HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS (2004)

MV5BMWYzM2JmOWItN2IxZC00MmFjLWEyMTQtYTQ2ODBiNjRlYmZlXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNzI1NzMxNzM@._V1_.jpg

House of Flying Daggers is a wuxia (martial heroes) romance film. Set during the Tang Dynasty, there is a secret organization known as The House of Flying Daggers, which opposes the corrupt government that oppresses its people. They get their name from the throwing daggers they use to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Two police officers named Leo and Jin are ordered to kill the leader within ten days. They come up with a plot to gain their trust. They first arrest a young woman named Mei whom they believe is the daughter of the previous leader of the House of Flying Daggers. Afterwards, Jin will break her free from jail and pretend to be a rebel sympathizer to gain her trust. While he travels with her to the headquarters of the House of Flying Daggers, Leo will follow behind with reinforcements. However, matters become complicated after Mei and Jin fall in love. As for what the critics thought, The House of Flying Daggers has an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus reads: "the visual splendor of the movie makes up for the weak story."

If I am being honest, there's a good amount of films that I haven't seen remaining and therefore, I am more likely to nominate them over the ones that I've yet to see. And this was the case for Hero, a 2002 film that was directed and produced by Zhang Yimou. The film focuses on the Warring States Period in ancient China - this was a time where China was divided into 7 states, and there was an assassination attempt on the King of Qin...  At the time of its release, the film was seen as one of the most expensive film to have been produced in China as well as one of China's highest-grossing film.  The film was nominated at the Academy Award despite never being released in the US - it was actually released 2 years later due to Quentin Tarantino convincing Miramax to open the film in theatres in the US.  As a whole, the film received positive reviews but personally, reading the plot, I am unsure that it would be a film that would interest me although the cinematography impresses me from the trailer that I watched

Inspired by the Roald Dahl's novel of the same name, Fantastic Mr. Fox was released in 2009 after the project began as a collaboration between Wes Anderson - the director - and Henry Selick. This animated movie - a stop motion at that - features a diverse cast of actors doing the voice over including George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Williem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, Brian Cox, Adrien Brody, and Mr. Wes Anderson himself.  The story revolves around a fox and his family & friends ; They don't have the nicest human neighbours who have as mission to kill him. He eventually manages to escape, and meet other animals that they become friends with... But that doesn't end there as Mr. Fox will need to find a new place to live, and while he's looking to find a new place, he is met with many challenges. Anyway, this movie was well-received but personally, I've only watched it once and I particularly didn't care for it as I am not the biggest fan of stop-motion animated film & the film didn't really represent nostalgia for me as I wasn't familiar with the book prior to the film.

Cycle 25 - The Final Purge

tumblr_pz1s9laOAt1sb2hm8o2_r1_540.gif

We started the game with a purge, might as well do one at the end to. I always like even numbers and I want to get us to a nice, even 100 films left. This purge will have three parts to it.

Part 1: The Save - When it's your turn, you will save 8 films from the game to be immune from the purge. We'll go in a random order and you'll do this twice to save a total of 16 films. You will have 16 hours to make your saves or the randomizer will make them for you. At the end of this portion of the purge, 96 films will be saved.

Part 2: The Cut - From the eleven remaining films, you will each cut one film of your choice. You will have 24 hours to make your cut or else you forfeit your right to make a cut.

Part 3: The Vote - At this point there should be five films left (unless someone doesn't make a cut then there'll be more) and four spots left in the top 100. You will all rank the remaining films and privately PM or DM me your rankings of what you'd most like to see in the top 100 to least. The film that ranks the lowest overall will be the last film killed off in this purge.

If you have any questions lemme know. Otherwise, we'll get this purge going with part one!

FU9hLuk.png

@Steven_ will start the cycle off making his 8 saves. Then @FrogLenzen will make 8 saves. Then @*Diana will make 8 saves. Then @~Tom~ will make 8 saves. Then @Deeee will make 8 saves. Then @*Chris will make all 16 of his saves. Then @Deeee will make his final 8 saves and so on.

Please copy and paste this entire list. You will remove the 8 films you are saving from the list and let us know which films they are by posting them under "my saves". This cycle is about showing your cards, so show them loud and proud :kissbye:
