My latest thought is that her live slayage will be so undeniable that there’s no way the viewers will not send her to the finale. She’s going to have the best performance every week, and that’s all there is to it. The only question will be song choice, but that applies to all of them.

Yes song choice will be very important (as always) Blake will probably just let Wendy choose but I do hope he encourages her to do sing some country now that he knows she is part of The Time Jumpers. They are lucky to have Wendy  on the show no matter what she sings.

Ain't No Way is growing on me more and more. At the start I think I preferred Sisaundra's version but now I am starting to prefer Wendy's version.

That’s good to hear. I think Wendy did a good job of making the song feel fresh.

https://www.actionnews5.com/2021/10/26/wendy-moten-takes-knockout-round-the-voice

Memphis's own Wendy Moten delivered a powerful performance on "The Voice."

Wendy channeled the Queen of Soul and fellow Memphis native Aretha Franklin for her showdown in Monday night's Knockout Round.

After working with coach Blake Shelton and superstar mentor Ed Sheeran, Wendy went head-to-head with Jonathan Mouton belting out "Ain't No Way."

Wendy earned high praise from all four judges and will stay alive in the competition.

MJ Santilli's live blog:

Wendy is so beyond The Voice. But she's here, because her career never took off. And that's the way it is sometimes. She has an incredible instrument. Her performances are effortless, like singing is second nature to her.

Ariana says Wendy blew it out of the water. She'd have to give the Knockout to Wendy. John likes the subtleties and the big notes in Wendy's voice. All the judges have compliments for Jonathan. But Wendy is the clear winner. "I think you have to give it to Wendy," says Kelly. Wendy chokes up, as she thanks the coaches. Blake says Jonathan blew him away. But "the only problem... is that Wendy blew the building away." He expects to see her in the finale.

GoldDerby live blog:

Next Wendy takes the stage and easily belts out one of the hardest songs to sing in pop music history. Kelly looks like she's grinding her teeth and can barely even handle the vocals coming out of Wendy. All the coaches give her a standing ovation. It's no surprise that Blake chooses Wendy as the winner. He fully expects to see her in the finale.

Charlie Mason's TVLine recap:

After sharing what an inspiration Aretha Franklin was to her, Wendy blew away Ed so much with her practice run-through that his only suggestion was that she hold the mic rather than leave it in the stand. She was and is that good.

From the jump, she redefined control, building, building, building to a chorus that was so freaking powerful and perfect, it damn near squeezed tears out of my jaded old eyes. Simply staggering! Grade: A+

Lyndsey Parker's Yahoo Entertainment recap:

Meanwhile, Wendy's cover of Aretha Franklin's "Ain't No Way" was pure fire from the first verse, and she brought the heat throughout. So, of course, Wendy prevailed.

Maggie Fremont's ew.com recap:

Oh, buddy, Wendy Moten was already a lock for the live playoffs before she picked this tear-the-house down Aretha Franklin song so sorry, not sorry but Jonathan really had no chance here.

As Ariana Grande points out, Wendy doesn't toss the original out the window, but she does make this her own. She also asks Wendy to hold some meet-and-greet passes for her and Kelly when she goes on tour. She's a pro and she knows how to milk every note of this song to highlight her voice. Blake thought Jonathan really rose to the occasion here, but he also simply congratulates Wendy on finally getting her time to shine by being on this show. You know exactly which way this is going.

Jill O'Rourke on TalentRecap:

Wendy Moten Blows the Coaches Away Again on Team Blake

During Monday's show, Team Blake artist Wendy Moten continued to prove herself as a frontrunner in this season's competition.

The coaches were visibly amazed by Wendy's performance. Their jaws dropped and they stood up to cheer her on.

Unsurprisingly, Blake Shelton chose to keep Wendy on his team, meaning Jonathan was unfortunately eliminated.

Mark Franklin's idolchatteryd.com recap:

Jonathan opened a very strong performance a cappella, which did an excellent job of drawing listeners in. But it was forgotten by the time Wendy finished her vocal gymnastics. Blake said he expects to see her in the finale. If she keeps performing like that, it will be a well-deserved spot in the finale.

I love all these “press” recaps that you do - thanks! 🙂 I’m glad Wendy is getting all this praise for that performance. An A+ from Charlie is a pretty huge accomplishment too. 😮

I agree. I don’t see her not delivering each week. Her talent and skill is just undeniable. They really got the best of the best this season. I’m really excited for the lives!

She would probably like to do some country, so let’s hope she gets that opportunity. 🤞

IMO, the whole thing about last night was for Wendy to introduce the general population to her country music creds. And I'm convinced Blake already knew Wendy, maybe as more of an acquaintance, but he wasn't totally unaware of her existence. It doesn't matter, in the long run, whether they knew each other outside of the show. Wendy would flourish on anyone's team.

And it's a given that she deserves to win, because no one else has the power and the glory, amen amen 😇

However, I don't think that NOT winning would stop her from gaining traction in the industry.

I'd love to see her and LiBianca in the finals....

It’s all about those relationships. 🥺🤩

Okay but a Manny/Jonathan/Gymani/Wendy team up would legitimately be 🔥🔥🔥 since both women have more texture in their voices than the men (when usually people expect the opposite) and all of them can do pop/R&B work easily.

Now I wish performances where contestants got to bring back friends in the finale were still a thing because them as a quartet would be so good, ugh.

Wendy on 10/11/19:

Vince is the emperor of country music, and it means the world to me to be working closely with him and that he respects me as an artist. But I don't know about whether I'll pursue country music full-time. I feel more like I'm visiting it. I see myself as a Linda Ronstadt-type artist, who can visit a lot of different genres.

Wendy, also on 10/11/19:

I want people to know that dreams do come true — with hard work. I had my chance in the 90s, but I didn't know who I was then and couldn't even really appreciate it. But I continued to do the work, to work on myself, and I feel like I have been given a second chance.

Michael P. Coleman on 09/21/21:

If there was ever someone who deserved to be called "The Voice," it's Wendy Moten!

Wendy, about her debut album with EMI in 1992:

Because you know how record companies are. Whatever's hot, they want one. So everybody was looking for a Whitney Houston. Right? I was EMI's Whitney.

In the United States it's very complicated, because there's only one Whitney Houston, and you only need one Whitney Houston. But I'm a realist. I don't take it personal.

Wendy:

There is no competition. The competition is between you and yourself. There's only one Whitney Houston, and I was never going to be like her. There's only one Whitney and there's only one me. You're challenging yourself every day. You want to do great because "you" want to do great and you want to grow.

I would LOVE for her to sing that too! 🖤 That's actually one of the first songs on the suggestion list. It is definitely message-driven and one that will tug at the heartstrings.

I apparently need to do a better job reading 😂. I definitely would have loved  for Keisha to sing it if it had been out back then so I think Wendy would have a moment with it. I think it’s important that a black artist who likes to sing country too covers it for the real message of it.

I could see her closing the finale too. We have a long way to go though, so we'll just have to wait and see. :haha: We do have a lot of storytellers, but can they match Wendy's vocal ability? 🤔

I don’t think anyone in the competition (or in many past seasons) can match Wendy’s range or vocal ability but that might just be me 😅

I agree with that last point. She has showcased her undeniable talent to the nation. Who is going to pass up on that? 😅

Ugh yes, the slayage would be insane!!! 😭🤩

That would have been so cool, especially with this close cast.

Oh yeah, Keisha would have slayed that. Let’s hope we get to see Wendy do justice to it! ;)

It’s a fact. 👀

This might be her relation to genre in a nutshell.

Yeah, and the last three sentences of that quote probably explain why she didn't want to stay in the country lane on The Voice. I'm still hoping for at least one country performance during her run, though.

I'd be surprised if she doesn't do one.  Her album had an interesting take on country, including classics that weren't the usual suspects and also Ode to Billy Joe and Faithless Love, a Linda Ronstadt song written by J.D. Souther. I'd be really interested to see what she'd select and what she'd do with it.
