Thank goodness this was nominated for awards because I fear it might not have blipped on my radar otherwise. And because of award shows I know how to pronounce the actress's name haha

Great

Alex

Visually this is one of the most stunning movies I've ever seen in my life. Plotwise I didn't love it, but I don't mind it.

Sad but amazing

Any dementia or alzheimer's related movies will automatically break me. That's just a fact. Which reminds me This Is Us is on tonight and I still haven't emotionally recovered from last week.

Derek

Quote

Unfortunately, I haven't seen this. Mrs. Lenzen generally refuses to watch anything featuring sad elderly people and I never got around to it myself

white washed movie but I really enjoyed it

Very tense and exciting, amazing performances from Watts & Holland, horrible white-washed casting though, never should've happened.

I'm pleasantly surprised Chronicle made it to the Top 15. This is one of my favorite movies of the year. The found-footage genre is done really well here, and it's not a typical superhero origin movie either. Three teenagers get telekinetic powers. Instead of becoming heroes, they have fun with their powers before events take a dark turn. It's just a cool and entertaining movie.

Alex

Quote

Very average.

Rei

The only film I haven't watched from this group hence the last place ranking

One of my favorite endings in movie history. The first hour and 45 mins is good. The kid is in How I Met Your Father now and the best and hottest character so good for him.

Derek

This would have made a beautiful animated movie. Why bother to make this "live action" when 95% is computer generated anyway?

Such a masterpiece. Joaquin, Amy, and especially PSH invented acting in this movie. I'm glad it keeps succeeding in this game despite the fact that it's rather polarizing here.

I watched this for the films of 2010s rankdown, and I didn't like it at all. Other than good acting performances, the movie was just a whole bunch of nothing. I thought it was pointless and a waste of time.

Brave isn't one of my favorite Pixar movies, but I still like it well enough. It's a solid film, but it's not at the same level as some of Pixar's best (such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Coco).

Alex

Quote

Very much on the lower end of Pixar films for me. Not a terrible movie, but not one I really care to revisit.

Rei

Quote

I would have cut this given the choice

Derek

This is two movies into one. Maybe the least good of the non-Cars Pixar movies? But still Pixar, so still good enough.

Daniel Day Lewis was great

Derek

The definition of Oscar-bait. Also, 150 minutes y'all. But when an actor is this good he can almost carry the whole thing. Almost.

This is another great film. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat even though you know how it's going to end. Jessica Chastain was terrific in her role too.

Derek

Quote

something about desert war films make me instantly lose interest

Alex

Quote

The girlbossing of war crimes and torture 💅. I get what they were going for (or at least I hope they were going for more of anti-stance), but it was very poorly executed. The characters weren't developed at all, they were just the personification of themes and reasonings. And the whole movie just left me with a pit in my stomach  and not in a way I was intrigued and wanted more. Just because I couldn't believe I sat through 2+ hours of that.

Hate Affleck but this movie was amazing

Derek

Quote

Ben casting himself as the lead is a little cringe but Tony Mendez liked the movie and said he doesn't identify as hispanic, so there you go. I liked that this wasn't super serious the whole time

Steven

Quote

Argo is a great film. I haven't seen this movie since it was released in theaters, but I remember being impressed with it and thought it was deserving of its Best Picture Oscar win.

Alex

Quote

One of the most historically inaccurate movies I have ever seen in my life, they should've just made their own fictional movie instead lmao. Having said that, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on the edge of my f*cking seat during that plane chase scene.

Silver Linings Playbook is one of my favorite movies. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper both give incredible performances in this film, but the entire cast is great. I'm glad Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for this film. Bradley Cooper was very deserving of his Oscar nomination too, but no one was beating Daniel Day-Lewis that year. The script is great too, and the film tackles mental illness respectfully while also delivering a charming and enjoyable film. Silver Linings Playbook is a movie I could watch over and over again and still enjoy.

Alex

Quote

I almost wished I tanked this because it does not deserve to be our lowest scoring film, even lower than Parasite :kissbye:. I think this speaks more to how weak 2012 is than how amazing of a movie this is. Obviously I ranked it number one because I love it a lot, but it wouldn't even be in my top 20 of the decade.

Derek

Quote

I liked this movie. It's not one that is an all-time favorite, but I enjoyed it and thought it was a charming mix of Oscar-bait and regular romantic comedy.

Rei

Quote

Best from J-Law and Bradley Cooper
