That’s pretty true for Idol. In the first semifinal round in their respective seasons, Gil Sinuet, Kristin Holt, Patrick Fortson, Candace Coleman, Jordan Segundo, Marque Lynch, Briana Ramirez, Eric Yoder, Amy Krebs, Joanne Borgella, Ricky Braddy, Matt Giraud (WC), Taylor Vaifanua, Ashley Rodriguez, John Park, Jovany Barreto, Naima Adedapo (WC), Adam Brock, Erika Van Pelt (WC), Breanna Steer, Cortez Shaw, Kristen O’ Connor (WC), CJ Harris (WC), and Michael Simeon all performed 2nd in their group and failed to be voted through. Some only made the finals because they were selected as a judge wildcard pick. Seasons 15-17 didn’t feature public voting during the semifinals, so I didn’t include them.

My thoughts too lol. The second half is stacked. Replace DeWayne with Makayla or Louis and that could possibly be the Top 10.

Overdone song is overdone. I don’t think she’ll do herself any favors with that choice. She’ll be forgotten.

That’s a good point, actually. Maybe they opened auditions early so Lauren/Grace would be eligible to try out again before they passed the age limit? Also, I think this semifinal round will be more amateur looking than the Top 10 rounds. It would probably be too much work to send all 20 contestants the proper equipment just for one round. I also wonder how the finale will work this year? Will there be celebrity performances from home?

So this will basically be like watching YouTube and IG videos and voting on them. Not bad. I love watching those anyway lol.

Cyniah is one of the best singers but I hope she attempts something other than just diva songs. Also, she seems a bit arrogant to me.

Francisco’s voice + Louis’ look and presence = the perfect star.

Jeez, Aliana is worse than I even originally thought. She does not seem comfortable on stage at all. To think she got chosen over people like Amber and Shannon...

Faith could be good but she’s so stuck on being a karaoke singer. She’s the kind of contestant Simon would’ve ripped apart in the older seasons. She should be singing Bishop Briggs types of songs, not Lady Marmalade and Ain’t Nobody.

It’s not a powerhouse voice but I think he has a great recording voice. Definitely current and radio friendly. I just don’t think he has much star potential. He’s kinda like this season’s Sam Woolf.

No lol but someone mentioned on this forum that ABC might cancel Idol and replace it with Listen To Your Heart. It’s definitely a one and done show.

The Bachelor: Listen To Your Heart definitely won’t be a replacement for Idol. It only got a 0.7 for its premiere.

I’d be fine with Arthur winning because he’d be the first fully Asian winner in Idol’s history (Laine was mixed.)

I think this current season will be rushed for completion. Perhaps a 20 - 10- 5 - 3 elimination format. Just so they can say they completed the 18th season. I doubt the winner will get any attention and the show will just try again with S19, perhaps letting people who made the Top 20 (but not Top 10) a chance to re-audition. As well as new judges. I know that sounds pessimistic but with the show already announcing auditions for next season, it seems like they’re ready to get this one over with. Also, they’re gonna want to wrap the season before Katy gets TOO pregnant lol.

Based on the Aulani performances, Grace deserves the spot without a doubt. Overall however, Lauren is more memorable IMO. Her original song, “God Made A Woman” was one of the highlights of Hollywood Week. I honestly thought she was a producer favorite so I’m surprised she’s part of this twist.

Jeez I forgot about that. At least it was between two singers nobody really liked anyway. Grace and Lauren both deserve to be in the competition. Take out Faith or Aliana and give one of their spots away.

Idol will start back up once every other reality show does. Covid-19 is hurting any show currently filming. AGT, The Voice, Idol and Survivor aren’t just gonna get canceled forever. The season will finish at a later time or they’ll do the living room concert type thing. Whether or not there will be a S19 is the bigger question.

Right now, I don’t see a big need to hurry up with the live shows. It’s not like the winner could even get to work on recording an album right now, given how the whole entertainment industry is pretty much on hold.

The list was updated and it’s Francisco who sang Falling, so maybe that person just didn’t catch the singer’s name and thought it was Devin.
