From the movie Up (2009)

latest?cb%5Cu003d20120306075447

Voiced by Jordan Nagai (b. 2000)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Nagai

Jordan's only acting roles were Russell and one appearance on the Simpsons.

He hasn't acted in anything else. He's in college right now!

From Wiki: "Jordan's older brother Hunter originally auditioned for Russell in Up. Director Pete Docter has said, '[a]s soon as Jordan's voice came on we started smiling because he is appealing and innocent and cute and different from what I was initially thinking.' About four hundred children had shown up for the auditions, but Nagai stood out because he wouldn't stop talking the whole time. Nevertheless, he was sometimes very shy, and Docter found it difficult getting him to recite all of his lines."

I'm tempted to write "Wally go see Up" 100 times as my write-up.

Up is one of my favorite movies of all time. Kevin from Up was my representative character for this game. Up is also just an objectively good film, animated or not. As I've mentioned before, it's one of only 3 animated films to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards (not that the Oscars matter, blah blah)

But this is about Russell. I love Russell and Carl equally for different reasons, so as long as either one of them made the Top 25, they were going to be super high on my list. Russell is this eternally optimistic character, so funny, so naive, so charming, so lovable. I think part of it had to do with the great voice acting performance, which, as seen above, was largely due to the amazing direction by Pete Docter. It was just such an honest portrayal of a kid. And the relationships that Russell made in the movie, both with Carl and with Kevin and all the others, are what made the movie so good. Carl vs. Russell is such a smart dynamic and while we've seen "young character interacts with old character" many times in many movies, this one seemed so fresh and engaging. And as the movie goes along we start to see some of the background and insecurities of Russell and it just makes you want to give him a hug and tell him it will be okay.

Wally go see Up.

I feel like I will be responsible for his highest ranking. No shame in that since I absolutely adore this Senior Wilderness Explorer!

Russell is infectiously cute. He is anxious, high-strung, hyperactive, curious, fun-loving, brave, adventurous, and helpful. He really wants his "Assisting the Elderly" Wilderness Patch. He just wants to help Carl cross the street or something. The result is an epic adventure between the unlikely duo that shows there is far more to Russell than being this little obnoxious child.

Russell is bravery and selflessness personified. He does not hesitate to befriend Kevin and help her search for her eggs. he does not hesitate to save Kevin and Carl from Muntz either. He defeats all of the Dog Fighters. Russell manages to help save the day. He faces his fears head-on, never stops to question what the right thing to do is, and always acts selflessly.

His character is straightforward, but it's the way in which his curious, adventurous, fighting spirit reminds Carl of Ellie that just makes me fall in love with Russell. The way he yearns for a companion like his father that he clearly does not get to see much after the suggested splitting of his parents.

He even drops gems like this on us that show this kid is so wise:

"Sometimes, it's the boring stuff I remember the most."

I love Russell so much. Up is a fantastic film because of his character, and not the other way around. Gotta love that he is Eastern Asian as well. Just makes the deal even sweeter. I do not expect him to do well, but I am just so glad to see him here in the finals.

I love Up. I love Russell who is adorable. My sister and I tried to get our chubby little brother to dress up as Russell for Halloween for like 3 years and he never did! As an adult he probably regrets that now. He tried too hard to be cool when he was the ages of 11-13. As a chubby Asian kid he would have been a perfect Russell. Anyway, Russell is fantastic. Love his curiosity, his love for adventure. As a chubby kid, Russell is the most relatable Disney/Pixar hero. He gets tired walking all around the forest. He can't climb. And yet, so full of energy and vigor at the same time. Love it. Anyway, just thinking about Up is making me teary-eyed so I can't write that much longer but I love the relationship he builds with Carl. It's one of the reasons why Up is just such an outstanding movie.

Russell is another character I'm surprised made the finals tbh. I love the movie Up but love the characters scream iconic to me. I though people like Russell more than Carl Fredricksen so that was my bad. Russell is the deuteragonist of Disney/Pixar's Up. He is Junior Wilderness Explorer who accompanies Carl Fredricksen (unwillingly) to Paradise Falls when Carl ties his house up to a bunch of balloons. Russell is adorable throughout the movie  and he and Carl met a dog named Dug and a bird named Kevin. At the end of Up, Russell gets his "Assisting the Elderly" Wilderness Merit Badge which is presented by Carl Fredricksen which is a soda can cap from Ellie. That was a cute moment from the film that I always remember.

I absolutely love "Up" and I believe it's one of the best Pixar movie outside of the Toy Story series. But with that being said, I never got attached to any characters in the movie hence why Russell find himself here on my ranking, on the lower end of things.

Ugh I wish it was Carl here. I relate to Carl. He's a grumpy old man, and I'm a grumpy old man at the ripe age of 25. I've targeted a lot of Disney kids throughout this rankdown and it's because kids in Disney movies annoy me. Sorry they just do. Up is one of my favorite Disney movies of all-time. So while Russell should annoy me, he gets let off the hook a little bit. He could've been a lot worse. In fact, I found myself shockingly liking him at the end of the movie. I guess it's because I relate to Carl so much lol. First he was annoying, then I realized I liked him and I don't know how that happened, but I'm not complaining.

Should be Carl tf? Still, a pretty good and compelling character in Up

Russell may not necessarily be my first choice to represent Up, but he's certainly not a bad one either. He is one of the lead characters and is super lovable, as many of them are in that movie.  He's just an innocent kid who gets taken along on the journey of a LIFETIME without even meaning to. What a wild ride for little Russell, wow. heart.gif.c504acb42b19a5dcec1a32eb64b25cb0.gif The contrast between him and Carl is so great and fun to witness. Russell is definitely a bit talkative and curious, differing a lot from Carl, but he reminds him of Ellie. :broken: We get to view the story through different eyes and perspectives from these opposite characters, and Russell helps us see the fun and adventure in everything. He is friendly, adventurous, and an all-round lovable kid. heart.gif.c504acb42b19a5dcec1a32eb64b25cb0.gif

Russell is an adorable character, but I'm still sad it wound up being him and not Carl to make it to the finals. So here he ends up.
