Angeles Ranks the S19 Contestants (#36-40 Posted)

Angeles

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I was inspired by @Bk1234’s ranking and wanted to create one of my own to pass time!

Some Quick Notes

  • This is my personal opinion and all the artists are amazing in their own special ways
  • I am not copying @Bk1234 or @VintageVoice (I am using riddles for clues, though)

I’m releasing clues in groups of five and I hope everybody enjoys!

*The first set will be posted shortly

*The order of the clues isn’t necessarily the order of the rankings

  • Sometimes this contestant got nervous, but they’re only human
  • The name of one coach and the sound of another
  • This contestant’s future was in their hands
  • The battle partner of one of the contestants in this set
  • This contestant found themselves alone when it came to support from IDF and TPTB

1. Van Andrew

2. JusJon???

3. Chloe Hogan?? - because she sang “my future” but i don’t think that she will be ranked this low

4. Tori Miller

5. Peyton Lamar - she sang “never alone” for her blind audition iirc

This one is Aaron, with it referencing to his blind audition song. I’d like to believe that Chloé wouldn’t be this low, but who knows. 🤷‍♂️

Ohh I see, and this is better. I also change Lain to Tori.

Rankings

40. Van Andrew (Team Gwen)

TheVoice-S19-Artist-Bio-450x450-Van-Andr

Explanation: Kicking off my rankings is Team Gwen’s Van Andrew. He sang “Behind  Blue Eyes” by the Who for his blind audition. It started off a tad bit shaky but he managed to recover in the middle, unfortunately his performance took a downhill turn after Gwen and Blake pressed their buttons. Subsequently, his battle (which Tori should have won) and knockout were montaged, ending his run on the show. I didn’t mind him tonally, but he was extremely pitchy in the one round that we heard his full performance.

Hint: Sometimes this contestant got nervous, but they’re only human (This was a reference to Van’s knockout song - “Human” by The Killers)

Favorite Performance: Behind Blue Eyes (blind audition)

39. Jus Jon (Team Blake)

TheVoice-S19-Artist-Bio-450x450-Jus-John

Explanation: Following Van Andrew, we have Jus Jon. He auditioned with “Talk” by Khalid. I thought that the performance was nothing special, but knew that Blake would be able to help him improve. I preferred him in his battle over Payton, but still found his performance lacking (though that might be because of the song choice). During the knockouts, he faced Jim Ranger (not sure what Blake was thinking here).  Jus Jon had amazing stage presence, but his performance was pitchy. Jim Ranger was chosen to move on, thus eliminating Jus Jon. He had a good run on the show, and I wish him the best of luck in the future!

Hint: The name of one coach and the sound of another (Jus Jon shares a name with John Legend and was often compared to Usher)

Favorite Performance: Dancing with a Stranger (battle round)

38. Payton Lamar

TheVoice-S19-Artist-Bio-450x450-Payton-L

Explanation: Payton Lamar comes in right after her battle partner. Payton’s blind audition was a short-clipped performance of “Never Alone”. I personally think she did too many runs for it to be an enjoyable performance. In her battle, Payton faced Jus Jon. I found Payton’s tone to be a little too piercing and thought that she lost the meaning of the song. Looking at some of her pre-show covers, I didn’t notice this problem- which probably means she was nervous or she didn’t get the right song choices for her unique tone.

Hint: This contestant found themselves alone when it came to support from IDF and TPTB (A nod to her blind audition song. Payton also didn’t have many supporters on IDF).

Favorite Performance: Dancing with a Stranger (battle round)

37. Aaron Scott

TheVoice-S19-Artist-Bio-450x450-Aaron-Sc

Explanation: Team Blake is not doing too hot right now. Aaron sang “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” by Fuel for his blind audition. I thought that it was a great performance, so why is he so low? His resemblance to Chris Daughtry for one. I was constantly comparing the two making it harder for me to appreciate Aaron’s voice. Another reason Aaron is so low is because of his battle. I personally found it boring. Aaron’s personality didn’t really come through enough and he was overshadowed by Ian Flanagin. Had he made it to knockouts, Aaron would probably be much higher on this list.

Hint: This contestant’s future was in their hands (A subtle reference to Aaron’s blind audition song - “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” by Fuel)

Favorite Performance: Hemorrhage (In My Hands) [blind audition]

36. Tori Miller

TheVoice-S19-Artist-Bio-450x450-Tori-Mil

Explanation: Tori Miller finishes off this set. She auditioned with “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Krauss. I didn’t hate this performance (probably because I love the song), but Tori’s voice sounded shaky. I also really liked her lovely muted tone & style of singing. She faced Van Andrew in the battle and they sang “Exile” by Taylor Swift & Bon Iver. The battle was unfortunately montaged, though I preferred Tori from what I heard.  I wish she had gone further in the competition and I wish her best of luck in the near future.

Hint: The battle partner of one of contestants in this set (Tori faced Van Andrew in the battles)

Favorite Performance: When You Say Nothing At All (blind audition)

- Van Andrew [Sang some song about this in the blinds, honestly don't remember him oops]

- John Sullivan [Same name as John but the sound of Blake-ish]

- Chloe Hogan [She said "My Future"]

- Tori Miller / Lain Roy / JusJon / Jim Ranger [Picking tori b/c her run was cut short and she didn't have an exceptional blind]

- Payton Lamar [O-o-oh we're never alooooone (but you are, in terms of support!)]

*The order of the clues isn’t necessarily the order of the rankings

  • This contestant’s voice got dwarfed by their battle partner, despite the height difference
  • I still don’t really know this contestant
  • After the show, this contestant is as free as they’ll ever be
  • This contestant was blinded by their competition
  • This contestant unexpectedly got chosen over an IDF favorite
