  1. Honestly I think no matter what single they led with, it wouldn’t have made much difference. As long as country radio won’t play women, it’s not going to matter what they release and her situation with radio isn’t going to change. They tried songs like Friend Zone and Sway because it was the closest thing she had to the type of bro country radio normally plays, even having a song with Thomas Rhett didn’t really help her move up the charts much. It’s a boys game, unfortunately, and until that changes, I don’t see her getting much airplay regardless of what song she puts out. IMO she should move to pop instead, I think most of her music at this point sounds pop and R&B and not country, and she might have a better chance at getting radio play. Blackout is a pure pop song and was very well received, it was considered a highlight on an otherwise underwhelming soundtrack even by those unfamiliar with her. But yeah basically because the rest of the soundtrack tanked, I think that’s why people quickly forgot it.
  2. Not that he really counts as a proper Idol alum, but I seem to remember William Hung went to work a regular office job some years ago. He did put out an album or 2 though, didn’t he? But soon after that I think he returned to normal life.
  3. For what it’s worth Katy came out some time ago apologizing for that song and realizing in this day and age it’s in poor taste. I never minded Ellen that much. Yes she didn’t know that much about music but at least she provided some comic relief I guess. And I think she was meant to represent the average viewer at home, most of whom don’t know much about technique, music theory, etc. either but who just know what they like when they hear it and would buy that contestants music. For me the worst judge is Mariah. She just took way too long to make her comments and rambled a lot of nonsense, despite the fact she is knowledgeable about music. It doesn’t really do any good to have a judge be knowledgeable but not able to articulate their comments over someone who may not be knowledgeable but can still provide some sort of feedback or commentary or at least some levity. Mariah made everything even worse with her bickering with Nicki. And to this day Mariah acts like she was put in a prison camp like it was the worst experience of her entire life sitting in a chair all day and make some comments while getting paid the highest salary of any judge at that time. Please, she is so dramatic. And her diva persona wore thin after awhile. Harry Connick Jr is a really close second. He was ok in his first season but he became obnoxious after that, like he thought he was smarter than everyone else, including his fellow judges. He was very condescending a lot of the time. Let’s not forget the creepy move of putting a young girl on his shoulders and dancing around with her and his racially-charged attack on Quentin in season 14. Katy is definitely obnoxious and over the top with her antics. She takes away attention from the contestants a lot of the time and kissing that guy without his consent was also inappropriate. But I also think she can be entertaining sometimes when she actually dials it back and most of the time she does offer a lot of insightful critiques. Randy was awful in his last few seasons, you could tell he was just phoning it in. But I guess we couldn’t expect much when he had been on so many seasons and was also stuck with dud panels.
  4. It’s not exactly a secret that how they cast Idol and similar shows has very little to do with actual talent. They are casting for a TV show, so they care more about looks and personality, as well as people they think their audience will like. I auditioned for Idol online in season 13, in person season 15, and online again for this season, as well as in person for The Voice season 8, and was rejected in the first round every time. I auditioned with quite a few people I thought for sure who would get through that also were axed in the first round. And the few people I did see get through the next round I never saw on TV. You remember that pink haired girl they kept showing on Idol season 17 but we never knew her name or heard her sing? She made it through Hollywood Week but we never saw her except in the background. That was apparently the daughter of a friend that my boyfriend’s mom knows (confusing I know lol) So we even see people make it really far yet they may never be shown singing or get their name onscreen, even though they make it just as far as everyone else who does get shown. Then even if you are lucky enough to make it, let alone win the whole thing, it doesn’t guarantee a career. No matter how you want to get into the music business, it’s tough. And it’s tough to have a long lasting, successful career.
  5. Dalton Rapattoni - Happy Xmas (War is Over) RV9fCN_YGHo Not really a Christmas song per se but it's a winter holiday season kind of song, Voices by Jack & White (Brooke White's band) vNT1ZZz2GPw Jon Peter Lewis - It's Christmas LGo5OAn9Y90 Jon Peter Lewis - California Christmas WxY_WxDAef8 Kelly Clarkson - I'll Be Home for Christmas dTts0u5UB2w Kelly Clarkson - Underneath the Tree YfF10ow4YEo Stefano Langone - O Holy Night (Live) 239JmI4pt5U Maddie Poppe - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas z8QhAdlnTDs Maddie Poppe - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree 8wZZh6lGnjk And I really love Scotty's Christmas album, Christmas with Scotty McCreery
  6. I really like Maddie's album a lot, I haven't listened to all the winner's post-Idol debuts, but I think Maddie's is definitely one of the best ones, if not maybe the best one. Every song is solid and the cover artwork is really cool and unique too.
  7. I’d be interested in knowing how this collaboration came about since I’m not familiar with this band at all. The song is just ok to me but she sounds great on it. It’s interesting to see her keep branching out of country.
  8. I think one of my unpopular opinions is that I liked Lee DeWyze during his season lol And I didn't really like Crystal at all. I also liked Caleb Johnson but a lot of people seemed to think he was like a joke contestant, despite being a very talented hard rock singer. I was also a massive fan of Dalton Rapattoni from season 15 but a lot of people hated him for outlasting their faves.
  9. My main pet peeve with him is that nearly every conversation to do with Idol or other Idol alumni somehow always has to be made about Adam by his fans, even if the topic has nothing to do with him. It’s just really annoying. I read MJs a lot for example and the comment section is 90% AL doing this or that. It’s annoying for those of us who don’t care about him at all. Even a recent discussion about Alejandro taking a break from touring resulted in an unnecessary comparison between him and Adam even though Adam has nothing to do with Alejandro and there’s no reason to compare them. The conversation constantly gets made about Adam all the time and it’s like... enough already.
  10. I have nothing against the guy personally but I think Adam Lambert is the single most overrated Idol in history. Ok you can go ahead and ban me now lol
  11. Hard to make it popular again when Dalton isn't really active in music anymore. He's released a couple demo things on Soundcloud in the last few months but that's it.
  12. I only kept up with this season of Idol through blogs and then watched up till All Star Duets on Hulu, but I ended up checking out Alejandro's album anyway and I really like it! My boyfriend watched the whole season of Idol and really liked Alejandro so I heard about him more from my boyfriend than through watching the show. I did catch some of his performances, up until the duets. I like almost all the songs from his album except for a few, I don't like Black Cross at all (my bf doesn't either) but I really like Diamonds, Dance the Night Away, Vampire Shade, Heart Storm, Millennial Love, the remixed version of 10 Years, Tonight, Cholo Love, and Out Loud.
  13. I have to vote for season 16 (ABC season 1) by default. Objectively, I really enjoyed it and liked nearly everyone from the top 10 that year. For a reboot, they did a pretty decent job of making it feel like Idol. There were some really good performances that came out of that season and quite a few of the top 10 have gone on to have relatively successful careers after the show, more than most from the last few FOX seasons. Season 17 (ABC season 2), however, is the first time I haven't watched a full season since I began watching in season 5. I just found it hard to keep up with as I don't have much time for TV anymore. I kind of kept up through blogs online and then tried watching the season on Hulu after Laine had won but even watching there just felt tedious getting through an episode, they were nearly 2 hours long each. I don't think there were as many contestants who grabbed my attention, I liked Lacey, Alejandro, Laine, and Madison from what I did see. I only made it as far as the All Star Duets, I should have probably just skipped to the live shows since that's really what matters. So I can't fully judge the season since I didn't see it in its entirety. But I think going forward Idol should cut down on audition episodes and include more live shows if they can't make the season longer. And the episodes should maybe only be 1 hour instead of 2 or 2 hours spread over 2 nights. I would find it easier to get through an episode/season if they were shorter or didn't include so much unnecessary filler.
  14. My favorite seasons in order are 10, 11, and 7. I liked the diversity of contestants in seasons 10 and 11 and liked nearly all of the top 10 those seasons. And season 7 just straight up had some of the best talent of any season, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns - those were my favorites that year. And of course the fan favorites David Cook and David Archuleta. Least favorites in order are 14, 12, and 9. Season 14 just didn't have very many talented contestants that year, the only ones I kind of liked were Jax and Joey, but they were not consistent. And Nick Fradiani was from my state, so that made it interesting to watch, but otherwise there was no one to really root for. They were putting underbaked contestants like Daniel Seavey through. Oh and don't forget the light up chairs! Season 12 only had a solid top 5, all the guys but Burnell and Devin were awful. The producer manipulation to get a female winner and the severe lack of chemistry between the judges/awkward exchanges between Nicki and Mariah made this an awful season to watch. Let's not forget the disaster that was Lorenzo and that performance of Sugar Pie Honey Bunch with Devin and Burnell. Season 9 was only salvageable for me because I was a Lee DeWyze fan, otherwise I didn't care for anyone that year. Definitely a lot of contestants who shouldn't have gone to the top 10. Season 15 would almost make the list due to how they were clearly trying to rush it to the end and didn't put a lot of effort into choosing the song categories, not to mention the finalists were basically ignored on the finale. But Dalton Rapattoni was my all-time favorite contestant so that made the season salvageable for me, plus the finale was excellent. Another honorable mention would be season 13. There were a decent crop of finalists but the producer games like the airplane hangar round and the round where some contestants didn't even get to sing were just cruel and put a damper on everything.
  15. As much money as Taylor has, I doubt she could have afforded to buy the whole label, not to mention she’d be stuck with all the other artist catalogs she doesn’t want. She was not offered a fair chance to purchase them, her only option was to sign another deal with them and earn back each one for each new album she made. But she definitely should have been offered a real chance to buy them. At the very least, she made peace with the fact she couldn’t buy them back but Scott sold them to the one person she didn’t want to have them. Scooter got outside funding in order to put up that $300 million, I wonder if maybe Taylor could/should have done the same.
  16. Sorry but disagree. I think Melanie Martinez is considered the most successful since her debut album was certified platinum. But Melanie really doesn’t like being connected to The Voice. Cassadee had a platinum certified single and was nominated for a Grammy. But I’d put Danielle second after that and yeah she is one of the few, maybe only, Voice winner to get more than 1 or 2 albums. She’s also the only one still signed to her original label that isn’t a recent winner.
  17. Um the point is that Scott and Scooter have been proven to be liars. They claimed they reached an agreement with Dick Clark Productions about Taylor's AMAs performance, but Dick Clark Productions denied such a conversation ever happened. They also claimed that Taylor owes them money, Taylor's publicist came out with proof saying they in fact owe her over $7 million in unpaid royalties from over several years. If they can act like this towards an artist of Taylor's status, imagine how they treat much smaller artists. The point is that it sheds a light on the dark side of the music industry and how much people who play no part in an artist's work can still exert control over them and how much they take advantage of small artists. IMO Danielle should leave Big Machine when her contract is up and stay far away from both of them. All of their artists should.
  18. Regardless of whether she makes a statement or not, more importantly I hope this situation has opened her eyes and will teach her to be cautious around them and be wary of any contracts she signs with them. They’ve shown what they are capable of and how low they will go.
  19. It’s not right to harass her or write rude comments but considering Taylor is the reason why Big Machine, the label Danielle is on, is so successful, the least she can do is show some support to her. Taylor has tirelessly fought for the rights of ALL artists, including her. Scott and Scooter have shown their true colors. They are liars. It’s been proven they owe Taylor millions in unpaid royalties. This issue isn’t just about Taylor or what she is going through. It’s about what all the artists who work for them are probably going through and it’s shedding a light on what goes on behind closed doors in the music industry. Do you really think she should work for people like that?
  20. I hope Danielle has realized what scumbags Scott and Scooter are with what is going on with Taylor right now. Their behavior should be a huge red flag to any artist who works with them and I hope she is cautious about any kind of contracts she signs with them. No artist in their right mind should support them in this. I was really disappointed that she hadn’t spoken up in support of Taylor back when it was announced Scooter had bought Taylor’s masters but now she should really say something about this, whether publicly or privately. This is wrong and no artist deserves to be treated this way.
