Rock singers tend to have great range and Jake def showed his chops on a really cool song that he made even better imo. Pls add me. I was floored by his voice and playing. I talked to him a bit after the show and he gave me a business card. A very nice, cool, and gifted young man. About the most realistic thing most of these artists can hope for is a little national exposure for WHO THEY REALLY ARE. The vast majority of the audience will never get to see the real Jake bc they trotted him out there with Pink and Adele and Shawn Mendes songs. That Pink song was Pop Rock though, and it was a battle, where they needed to bridge the perceived gap between two singers (not that I agree there was such a gap between Jake and Caroline, two guitar-hero rockers), so I could excuse that one particular choice. BUT, remember when they were judging Jake, and Kelly loudly declared: "... because ROCK is DEAD!"??? That really jarred me. Was she insinuating that Jake should steer clear of actual rock to do well on the show, thus agreeing with producers?
