t even have a handle reserved for themselves even if they never use it - just being searchable there is a step in the right direction.

If I were in their shoes (not just winners), it would be a primary focus. Does anyone think Andrew Jannakos would have ever gotten a major record deal without TikTok? I highly doubt it, honestly. He deserves a lot of credit for finding a way.

Or, Jordan Smith. He could build a TikTok following easily with that voice if he wanted to. It would probably help him sell more music. I’m assuming he has professional management. If they haven’t suggested it to him, they should be fired. Perhaps they have, and he just doesn’t see the value in it.

I still think most of the ones on top are underutilizing it. I see Todd and Javier trying hard as of late. Some of them pick up followers very easily, but don’t really have a consistent strategy. Having said that, doing something is better than nothing at all.

Took a look at the OP, and while the top 2 in general with the most followers are pretty obvious, I was very impressed with Makenzie´s high numbers coming in 3rd. She must be quite active there. Congrats to her for that amount.

It probably drove some of the streaming traffic at minimum, if not the majority of it.

 

In any case, if you gave me a list of all the winners and their current ages & told me to rank them from most to least followers, I wouldn’t have pegged two 40-something guys to be towards the top of the list. If I were a contestant aiming to get on the show, I’d take that as further proof that the current TikTok algorithm seems to reward quantity activity over quality (though Javier and Todd happen to be capable of both, as evidenced by their recent big gains).

That’s a perfect example of how quickly the follower numbers can increase quickly. Being consistent is the hardest part. They might have to post 50x to get one that takes off. Not many seem to have that level of patience.

When I made this post, Melanie Martinez had 2.3 million followers. Now, she has 4.4 million. Remarkably, she’s gained those additional followers with only 11 posts. I’m not sure what people like about this, but good for her.

i think I mentioned this back when you first started this thread, but most of Melanie’s TikTok success has come from other posters using her songs in their TikToks. A certain percentage of those viewers end up following her too.

 

Her most streamed song (400k daily streams) is a song from her 2015 album and only available on the deluxe version. Someone made a TikTok about Timothee Chalamet and used the song. It became a viral meme and the rest is history.

Alexa's followers have grown to 284.3k, according to a screen shots her brother took a week apart she had 53.9k before the video went viral. The video itself has gotten 9.4 million views. Her brother also posted that she gained 53.7k followers on Spotify, the highest in the world for an unsigned artist for the week and the single has 65k pre-saves. Her daily streams doubled from what it was before hitting a high of 58.3k yesterday. It's interesting to see how TikTok hype can translate into new fans streaming the music.

The song featured in that viral video that has amassed 15 million views now is being released at midnight tonight. Also, Alexa just signed with Arista Records yesterday.
