It’s because of the actors strike. NBC is desperate for programming to fill up time.

There have always been no chair auditions aired, since the beginning. You can’t montage all the no-chairs because it would make it seem like everyone who auditioned got a chair. They want to show the coaches being discerning. They want to show the coaches giving encouragement to the “almost good enoughs”. They want to make a chair turn seem like a prize. The fact that there are so many 4 chair turns this season is probably the reason they are showing MORE, not less, no chairs. They need to show the contrast.

The last guy who watched Reba’s TV show picked her. She had a shot there.

They are “cutting down” the original episode by removing everything except the performances and the decisions. No packages, no between audition shtick, no filler.

The specific contestants who get montaged are rightfully upset about why they were chosen for the dubious “honor”. But complaining about the fact that montages exist? In Season 24? Nope, there’s no reason to act as though it’s unexpected.
