*Chris Posted October 15, 2022 Share Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) A movie with a 34% score on Rotten Tomatoes making it this far while Academy Award winning / nominated movies have been eliminated? Appalling, but not very surprising considering some of the choices being made - the audience score of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes is also way too high as I think 34% is more accurate. But let's get to business and talk about the movie ; It was released in 2003 and it starred Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ginnifer Goodwin, Dominic West and Marcia Gay Harden - a very good cast. The movie follows Julia Roberts' character as she takes a position at a college to teach the history of art - now, you start to see why the movie was named Mona Lisa Smile, after one of the most recognizable and known painting in the world. In her class, she has mission that each student should be more than just a married women which does not sit well with one of her student, Kirsten Dunst's character, who is conservative - she writes for the college paper in which Julia's character gets attacked for advocating women to seek more than being wives. The movie goes on to follow the life of the other characters who have similar views as Kirsten's character or Julia Roberts' character. By the end, each one of the character found their true calling like this type of movie... Certainly not made for "moi", as I am sure the target audience was everyone's mom... The movie is somewhat all over the place with no clear direction - perhaps they wasted all their money on Julia Roberts' salary, who even gave a dull performance.
