LOL just to be clear for my bff Megan, my love for the ending of Hunger Games has to do with what happens with President Coin and not the epilogue which was admittedly vapid

Popular teen fiction series + having terrible epilogues. Name a more iconic duo.

A rather straightforward biopic, but well done. I feel the need to rewatch it as I'm more into N.W.A. now than I was then.

Kingsman: The Secret Service is one of my favorite movies. I went to see this in theaters on a whim, and it ended up being a very fun experience. The film is a love letter to the spy genre. It's over-the-top a lot of the times, but it's an awesome action/comedy film. The cast is strong, especially with Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and a breakthrough performance from Taron Egerton. The action sequences are really cool too. Kingsman: The Secret Service is a movie I could watch again and again, and I'd enjoy it every time.

Taron Egerton is hot

A really fun movie with the best church massacre scene until Midnight Mass. The crappy sequel kinda ruins it a bit for me, but I'm still able to separate the two enough to enjoy this.

Like my new favorite television show, Yellowjackets, Carol also features compulsive heterosexuality in order to hide queerness. Who is Steven if not just a male soccer coach version of Carol. The parallels are there. I would be WORRIED about spoilers but ALL OF YOU have garbage taste and won't watch Yellowjackets anyway except for our MAGNANIMOUS host @Alex95

Alex

Absolutely gorgeous and heartbreaking. I was worried this was gonna get left behind, but I'm glad it made it to the end. Easily one of the best movies of the year. That best picture oscar snub was so ugly

There were some good documentaries this year so it's nice to have one in the finals

Alex

I too am happy to see another documentary do well in this game. Docs about celebrities always me pause as they walk the line of being exploitative. Amy definitely toed the line a bit, but overall I found it to be rather respectful of the late, great Amy Winehouse may she rest in peace.

We should never hire another child actor again after Jacob Tremblay's performance in Room because no one will ever compare. The first half and the second half of the movie are two completely different films, but both are equally amazing. I love cinema!

Isolation causing a total breakdown of social norms leading to paranoia and murder all lead by a WOMAN? Wow is this Ex Machina or IS THIS MY NEW FAVORITE SHOW YELLOWJACKETS? Streaming on Showtime?????

Alex

Quote

I showed this to my friend last summer and then we got super drunk after because it f*cked him up so much. One of my favorite movie endings...ever? The random Oscar Isaac and Sonoya Mizuno is the best scene in cinematic history btw.

Rei

Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander??? how hot can a movie get?

Alex

I loooooove journalism movies sue me. Watching someone put the pieces of a puzzle together slowly and methodically and figure out the answers is more exciting than a car chase or some action movie.

Wow in my 2016 list I said Arrival was my favorite movie of the decade. WHAT LIES WERE TOLD. Because Mad Max is easily my favorite movie of the decade and potentially a contender for my favorite movie of all time.

Things Mad Max has in it:

1) Charlize Theron

2) Post-apocalypse

3) Subtextual queerness

4) 5'10 Courtney Eaton who is now SHINING in my new favorite television show Yellowjackets

5) Incredible cinematography with mind-blowing practical effects

6) A movie that has a title where a man might be the star and lead but SURPRISE it's actually women!!!!!!!!!

7) A banging soundtrack.

I could literally just go on and on but I will RESTRAIN myself.

Alex

Quote

When I was talking about some car chase in some action movie in my last writeup let the record reflect I was NOT talking about this movie, aka one of the greatest movies of all time. Probably the greatest action movie of all time. This is the reason why people still go to the movies. To see something this amazing.

Rei

Quote

One of the best action films ever

I was very close to tanking this because I had a feeling it would win, but I didn't at the last second. Obviously now I wish I had, but what's done is done. I figured a Disney/Pixar film was winning sooner or later. This movie is very great so I'm glad this is the one to pull it off.
