15. Amanda Swafford
Amanda is one of my favorite archetypes in reality show history. She’s like Charla on The Amazing Race or Christy in Survivor: Amazon. The disabled woman who is cast for her disability, but can’t get the inspirational edit because they’re a stealth bitch :wub:. Amanda is that stealth bitch!
Amanda is going blind during her time on ANTM. In the first episode she doesn’t even bother to pull a Mercedes and hold onto this secret for half a season. As the first group of semifinalists get cut and they’re all sobbing, Miss Amanda decides to take it upon herself to gather everyone and steal the spotlight by revealing her secret :wub:. An iconic start to an iconic season! At this point it seems Amanda will be our heroine of the season. Inspirationally fighting her disability as she produces stunning photos and acts as mama bear to everyone in the house. In her first act of being mama bear she will……..leak Cassie’s bulimia approximately 30 minutes after learning her secret :dead:. HUH?! Look this was really f*cked up of Amanda to do and I don’t want to make light of the situation. That was Cassie’s secret and it was Cassie’s decision who should know though she did admit it on a reality show with thousands of people watching. As Amanda got her makeover, one of the most iconic in ANTM history, she also started being ugly and I was LIVING watching this queen turn into a villain.
Next we get #CrystalGate which is one of my all-time favorite ANTM moments. Amanda is forced to do a runway in the dark because ANTM is the funniest f*cking show in the world. Amanda freaks out, but thanks to all the glitter she’s able to see :haha:. She casually mentions this to Miss J later about her disability and everyone’s all :rolleyes: because they’re not about to let Amanda get any special treatment (<3). Amanda threatens to beat the sh*t out of Eva (inspirational hero :wub:) and comes home to find her precious crystals missing. “I’M MISSING 100 DOLLARS AND MY LAUNDRY’S GONE BECAUSE OF A CERTAIN BITCH, CERTAIN BITCH, CERTAIN BITCH ^_^”. She sends her clique on a wild goose chase for her missing stuff. “What’s a 10 dollar bill to catch a bitch?! :*” On the search for her crystals, Amanda starts fighting Eva, and then Ann, and then Jennipher gets involved and we get the great Jen vs. Ann fight. Eva calls Amanda out on all her fake nice bullsh*t <3. She melts down over her missing crystals…….and then finds them because she hid them herself so no one stole them :dead:. She attempts to apologize to Eva in the most defensive way <3.
Amanda kinda dies off as a character after this though. Yaya rises to super villain territory and Amanda just kinda becomes her evil sidekick. We did get Amanda forgetting her shoes for the go-sees causing a mass shopping spree and then getting pissed when she took credit for the girls showing up late (cause she’s the one who forgot her shoes) and no one else getting in trouble <3.
Amanda’s a stunning girl and maybe(?) a great model. Tbh it could all just be the eyes lmao. I mean….look at those eyes. Her beauty shot, her purse shot, her trampoline shot. Such stunning pictures. Maybe it’s just the eyes, but I’m sure she’s a good model too. I’m glad she left in third place to give us the Eva & Yaya flawless final two we deserved. My favorite final two in ANTM history by a LONG shot. I wish Amanda remained a raging bitch the whole show so I could stan more. Nevertheless, I still enjoy her stealth bitch antics and she helped to make Cycle 3 the flawless season that it is.

Amanda would have been a deserving winner – my favourite during her season who would have been a wonderful winner, even though Eva is great as well.
With her piercing blue eyes, she always found a way to standout in every shoot from the Nivea shoot to roller skates to trampoline to tarantula photoshoot. In other words, Amanda has an excellent portfolio worthy enough for a Top 10 placement in this rankdown and potentially the win.

Amanda Swafford. A+ contestant. Stealth b*tch. Fake mother of the house. Real snitch. Drama Queen. Whether she was bumping people in hallways, accusing them of theft, setting traps to catch proposed thieves, misplacing her own supposed stolen items and forgetting, or telling the entire house about Cassie's eating disorder, Amanda always found a way to paint herself in the worst light imaginable. But that is exactly why I love her! :dead:

Amanda entered the competition presenting the false persona of a saintly mother, hiding behind being an actual mother and the most insane icy blue eyes. Amanda also entered the competition hiding a pretty serious secret from the other women of the competition - a diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa. This disorder causes progressive vision loss, with symptoms including peripheral vision loss, difficult with nighttime vision, and tunnel vision. Amanda revealed that her disease had progressed enough to cause her to become legally blind. Amanda's most striking feature, her eyes, happened to be the same body parts working against her. The story was compelling and moving, even if her season came directly after Season 2, where Mercedes took us on an emotional rollercoaster due to her lupus diagnosis.

Amanda really seemed like the eventual sweetheart of the season. Tragic medical diagnosis, motherly qualities, tender voice. But all of that quickly went to hell when Amanda revealed her true personality only three weeks into the competition. Amanda survived the first elimination, but her first photo is ultimately forgettable. That first week though, Amanda comforted Kelle after she felt beat up by the other women in the house. Amanda really seemed to be an angel. But that would soon change. The following week is when Amanda received the most iconic makeover in Top Model history. YUP. I said it. Maybe other makeovers have been more drastic, but Amanda received what is most certainly the best makeover in the show's history. On the receiving end of the very first of many icy, bleach blonde makeovers, Amanda literally transformed into a supermodel after she left that salon chair.

Things really looked up for Amanda, who I was convinced would both dominate the competition and be the most congenial contestant of the season. Except everything changed after that makeover. During the Nivea photoshoot, Cassie revealed to Amanda that she is struggling with bulimia, which most of the house had been secretly speculating. You would think Amanda would keep the secret close, since her status as a "mother" really convinced everybody that Amanda was a certain person. Except Amanda immediately did a #RUNTELLDAT and the entire house knew about her disorder within minutes. That is when I knew - Amanda is a stealthy villain icon that the third season desperately needed! :dead:

Amanda then produces what could be considered the greatest picture in Top Model history. Remember when they showed the non-retouched photo and her skin looked EXACTLY the same as the retouched photo? ICONIC. That photo still slays to this very day. Easily one of the best photos ever. To this very day. A photo that is justification enough to push her into the finals of this Rankdown. This photo rightfully earned her a first call-out. Except Amanda is so much more than one of the original lite contestants, as she continues to provide A+ drama while hiding behind this fake nice facade. UGH. Queen.

Amanda would further reveal herself to the house the following week, starting with the Heatherette runway show. The show took place in a dimly lit club, which caused Amanda to worry about her nighttime vision and being able to manage the runway. Amanda did fine during the runway show, using the glitter o the runway to help guide her through to the end. After the show, Amanda "accidentally" told Mrs. Jay about her condition in front of the other women, which led them to believe Amanda was fishing for a compliment. SHE TOTALLY WAS. :dead:

Back at the house, Amanda said that she was missing clothes and $100. Since Eva last distributed the laundry, Amanda placed the blame on her. In reality, Eva's loudness made her the scapegoat for a ton of mistreatment. Amanda was just one of the many to engage in that mistreatment. Before accusing Eva outright of theft, Amanda concocts a trap to lure out the thief. LOL. She essentially places a $10 bill on her nightstand next to some rings, and Nicole wrote on the dollar bill so that the thief could be tracked. In doing so, she delivered the iconic line:

"WHAT'S TEN DOLLARS TO CATCH A BITCH?"

The only thing Amanda was truly concerned about losing happened to be her crystals. So, Amanda hid her crystals when devising her trap, for safe keeping. Except Amanda forgot that she hid her crystals. :dead:

The next morning, Amanda goes on a witch-hunt in an attempt to point fingers at Eva for stealing her crystals. Amanda starts giving Eva attitude, bumps her without saying excuse me, and then gets into a fight with Eva. Iconic ANTM moment. Maybe my favorite episode of the show ever TBH. Amanda then spirals into a breakdown after minimizing to other women the bump she shared with Eva:

"MY MONEY CAN BE GONE BUT YOU DON'T TAKE MY CRYSTALS. THE THING THAT MEANS THE MOST TO ME. THE THING THAT GIVES ME STRENGTH AND TAKES AWAY MY NEGATIVITY."

Iconic moment is only made more iconic by Amanda calmly and nonchalantly revealing later that evening that she had found her crystals. LOL. Amanda literally laughs off misplacing them and accusing Eva of theft, then gives her a very half-assed apology. In one episode, Amanda completely reversed the perception of her. Glorious television ANTM Cycle 3 was. Amanda produces an okay photo during the Lee Jeans group photo. But Amanda snaps back into the first call-out position the following week after producing an iconic Dooney & Burker rollerblade photo. The group continued to figure out and clock Amanda as a snake during #BrownieGate. Cassie quickly realizes that Amanda is the only person that could have possibly told the entire house about her disorder. Amanda sort of devilishly chuckles when she realizes the chaos that she has caused - all while avoiding the fire. HER STEALTH BITCHINESS WILL FOREVER BE ICONIC. :wub:

Then she produces that glorious YJ Stinger Energy Drink photo that earns her a second call-out. Three incredible photos before the halfway point of the competition + tons of iconic drama? Your boring faves could never. :*

Eventually, the news of Cassie's eating disorder travels to Tyra, which leads to the Tyra attempt at intervention, which leads to the iconic, yet tragic sit-down moments with Toccara and Cassie. All thanks to Amanda. <3

At this point in the competition though, Amanda becomes sort of invisible in the competition and drastically drops in the quality of her pictures. Neither of her alter-ego or tarantula photos are bad. Just not the same caliber as the last four photos she produced in the competition. Though there is the very underrated and forgotten moment where Amanda forgets her shoes during go-sees and drags some of the women with her to buy new shoes, causing all of them to arrive back late at the agency. Then there is the horrible Campbell's Soup commercial in Japanese, where everybody did horribly. Even during the gang-up against Eva in Tokyo, Amanda sort of took a backseat as a participant. I think she probably learned her lesson during the first half of the competition and decided to calm down significantly.

But Amanda would return to form during her final three weeks of the competition - earning two consecutive first call-outs for her amazing kimono and anime-fashion on motorcycle photos. While one of those first call-outs is questionable, since Eva and Norelle produced more interesting kimono photos, both pictures are stellar. But also hella inappropriate and ignorant. Stellar nonetheless. Amanda entered the finals with a record four first call-outs, a stellar portfolio, pretty good performances in panel + challenges, and a calmed down attitude. I really thought Amanda had a decent shot at winning the title. Inarguably, Amanda/Eva/Yaya are the greatest top three in the history of the show, so it is only fitting that all three made the finals of this Rankdown! If only Ann M. could have been here to complete the sextet of Cycle 3 icons! Anyways.

Amanda produced a gorgeous CoverGirl photo, as did her two competitors, leading to what was one of the most difficult deliberations in the history of the show. Ultimately, Amanda was sent home for lacking the vibrant personality and commercial ability of Eva. While the right decision in retrospect, Amanda's elimination gutted my younger self. Her striking model features really appealed to my younger self, and you could see how much she wanted to win after being eliminated. The collective heartbreak in that panel room really showed how highly everybody thought of her. With age though, I have come to appreciate Amanda far more for her dastardly ways than her modeling abilities. Those dastardly ways caused some of the most iconic moments in the show's history, and really helped cement Cycle 3 as one of the greatest seasons of reality television ever. That is why Amanda is receiving a high ranking from me. A true legend. You're welcome, Victoria. :*

I feel like Amanda went through this game pretty quietly and sneakily... I think she was maybe nominated once? I honestly don't know how most of the rankers feel about her since she was never talked about (that I saw or remember). Anyway, I do like her, but she's not a particular favorite of mine. Sometimes I enjoyed her personality more than other times, but I do remember her being quite nice and befriending some of the other models when they most needed it. I also remember her being involved in some of the drama, including blaming Eva for stealing her crystals, when she actually hid them herself so nobody would take them. :giggle: But she did apologize. I could be wrong, but I think she also told other people about Cassie's eating disorder after she confided in her, which I don't really think was her place. But anyway - Amanda has a great model look and face, and delivered some strong photos. :yes: Her beauty shot is particularly memorable to me, and I think the spider one was as well.... but I can't really look at that one. :shiver: Amanda revealed on the show that she was legally blind, which is so sad, but her eyes are absolutely beautiful. She said she would go completely blind within about five years from the show, so I wonder how she's doing now. :(

A lot of people here seem to love Amanda to death. While I think she is definitely one of the most talented models to be on the show, I don’t love her the way a lot of users here seem to, so I hope she doesn’t end up too high.

Amanda’s personality from what I remember was a bit “woo-woo” and somewhat cocky. Like Melrose (who may or may not have shown up yet), I think one of my issues with her is that we didn’t really get to see much of a “human” or vulnerable side to her personality. She definitely had some memorable moments, but nothing about her personality on the show really resonated with me.

Amanda’s portfolio was fantastic, no doubt. She took some incredible pictures and generally performed well every week. I don’t think I would have crowned her my winner since I feel like Eva checked more boxed beyond just her portfolio, but you could definitely make a case for why Amanda deserved the win.

As I highlighted before, I think Amanda was a strong model and a memorable character, but I’ve never really felt much connection to her, so this is where she places for me.

Aww I really like Amanda and find her to be quite the sweetheart, a great/likable person and a really strong model. She definitely has all of the makings of a beloved and memorable contestant. I am ranking her here at 12th, as I prefer 11 other models more over her - that and hopefully this lower ranking can help make for an Eva and Yaya Final 2. Amanda had quite an emotional backstory as she was legally blind and could be on her way of being fully blind which was just so sad. :( But I love how Amanda didn’t let that affect her modeling, and she proved to be quite a strong model with a number of standout photos.

Wow I went through her portfolio and nearly posted all of her photos, omg. :dead: I knew she was a great model but didn’t realize how amazing her portfolio is. But definitely amazing photos for Amanda. I believe she was only nominated once in this game, so I expect her to get a high ranking she deserves so best of luck to Amanda there.
