whew, thank goodness we got one camp action film in the finals

There were a few petty rankings I wanted to make, but the second I watched this film I knew I had to rank it last. Genuinely one of my least favorite movies I have ever seen so thanks this game for introducing it to me! Nicolas Cage and John Travolta have never been more annoying! The dialogue was laughably terrible. The entire premise felt like a fever dream. I actually disagree with Derek calling it camp, I wish it was camp. It took itself soooooo seriously! Hate!

Happy Together isn't last place :spaz: well_hello_lets_celebrate_that.gif. Happy Together is a masterpiece. Wong Kar-wai is obviously a genius and an icon of Hong Kong cinema. While In the Mood for Love is very fairly known as his masterpiece, I of course am partial to Happy Together, the gay one. There are so many ways to interpret this film? Is it a tragic love story where the timing just never worked out (though if you interpret it that way I'll lowkey judge you lol)? Is it about a hero escaping an abusive relationship? Or are we led to believe that because he's the protagonist, and the story is told through his eyes, maybe he’s the more toxic one, and he's learned absolutely no lessons and now he's on his way to spread more toxicity? The movie is so daring and so dangerous. Yet I was invested and I found myself rooting for Fai, partly thanks to the flawless performance of Tony Leung (who you may know of as the antagonist of Shang Chi). And it's only 90 minutes!!!! Bring back 90 minute movies!!!!!!!!

While I ranked something else in first, I just knew it had a better chance at winning. This is my favorite movie of the year (probably top two with Happy Together so lmao this set <333333333). Anyways, Boogie Nights combines two of my favorite genres of film. Artist gets obsessed with their art which leads to their downfall (see also Black Swan & Whiplash). And the outcasts find family with each other genre. It just so happens that this all takes place in a 1970's and 80's life of an extravagant porn star. PTA is so hit or miss with me. His movies are very much about the vibes and the world building. With Inherent Vice I couldn't wait for the movie to end. With Boogie Nights, I wanted to stay in this world forever. Julianne Moore is devastating, Heather Graham is a scene stealer, Alfred Molina chews the scenery of his big scene, Burt Reynolds is such a reliable force in the film, and Mark Whalberg has never been better.

Uh-oh, not Alex's two favorite movies showing up in the first set. 🙈

Overall I'm okay with these rankings. Yay my Bottom 2 showing up first. I would have liked to see Boogie Nights rank a little higher but not heartbroken of it showing up now.

Magic Mike could nevah! A fun 90 minute male stripper film that addresses male custody, income inequality, fatness, homosexuality, etc. The scene of them dancing to Hot Stuff at the unemployment center lives rent free in my mind. Yes, they showed dick, I mean it is called The Full Monty, but I'll get over it.

I wanted to tank this movie harshly because of Elliott cutting Selena. 🙂 But I didn't want to rank this too low and below movies I hadn't seen a few times. I did really like this movie and thought it was a lot of fun when I was younger. I know it's far from the best or critically acclaimed movie but it's mindless fun and was enjoyable.

No. Just no. I can't believe Jackie Brown fell and this advanced 😭

my best friend in elementary school made me watch this with her multiple times and now we're both queer. COINCIDENCE?

Another decent set of rankings here.

I am kinda surprised but pleased Spice World made it to 10th as I thought it was gonna show up on the first set. :haha: I think I expected Tom and Alex to be the lowest rankers for that one but then that didn't happen. :dead:

I guess you didn't have to watch Gattaca in science class at school? I remember having to watch Gattaca twice in two different science classes. :haha:

Nope, but we did watch Finding Nemo three times in my physics class in highschool for some reason :dead:

Never watched Gattaca in science class either, just Armageddon. Only place where I watched Finding Nemo was in Spanish class, along with many other Disney movies. :haha:

Y'all stan every single generic 90's blockbuster yet you turn your noses up to the greatest romcom in film history. For shame! I love My Best Friend's Wedding. I think it is GENIUS. The deconstructed romcom. Take every single romcom trope and expose it for how actually creepy and dangerous it is. Julia Roberts is a star, Cameron Diaz doesn't know how to deliver a bad performance, Rupert Everett is a scene stealer, Dermot Mulroney is hot. The karaoke scene! I Say A Little Prayer! The final scene! What more could you want?!

The way my entire top five is out in the first eight eliminations and I was the highest ranker on all of them :dead:. Am I wrong on film this year or is everyone else...............I'm going with everyone else :giggle:. This is what you want out of a blockbuster! Witty dialogue, fun action scenes, a basic but creative plot! This is a turn your brain off and enjoy the movie kind of movie

Men in Black was a really fun and enjoyable film that I found entertaining to watch. I thought Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were a great duo and both are great in this film.

lowering this since I think it's a predictable winner

Generic Oscar bait elevated by a gorgeous performance from the late, great Robin Williams. The it's not your fault scene is definitely the highlight of the movie for me as I didn't really care for the characters much before then. I tanked it a bit fearing it would be a threat. But truthfully I would still only rank it around 8-9ish.

9. I love seeing Alex ranking a RomCom at #1... and actually higher than Diana.:giggle: Love his write-up on it too.

8. Oh wow, it's interesting how Men in Black have all of its rankings in the #5 through #10 spots. 😮 It's one of those well liked movies but not a huge favorite or huge disliked film amongst us. I would have liked to see this a little higher but glad it reached to this spot.

7. lol Derek calling Good Will Hunting a predictable winner yet it ranks at #7 here. :haha: But yay I was spot on with this ranking here. Fine with this ranking but still wish Men in Black ranked higher. But oh lol Alex tanked it a bit as well. This all works for me. :haha:
