09. A Bug's Life (1998)
Me ranking all the remaining Pixar films at the top of my list? Damn right. :* They all deserved to make the final vote except for Cars, Cars 2 and Cars 3; don't @ me. That said, of the nine that did make the final vote, A Bug's Life is my least favourite, so I'm putting it here. It's obviously a well made movie given that it's Pixar, but considering I am not a bug person in the slightest, it always made me shudder watching it. :dead: I also think it didn't help that this movie was released the same time ANTZ was because most people probably got the general plot lines of them mixed up. I remember thinking they were the same movies a child for a while, oops..

A Bug's Life

I gave A Bug's Life a favorable ranking even though I prefer other films to it because I feel it is an underrated movie and doesn't get the love it deserves. I feel like this movie went under the radar in this rankdown and when it made the finals people were scratching their heads as to why. It's a good movie that is why and it's a non-threat to win tbh. I have found memories of watching this movie with my cousins and playing the dreadful video game of the film as well. :dead: They really should make a part two to this movie and for the longest time I though they had until someone pointed out I was giving the plot for the movie Antz. :stealth:

A Bug's Life is a 1998 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It's the second Pixar film released after Toy Story. The film was directed by John Lasseter and co-directed and written by Andrew Stanton. The film tells the story of an ant named. Flik. Flik is an inventor who is looking for "tough warriors" to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers. He ends up recruiting a group of bugs that turn out to be an inept circus troupe. The film stars the voices of Kevin Spacey (yuck), Dave Foley and Alex's favorite so he better have given it a high ranking, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. :* The film is inspired by Aesop's fable The Ant and the Grasshopper. Like I said, the film follows Flick who lives on Ant Island which is a colony led by the Queen and her daughter, Princess Atta. Every season the ants are forced to give food to the grasshoppers who are led by Hopper. Tired of being taken advantage of Flik suggests that they seek help from strong bugs. The colony who are not very fond of Flik because he ruins everything use this as an opportunity to remove him and send him off on this mission himself. Flick finds a troupe of circus bugs (Heimlich, Slim, Francis, Manny, Gypsy, Rosie, Dim and Tuck and Roll)who he thinks are warriors bugs. The circus bigs mistake him for a talent agent. They travel back to Ant Island and they both realize their misunderstandings. The circus bugs while trying to escape are attacked by a bird. They save Dot, Atta's younger sister, and gain the ants' respect in the process. They stay and Flik is inspired to get started on making a fake bird because Hopper is scared of them. The Flick + company create a false bird to scare the grasshoppers. They finish the bird but the circus troupes greedy ringmaster, P.T. Flea arrives searching for his them and inadvertently reveals their secret. Outraged by this news the ants exile Flik and are back to gathering food for the grasshoppers. Hopper returns and is not pleases with the measly offering. He overtakes the island and plans to assassinate the Queen. Dot goes after Flik and the circus bugs to inform them convincing them to return to Ant Island. After the Circus Bugs distract the grasshoppers long enough to rescue the Queen, Flik deploys the bird and it initially fools the grasshoppers, but P.T. Flea mistakes it for a real bird and burns it down. Hooper beats up Flik and gives Flick a speech on how ants are humble and lowly life forms who live to serve the grasshoppers. Flick responds that Hopper actually fears the colony because he has always known what they are capable of. He inspires the ants and the Circus Bugs to fight back against the grasshoppers who flee in terror except for Hopper. Hopper abducts Flik and the circus bugs fail to catch them, Atta rescues Flik. As Hopper pursues them, Flik lures him to a bird nest and thinking the bird is another decoy, Hopper taunts it before discovering that it's the real thing. He is captured by the bird who in turns feeds him to its chicks. The grasshoppers are gone and Flick has improved his inventions and the quality of life foe those on Ant Island. Flik and Atta become a couple and Atta and Dot respectively become the new queen and princess. The ants congratulate Flik as a hero and bid a fond farewell to the circus troupe.

Like most Pixar films they are not known for their songs so I'll post some my favorite scenes in this part. My favorite character are Dot, Francis and most especially, Heimlich. HE IS SO CUTE. I'll show a little love to mostly event though.

This interaction between Flik and Dot is too funny. :giggle: Flik using a rock as a seed as an analogy and Dot's all like "but's it's a rock!!!" :dead:

Here is a video with the circus bugs:

- Slim, a walking stick and Francis and Heimlich's friend.
- Heimlich, a plump, German-accented caterpillar who longs to be a butterfly.
- Francis, a short-tempered male ladybug who is constantly mistaken for a female.
- Manny, a praying mantis and magician in P.T. Flea's circus.
- Gypsy, a gypsy moth and Manny's beautiful wife and assistant.
- Rosie, a black widow spider and Dim's tamer and friend.
- Tuck and Roll, twin pillbug brothers from Hungary.
- Dim, a rhinoceros beetle that plays the "Ferocious Beast" in the circus act. He is Rosie's companion.

THE ANTS FINALLY RISE AND STAND UP TO THE GRASSHOPPERS.

The film was met with controversy because it was so simiar to the movie Antz. A Bug's Life won that battle so whatever. :* The film was released on November 25, 1998, and grossed $363 million dollars on a $120 million dollar budget. It received positive reviews from film critics, who commended the storyline, witty dialogue and voice-acting. It was the first film to be digitally transferred frame-by-frame and released to DVD. The film has a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and lastly from 2002 to 2018, A Bug's Land was a section of Disney California Adventure that was inspired by the film. I loved going there. They should make a sequel to this film and if someone says differently just know that Monsters Inc. got a prequel no one asked for so anything is possible. :*

WALLACE
A Bug's Life (1998)
I feel like A Bug's Life is my little underdog film that I saved a couple of times, I think 2 or 3 times, and am pleasantly surprised and happy that it has made the finals. A part of me would absolutely love to rank it at #1 for that but lmao no I’m being extra there. I would love to give it a spot in my Top 10 but sadly am more passionate about the films I have ranked higher, so I am going to give it a #12 ranking. I feel like I will rank this film higher than everyone else since I always saved it but if I’m proven wrong, I wouldn’t mind that.

A Bug's Life is a Pixar film released on November 25, 1998 and has grossed $363.3 million in the box office. It features voiceovers from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Dave Foley and Kevin Spacey. A Bug's Life was a film I do remember watching and really enjoying and finding it very cute. The subject matter of the film is about Filk, who is viewed as a misfit ant, who is hoping and wanting to gather up a group of “tough warriors” to save his area and homeland, to say from the greedy grasshoppers, who are bigger and badder than the ants and to take over. Sadly Filk, was only able to get together a group of bugs that are quite useless and inept to really help achieve his goal.

Here is a trailer of the film.

Inspired by The Ant and the Grasshopper, “A Bug’s Life” was released in 1998 - this is a movie that I remember enjoying as a kid. And that’s pretty much what I remember about it, beside having Hayden Panetierre and Julia Louis Dreyfus has voice over. In terms of ranking, this movie should have been way lower on my ranking but as I decided to play a more strategic, it lands here. It also managed to sneak into the Top 30 when it’s clearly not a fan favourite or anything so it would be kind of ironic if it gets a decent placement.

A Bug's Life

IPB ImageIPB Image

I didn't have much interest in A Bug's Life growing up, probably because bugs give me the creeps. :bye2: However, I faced my fears and finally got around to watching this one and did enjoy it well enough!

The plot centers around an ant named Flik, who sets off on a journey to recruit warrior bugs to help save the ant colony. Each year, the ants give an offering of their food to a group of evil grasshoppers, but Flik accidentally knocks it all down. The ants now owe the grasshoppers twice as much, and it's up to Flik to make things right. On his search for warrior bugs, he ends up unknowingly gathering up a group of circus performers. Although there is a huge misunderstanding, the circus bugs play the part of warriors and help Flik to defeat the grasshoppers. Flik is welcomed back into his ant colony, like he should have been all along because we all make mistakes and our intentions are what matter. (!)

Overall, I think this is a pretty creative and well done movie. My favorite things are the character of Dot, the baby ant voiced by Hayden Panettiere, and Heimlich, the German caterpillar with dreams of becoming a butterfly.

IPB Image

Flik is pretty lovable as well. I just felt so bad for him knocking over the offering. And look how cute he is with that contraption on his back in the first two gifs! :bye2: Anyway, I'm on good terms with this movie now, but I do still prefer most of the rest of the Top 30.

Alex
A Bug’s Life - Deserved a rewatch from me :broken:. I loved this movie and ranked it high but can’t really remember why lolwhoops. Trust me when I say it’s super underrated though. I don’t have the receipts just yet, but maybe I’ll do a drunk watch of this movie in the thread one day like I did with The Princess Diaries 2 and The Big Green..
