  1. How does Ceelo Green compare to the contestants? I haven't heard much of him, but from the little I have he seems to have some decent range and acrobatics. His tone is also pretty distinct.
  2. I'd have to disagree. She has insane vocal range and excellent agility even in her higher register but more importantly, a unique, distinct tone that you know is her when you hear her voice. I do agree a lot of vocalists beat her in the power department though
  3. Who would you say could give him a run for his money among RnB male contestants? I think Cam Anthony and Chris Blue compete with him vocally. I'm sure there's a few others im missing.
  4. How do the voice coaches (past and present) compare to the contestants vocally? I guess you can just compare them generally, or be more specific like comparing Blake Shelton to country singers, JHud to powerhouse diva singers, Kelly to powerhouse pop contestants and so on. I'll give it a try.. If I'm being honest I think a lot of country contestants have been on par or better than Blake vocally. Sundance, Jake Hoot, Chevel to name a few. Then again I don't listen to much Blake so I may be underselling him. In terms of powerhouse diva vocalists, I think a few have better range than Jhud (Like Kyla Jade for instance), but not many match the combination of power and range of her belting notes. I think only Sissuandra gives her a run for her money in that regard. I must say though, I do prefer a lot of contestants to the coaches when it comes to pure singing ability. What do you guys think?
  5. Anna Grace and her one live performance was better than all her prelive rounds (Though I still like her other performances) Kimberly Nichole truly started to shine in the lives. Not that she wasn't very good pre lives. But I think it was song choice that helped a lot, also she showed off a lot more belting and power in the live rounds. Kyla Jade also had her two best performances live in one night only and let it be, and a bunch of other bangers like walhfmw and since you've been gone that were better than any of her prelive performances (other than her knockout)
  6. Edit: I guess I missed the words "post" and "studio" because some of these happened before the show and none of these are in the studio versions.. Kyla singing one night only. The audio is lower quality than her voice performance, but other than that it's almost identical Ali singing No Ordinary Love. Now this one is different than her voice rendition, she takes her sweet time with this one (9 minutes!) And if I'm being honest, she probably drags it along too much for most people's tastes. But if your a fan of Ali then you'll enjoy this, hopefully. Similar arrangement to his version on the voice, but different vocal embellishments and more use of his falsetto. She sings how deep is your love, the entire song. The time stamp for it is in the description. Full acoustic version of Cosmic love. I don't think he goes as high as he does in his knockout version during the climax, but his tone is still there. Kimberly singing the full version of what's up. She starts at 1:52 if you wanna skip her introduction. This was actually before her voice rendition.
  7. I do agree, but with a lot of these singers on the show. It's not that they can't or aren't hitting the note in a controlled manner, it's just that it doesn't sound pleasant, and ultimately whether the note sounds good is subjective to a certain degree. I think Kelsie falls more under the latter, but I actually like that high note. Some people (not here) have said the same thing about Kyla Jade or calling her a screamer. Its fine to not like the sound of her high notes, but she absolutely has 100% control of her voice. In my unprofessional opinion..
  8. I dont deny Sawyers talent and uniqueness, but I just can't get into his tone Kimberly Nichole was very good and is one of my favourite contestants ever, but this is one of her weaker performances. That speaks more to how consistently great she was than any flaw in her blind audition. My pick goes to India. One of the first auditions I fell in love with, it's not as good I thought it was back then, but she still has the prettiest vibrato Mia z and Anthony were also very good. Solid group
  9. I'd even add his semi final honestly. Which I think is more unpopular.
  10. Been a while since I've done this, and we're almost done. Who had the best blind audition of season 8? Last season there was a glaring omission off the list and that contestant ended up having the 2nd most votes. So if your favourite is not on the list, do not vote, and I will personally count the votes of contestants who are not listed.
  11. Yeah rewatching Ciana's KO, it's much better than I remember. I perhaps didn't give it a fair chance because of Tamara Jade the previous season. Watching both back to back, Ciana stacks up well, but I still prefer Tamara.
  12. Won't lie I clicked this expecting it to be the cover.. a bit dissapointed.
  13. I feel the opposite. When she changed things up with her knockout and playoff performances, I didn't like her performances. I wasn't fond of her interpretations of the song, and with how she executed them vocally and her tone, it just didn't mesh well with me. I've watched those 2 performances quite a few times trying to like them but to no avail. Her battle and audition are great though, and her rendition of when the party's over is pretty good, and probably one of the better instant save performances in recent memory.
  14. Ryan Gallagher is a good one. His battle was pretty underwhelming. He was drowned out by Marisa.
  15. Yeah Emily seems underrated around here, which is a bit surprising. Loved her song choices and voice.
  16. I can definitely hear her voice in this, it's not too different from the traditional country she already sings. I think her voice would fit with the song.
  17. I'm curious to see how she'd do with more modern country. Maybe something like Rascal Flatts or Alison Krauss? Jason Isbell? Idk, I'm just naming country artists I actually like..
  18. Good to see one night only winning the poll. I didn't expect it since in most people's best list it was usually "you don't own me" mentioned
  19. One of my favourite contestants of all time. Her 3 best performances (Let it be, you don't own me and one night only) are some of the best this show has ever seen. Curious to see which performance of hers is voted as her best And how would you rank her performances from best to worst? My list. 1. One Night Only Immaculate on every level. Im never not in awe of this performance. I think she sang this better than Jennifer Hudson.. 2. Let it be Definition of take me to church 3. You don't own me Her breakout moment, just a bit lower than the other 2 because I replay those more ( and they were live!) 4. Since you've been gone (sweet sweet baby) this was different from her usual performances and I loved it, especially her back and forth with the backup singers. 5. WALHFMF This performance alone redeems her finale night imo. She went all out on this one 6. How great thou art I loved the first half of this performance. Her lower register really shines here. The second half is good too but I felt like she held back a bit too much. 7. Seesaw This was pretty good, also, the perfect audition. Good enough to turn chairs but not showcasing all your vocal prowess. (Hell I don't think she did on the show, just watch her jennifer hudson ad lib as a backup singer..) 8. One last time Not the best song choice but she did what she could. Killer vocals but it felt like she had to slow it down a bit because the song was too fast for her. 9. Only love and the last tear Nothing wrong with the performances vocally. But the songs themselves were a bit boring and didn't do her voice justice at all. 10. This is me Her most disappointing performance imo. Because unlike her two finale performances, this was a song that should have worked for her with how big it is vocally and emotionally. I thought Kyla could pull it off after performances like you don't own me and one night only, but I feel like her higher register in this performance was not powerful enough for the song. Which is weird to say about kyla (She was also getting emotional in fairness to her)
  20. 1. I prefer Matthew's tone, but there was more variation in the timbre of shawns voice while pulling off more interesting runs. Slight edge to Shawn 2. Domenic purely for his uniqueness 3. Jej because I feel like his vocals were more dynamic, I also thought he was emotionally convincing as the battle progressed.
  21. Surprised people are mentioning Jej, if this thread was artists you liked only in prelives then I would agree. But um, did everyone forget his battle with Beth or did I misunderstand the thread? This thread is harder than I thought it would be though. Only names that come to mind so far are Mike Jerel, Celia Babini and Kelsie Watts (this might not be the case if her battle wasn't montaged) Usually i know when I will like a contestant or not during their blind. I actually liked Shane Q's battle over his blind, and Terrence was good in his battle and knockout.
  22. Sid and John were the clear winners of their battle imo Sid just overpowered Bailey. And johns voice was more suited to the song imo. I also didn't particularly like Julia's tone for this song. It sounded off some parts. Ryan vs Liam is close. I just prefer Ryan's tone. I agree with floorwax regarding the shrillness of liams voice.
  23. For the most part, S19 battles imo had a clear winner so I just picked which battles I thought would have the most even votes. Starting with the best battle of season 19.. curious to see who idf prefers. I'd have to go with Lauren because her performance had no vocal errors. Payge's start was not the best. Love this battle, not sure who I would pick tbh. The vote for this battle should be even, but it probably won't be. Also a close battle. The youtube comments seem to slightly prefer Rio, but Casme did win. So curious to see the results on this one. I didn't include a lot of the best battles since there seemed to be a unanimous opinion on them. Larriah > Carter, Desz > Joseph, John > Julia.
  24. I picked imo the closest battles of the season and see who idf thought won the battle This one is probably the most even battle of the season imo ( even if deion wasn't stolen..) I'm still not sure who I preffered more. I liked Deions tone more, but I think Victor pulled off more intricate vocals. My favourite battle of the season.. I do prefer Gean's tone, especially if their singing in the same octave. But Ryleigh's voice does overpower him near the end while I don't think Gean ever did the same, and I think vocally she was more impressive. Youtube comments seem to prefer Bradley, but idf loves Rachel, so curious who will win. I do prefer Bradley as well, I think he showed more colors to his voice and made better vocal choices, and there were some few iffy vocal moments I heard from rachel..
