They are a pop outfit, starting out as Abercrombie and Fitch dressed hipsters in the music biz. Shay got his start in Nappy Boy Entertainment in the late aughts, working with T-Pain and acting as a sentimental pop minor character across that hip hop label: It's hard not to see them getting all (and probably only) teen girls on their team. I also didn’t like how overly confident he would get about his team saying stuff like his team was the best team ever, he’s gonna win, multiple times per episode. Like lots of coaches would say this about their team, but I don’t remember even one saying it multiple times per episode after each team performance. For me it got to the point I had to stop paying attention to his comments. Oh also, I think he just looked very disinterested while on camera but that could just be me. Considering it was his first season as a coach, Chance didn't seem particularly excited to be on the show. I thought his body language and comments occasionally suggested he was bored or wasn't really paying attention. Meanwhile, Niall came across as happy to be there, engaged, funny, encouraging, and warm. But maybe their personalities are just different or Chance is less comfortable on camera. I think it was also because she didn’t really close that door. John and Chance are literally from the same genre, it does not make any sense that they are both there. Dan+Shay seem fine, but why would they be in the squad if there is Reba McEntire there?!
