Really, it's one of the best break-up albums, period. The lead single being called Gaslighter and being written about Natalie Maines’ ex-husband’s failure to get a court order that he had final approval of all of her songs? Truly the level of pettiness I aspire to be.

Deeee
ALANIS MORISSETTE RESULTS PART FOUR 12. That I Would Be Good (1998 prod. by Alanis Morissette, written by Alanis Morissette + Glen Ballard) Album: Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie US Billboard Adult Top 40 Tracks: #24 (Single) US Billboard 200: #1 Canadian Albums Chart: #2 United States Album Certification (RIAA): 2x Platinum Canadian Album Certification (Music Canada): 4x Platinum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/That_I_Would_Be_Good RANKINGS Dee: 11 Elliott: 17 Derek: 18 Megan: 8 Rei: 12 Tom: 13 Andy: 3Wally: 9 Victoria: 12 Chris: 10 Kaley: 17 Public: 12 Final Average = 11.833 COMMENTS Quote A beautiful song with a universal message of battling insecurities and hoping that love still finds you and accepts you for being a flawed human. One of my faves. On 7/16/2020 at 11:29 AM, Elliott said: Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie deserves more songs in the final vote! #JusticeForAreYouStillMad That I Would Be Good is a song I really enjoyed from this album (obviously), and the lyrics of yearning are really accentuated in her vocal performance! That said, if the complaint over SFIJ is that it's too long, this is one of the songs i would've been fine with cutting, so I'm ranking it here. On 7/15/2020 at 1:27 PM, .Rei said: The melody and lyrics of this song are stunning, a standout from SFIJ. 4.5/5 On 7/15/2020 at 9:08 PM, *Wallace said: This was really pretty and really grew on me as it progressed. A song that perfectly explains the intentions of sleazy men in power and how women are just sexual objects in their eyes. A voice for all the women with talent, with something to say, with creativity, with ideas, with a name, with humanity, that are simply not seen for who they are! A flawless track that really deserves this high ranking. On 7/16/2020 at 11:46 AM, Elliott said: Ugh, I love this song so much and hate that I can only put at #9. Right Through You, I feel, perhaps best showcases the absolute skill with this album in terms of combining mid-tempo, softer spoken lyrics with the heavy guitar riffs that you wouldn't expect. Queen of inventing a new type of alternative rock, tbh. On 7/15/2020 at 1:27 PM, .Rei said: I see right through you Love this. 4.2/5 On 7/15/2020 at 7:08 PM, ~Tom~ said: I tend to prefer Alanis' more melodic songs so this one fell toward the bottom of the list. LOL. The harmonica! The grunge guitars! The insane vocals! This song is proof of her lyrical genius! F*ck this song is so damn perfect and amazing. A song about the constrictive and frustrating natures of relationships where your partner is not fulfilling your soul and your intellect. The suffocating nature of being stuck with somebody that is simply superficial and shallow. UGH. So happy to see this song crack the Top 10. On 7/16/2020 at 11:46 AM, Elliott said: All I Really Want kicks off my top ten. I hated having to rank this song so low, but there's so many good songs in this ranking. Anyway, All I Really Want is one of the most iconic and recognizable opening tracks, showing us right away that Alanis didn’t come to play with her feelings. She said the song was inspired by the miserable time she had with MCA Records Canada, with one of the song’s verses (And all I need now is intellectual intercourse/A soul to dig the hole much deeper/And I have no concept of time other than it is flying/If only I could kill the killer) being directly pointed towards them. For most of the 90s, it was the opening song on her tours, which seems fitting all things considered. I'm also expecting Andy to be the one person who says more about this song than me since I think it's his favourite? On 7/15/2020 at 1:27 PM, .Rei said: I like it a lot. 4/5 On 7/15/2020 at 7:08 PM, ~Tom~ said: Much like Head Over Feet, intense but not her most melodic and not my favorite so here it lands. On 7/16/2020 at 12:57 AM, ~*8Kay8*~ said: This one falls pretty solidly in the middle for me. It’s one I always enjoy when it comes on, but not one I actively seek out like some of the others above it. Edited July 17, 2020 by Deeee
