  1. I think she at least deserves Best Direction for The Man since she directed it herself. Lover also deserves to win since it was such a great concept. I love how she is literally always breaking her own records. ICONIC. I’m pretty sure this will be like her 7th consecutive album to debut at #1, right? I’m pretty sure Fearless debuted at #1 and I know all her albums after that definitely did.
  2. I'd recommend giving her EP Getting Good a listen.
  3. Yeah I realized that once she posted about it. I guess the first single "Run" is coming out tomorrow, followed by the rest of the EP in September. Sucks we have to wait 2 months for it! And yeah I really hope she doesn't just combine the 2 EPs into one album 'cause there would really be no point in doing that. The decision to split the album into 2 EPs may have been due to the pandemic, I know she was still trying to write songs over Zoom calls and maybe the process is delayed since studios are closed, or only recently opening back up. Could also be a cost issue, maybe it's more financially feasible for the label right now than releasing a full album. I hope if and when she does put out a new album, it will be all new tracks and not just a combination of the 2 EPs we already have.
  4. Yeah this is a good point. You can only order a physical copy from her website and maybe some US fans couldn’t afford it or don’t have a credit card, etc. She might have also sold mote with Lover because there were 4 collectible editions that each had different content, whereas there isn’t anything different about the folklore editions except the artwork and I doubt many people bought all 8. For those who did, I think only bundles of 5 or less count towards sales and I bet a lot of people bought more than 5 without thinking to bundle them separately.
  5. I thought I heard she sold 1.3 million units in 24 hours though? Or was that globally? At any rate, no matter what the numbers end up being they are still a ton more than most other artists sell today. And naturally as someone is in the business for a long time like she has and releases more and more albums, the sales decline with each album. It happens to pretty much every artist and I don’t see it as a huge deal. She has had plenty of successes, a lot more than most, and the fact she’s still going strong and breaking records with each album is incredible. I wonder if she will be nominated for any Grammys for this one, like maybe Best Alternative Album?
  6. If you like really traditional country music, you can listen to her post-Idol debut Wildflower, but I don’t feel it represents who she is now as she was only 16 and didn’t write any of the songs except one. If you’re into pop country, definitely give Road Less Traveled, her second album, a listen. It was released 5 years after her debut and she has writing credits on every song. It’s a lot more personal and grown up. Her best work so far though I think is her latest EP Getting Good. It’s much shorter if you don’t have time for a full album and is her most recent work. She has writing credits on every song except the title track and IMO this is her best work yet. Particularly The Other Side is a great song about the death of her stepfather. Country in Me and Somebody Else’s Problem are other highlights and of course the title track.
  7. I’m honestly confused if Getting Over Him is only a single or is it an EP? And she’s releasing 2 EPs in one year instead of a full album?
  8. At first I didn't really like this album much but after listening to it more, it's really grown on me a lot!
  9. My personal ranking of her albums would probably be something like this: 1. 1989 - this will always be my favorite Taylor album. It's just iconic and it's her most successful for a reason. From top to bottom it is perfection. I don't know why people hate so much on WTNY or Bad Blood. If anything Shake It Off is the weakest song because it was intentionally made to be a catchy radio hit and it's super repetitive. This album came out at a really positive time in my life, so that's a large reason why I love it as well. 2. RED - this is the album that made me a fan and I'll always love it. It's also perfection and such great writing. 3. Lover - the #3 position right now is hard for me to rank. It used to be Speak Now, it might even be folklore, but it's too new to really know for sure. I really enjoyed Lover though, despite the fact I think it's too disjointed. It's 18 songs, which is a little bit long, and there's so many different sounds and themes on it it doesn't sound cohesive. But I do enjoy the variety and yes Cruel Summer is the Getaway Car of this album! It's too bad Lover didn't get a proper era/cycle like her other albums. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of this era. We also have to appreciate the fact this is the first album she owns. I feel like this is the quintessential Taylor album, it sums up who she is as an artist and person, everything she loves. She's always been fascinated by love and writing about it. She once said in the prologue of RED "Maybe I'll write a whole album about that kind of love someday, if I ever find it." Ladies and gentlemen, that album IS Lover. It's a full circle moment for her and the fact she actually owns every song on it makes that even more special. If someone had never heard Taylor's music before and knew nothing about her as a person, I'd probably tell them to listen to this album since it sums her up as a person and artist so well. 4. folklore - as I said, this album is maybe still too fresh and new to really know for sure where it ranks. At first I really didn't care for this album, I thought it was too slow and boring and thought all the songs sounded too similar. But it's grown on me a lot with more listens. It easily has some of her greatest writing ever, which is saying a lot. The emotional maturity too. 5. Speak Now - what has always been impressive about this album is that every song is self-written and she was only about 20 when she wrote it. Not every song is great, and that's to be expected when she's the only writer, but there are definitely some gems on here. It's an incredible, wonderful, magical album that I like to think of as her coming-of-age album where she begins toeing the line between high school fairytales and maturing into an adult living on her own for the first time. As incredibly well written as this album is, her later albums are even better, so they naturally rank higher. I will say regarding the original title, that even though I like Enchanted as a title better than Speak Now, I do think Scott was right about changing it. The album ISN'T all about high school fairytales anymore. Speak Now represented this overarching theme of the songs being like open letters to people, whereas Enchanted doesn't represent the real theme of the album nor does it represent her maturity and growth. 6. reputation - I think this is a good album, but highly overrated. I will agree that it feels a bit disingenuous from her, she even said that some of the songs were like her playing a character as a defensive mechanism. That's how it comes across, like a teenage girl who just discovered what alcohol is and thinks she is some Instagram baddie lol The back half of the album is a lot better and showcases a more genuine side of Taylor, that hopeless romantic poetry side we all know and love. 7. Fearless - as iconic as this album is, I think I kind of grew out of it some years ago. It was good for what it was then and will forever be an iconic part of her discography, but it definitely shows its age. She was in high school when she wrote this album and it shows. That's not to say it doesn't have incredible songs on it and it's easy to see why it won all those Grammys, but she just has so many better albums. 8. Taylor Swift - As OP said, this album is very good for being her debut and written at 16. It's not a bad album by any means, but it's easily the weakest in her discography pretty much by default. Again, her later albums are just better, so naturally this ranks at the bottom. It's still a solid album though. Favorite song from each: TS - Our Song Fearless - Fearless Speak Now - Long Live RED - Red 1989 - Clean reputation - Call It What You Want Lover - Cruel Summer, though Daylight is a close second - that reference to Red gets me every time! folklore - right now it's epiphany
  10. I guess you can only fit a certain number of choices in the poll so OP split them into 2 sections. You get to vote for each section.
  11. The album is kind of a mixed bag for me. I love her pop stuff like 1989 and Lover, so this is obviously a really different style from that. There are some good songs, but there's also others that feel kind of slow and boring. I don't feel like it's an album I could play on repeat a lot because I think after a while it's a kind of depressing, sad, dreary album. It feels more like something you'd put on when it's a cold, rainy day, curled up in an armchair by the fire with a thick blanket and mug of cocoa. My personal favorites so far are cardigan, seven, august, this is me trying, invisible string, epiphany (this is my top favorite), betty, and peace. Mid-tier for me are the last great american dynasty, exile I'm still kind of processing but it's becoming top tier for me (I don't like Bon Iver's parts, that's what's making it hard for me to fully get behind), my tears ricochet (also still processing this one, I heard a theory it may be about her battle over her masters which would help me understand this song better), mirrorball, mad woman, and hoax. The ones I just flat out don't like are the 1 and illicit affairs. The thing I feel is missing from this album are the catchy hooks and melodies. I get that she wrote this album more from a storytelling perspective rather than trying to write songs for the radio. But that also doesn't mean they have to lack melody or be boring. I've heard some say the album feels like one long song, maybe that's sort of the point because some of the stories are intertwined with each other. But yeah after a while, all the songs kind of start to sound the same and blend together. I feel like if they all have to sound similar, then she could/should have cut a few tracks. I've either liked or loved all her albums so far, but I'm not sure yet how I feel about this one. It's probably my least favorite though. It's not bad by any means but I don't think it's quite my taste. It would be better if there were more variety and maybe some upbeat songs to balance it out. I don't even mean upbeat like ME! or something, but even something like last great american dynasty or betty are a little more uptempo than some of the others. I don't know, maybe a lot of it will grow on me the more I listen. I also think I kind of prefer when she tells her own stories as it's more personal, rather than these made up stories about people we don't even know or fictional characters. Who is Betty and why should I care about her? I'll end on a positive note and say that epiphany is a truly stunning track and it's one of the few on here that made me really feel something when I heard it. I envision it being about a soldier in WWII who witnesses a fellow soldier die and it's really powerful. I think it's one of the best tracks she's ever done. Despite my feelings about this album, I do hope that maybe it will introduce her to a new audience who doesn't care for her pop stuff but would like this. It really shows off her skills as a writer and her vocals are more raw and pure, they aren't buried in tons of production and autotune like her pop albums. This is the album for people who think she can't sing or can only write childish pop songs - it really showcases another side of her that many of her haters probably didn't think existed. The fact it's doing so well is bringing it more to the forefront and grabbing attention outside of just her fans. Cardigan is expected to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, imagine achieving a #1 single with an album she didn't even plan, that had no singles, that wasn't written for radio, something that Lover tried but failed to achieve.
  12. I didn’t start watching until season 5 and stopped watching around Laine’s season so my votes go to seasons 7 and 10. Honorable mentions to 5, 11, 15, and 16. I feel that seasons 7 and 10 just had some of the strongest pools of contestants of any seasons. Seasons 10 and 11 in particular were very diverse in terms of genre and I liked nearly everyone from those seasons. Season 5 was special because it was my first year watching and I fell in love with the show. I feel like since this was right after Carrie’s win, this was when the ratings were at their peak I think. Season 5 gave us some great non-winners like Kellie Pickler, Elliot Yamin, and of course Daughtry. Stellar talent that year. Season 7 I really loved Brooke White, Carly Smithson, and Michael Johns (RIP). All such talented singers. Season 15 gets an honorable mention purely because Dalton Rapattoni is my all-time favorite Idol. It was also the show’s pseudo-finale and the finale was incredibly well done with bringing back all the past Idols. The only issue with that season was that the contestants did unfortunately take a back seat due to all the finale hype. Finally, season 16/ABC 1 gets an honorable mention because I think they did a pretty good job resurrecting the show despite being on a different network, new panel of judges, etc. I wasn’t sure how it would be and whether it would still feel like Idol, but I thought it turned out pretty well overall. I really liked that year’s crop of contestants and it was great to see Gabby get a major record deal and a 2x platinum, #1 single, showing that Idol can still help produce stars even though it’s been on the air for close to 2 decades.
  13. I'll preface my post by saying I actually wasn't a fan of Gabby at all on Idol. But I am a big fan of country/pop music, so I checked out her singles she released before the album and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them. Since I liked all the singles, I decided to check out the full album and I really like it quite a bit! I think the second half of the album is stronger than the first half, but my favorite songs include I Hope, Thank God, Footprints on the Moon, The Good Ones, Jesus & My Mama (was quite surprised when I heard how rocky this one was!), Hall of Fame, Got Me, Rose Needs a Jack, and Strong. The only ones I'm kind of meh on are Write It on My Heart and You're the Only Reason. The title track is ok, but since it's the only one she didn't write on I think you can sort of tell the writing style differs a lot from the rest of the album. And I don't really like the "GoldMIIIINNNNEEE" hook either. The Charlie Puth remix is fine, but the original is definitely better IMO and I think a lot of people feel the same way about the remix. No matter what, I always like to see Idols do well whether I was a fan of them on the show or not. I'm pleased to see how well Gabby has done since the end of her season, she may be one of the few finalists to get a major record deal other than the winner in several seasons. And the success of "I Hope" is incredible for a debut single, especially since females have a difficult time with radio play in country music. So overall I think her debut is really strong, definitely one of the best Idol debut albums out there.
  14. Danielle appeared on Diplo's livestream when he debuted the song, starts at hour 1, min 47: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUd1j9rhp1c
  15. I know of Diplo but couldn’t tell you any of his songs. I don’t know how often I’ll play this one but she sounds good on the song, though they kind of over edited her voice I think. No matter what, it’s a big deal she’s included on it since he’s quite a big artist. I’d be interested in knowing more about how that collaboration came about.
  16. I watched the first run on ABC but haven’t been watching Laine’s season or this one. I used to love Idol back in the day and watched every season from 5 onwards, even the terrible FOX seasons. But once season 17 came around, I just kind of lost interest on top of not having time to dedicate 2-4 hours a week to watching one show. I passively keep up through blog recaps, here, the YouTube posts of their performances, or through my boyfriend who watches. The episodes are just too long. If they were cut down maybe to 1 hour I might watch. The auditions especially are tedious to me. I get they draw in the highest ratings but I personally always hated spending so much time on contestants we never see again. At least if they cut out most of the backstories and we just heard them sing it might be more tolerable. But 6 episodes just spent on auditions was part of the reason I dipped. I just don’t care. Get to the good stuff once the weak contestants have been weeded out and we are in Hollywood/Hawaii/lives. The amount of so few live shows also doesn’t help the contestants grow or establish a strong fan base to take with them after the show. It feels like a lot of buildup just for only a few weeks of actual competition and that’s probably another reason why I didn’t feel it was worth my time watching. The judges’ critiques are usually useless as well. If you skip all the dreck, you can probably cut the show down to 30-40 minutes. IMO the format just really needs to be reworked to make the episodes shorter and cut out some of the useless stuff.
  17. New interview: https://www.celebsecrets.com/danielle-bradbery-on-how-her-new-boyfriend-impacted-her-new-single-never-have-i-ever-exclusive/
  18. Yeah I do agree that I don't think it matters much what song they put out to radio, if radio basically doesn't want to play her songs, she should just release what she wants and what she is most proud of. Hence why even if NHIE may not seem super radio friendly to a lot of people, it seems to really suit her style and represents what she is going through right now and that's why it's out. I do think this song will really show people her own unique style and establish her own musical identity, regardless of how well it ends up performing.
  19. Um sorry to break it to you but that’s kind of how the music industry works. As much as I liked the ballads on her album, they never would have gotten much airplay because it’s not what radio generally plays unless it’s from a well-established artist. And even at that, the songs like Sway and the Thomas Rhett collab still failed to really make that big of an impact. It is a tough sell for female country artists, they can basically throw anything at the wall and hope something sticks. In general, I think she should focus on doing the music that feels natural to her and this song seems like a good example of that. But the label also decides what songs get to be singles and they aren’t going to waste time and money promoting songs they don’t think will be commercially successful enough to recoup their losses. That’s how the business works. If anything, they’re gonna probably release more pop-oriented stuff to radio because that’s what gets played. Gabby Barrett recently got a #1 with I Hope, which sounds very Carrie-esque, and it even crossed over to pop. Danielle is first and foremost a country artist but she’s also always incorporated other genres like pop and R&B in her music. She’s not a traditional country artist.
  20. I think regardless of whether it ever gets sent to radio or not, that there’s a good chance it will still be part of the album. The only reason I think FZ wasn’t was because the direction of the album had changed so much, it wouldn’t have fit in.
  21. I seem to remember that when Shallow was released that it was dubbed the lead single from her next album, but that seems odd because it was a cover. I'd be surprised if it even ended up on the final cut of the album. I don't see why NHIE would not be the lead/official single. I do think regardless of what the situation is we will probably hear a few singles before the album comes out. In her most recent interviews she has said they only have 2 fully completed songs so far and now with the virus, it's unlikely she's been able to be in a studio at all to finish recording. Before the release of IDBWM, they released about 4 promo singles leading up to the album's release, they may do something similar again with this album.
  22. I really love the new song, I’ve loved it since I first heard the live version, and she sounds great! To me this is like a mixture of slow jam rock n roll with R&B/pop. I really like the sound and I think this is one of the strongest tracks she’s put out to date. It’s so unique and I’ve always loved how since IDBWM she’s been really trying to carve out her own unique sound, it’s like a blend of country, pop, and R&B that doesn’t sound quite like what anyone else is doing.
  23. As a Lauren fan, I'm just curious why you feel that way.
  24. Never Have I Ever to be released May 8th according to the bio on her website! I’m really excited to hear the studio version of this, I think it’s honestly the best song she’s put out yet. https://daniellebradbery.com
