  1. "oh no. my favorite pokemon might ONLY be ranked number 20. " when as steven said a lot of people have already lost their number 1. a bug pokemon was never going to win this rankdown. "oh no. one of my top 5 pokemon ever was cut. i only now have my number 1 in the top 20. oh so sad for me"
  2. Gardevoir Gardevoir is one of those Pokemon where you see it and go "well, I'll never be able to safely do a google search at work for it." If any Pokemon has ascended Pokemon and reliably made it to a Pokemon Sex Symbol Status its Gardevoir (though both Lopunny and Incineroar put up a good fight and it seems like Hatterene is going to put up a good fight, though the fact that she's really just a tiny alien wearing fantastic clothes will probably make it more of a LOLZ-y meme than an R34 icon). And with the even hip-pier Mega Gardevoir that certainly didn't decrease the number of horny Pokemon fans it has. First introduced in the worst Generation, Gen III, Gardevoir really had an uphill battle for me. But considering that most of that generation is absolutely abysmal (and thus GameFreak letting in the fewest Gen III Pokemon into Gen VIII) Gardevoir is easily probably in the Top 5 of Gen III Pokemon. Considering the first four spots are given to Ludicolo that's pretty good. Gardevoir is a psychic/fairy type Pokemon that can be a good staple of any Pokemon party. It doesn't have that many weaknesses (Ghost, Steel, Poison) though its weaknesses will be seen in a lot of endgame teams, and it has one immunity to dragon and resistances to fighting and psychic. It has a great special attack and special defense which means that it can probably even slot against the ghost types it has trouble with and learns a lot of STAB moves to take advantage of its good special attack and dual-types. If Espeon hadn't been nominated and cut then I wouldn't be cutting Gardevoir since I like it more than quite a few of this Top 34 even despite my very vocal dislike of Gen III. But it has to go because nobody can be happy in this rankdown except Sola I guess.
  3. if you didn't nominate espeon this would not have happened. with the nearly ~1000 pokemon in existence, starmie falls in my bottom 100 so no this is no consolation.
  4. Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean I'm shocked this niche JRPG and its sequel nearly cracked the Top 100. I'm not complaining because both are in my Top GameCube games (and subsequently two of my most-played games of all-time. I logged A LOT of hours on my GameCube). For a personal story, I had my Dad buy this game off Ebay after playing Tales of Symphonia. Because one of the inserts advertisements in the Symphonia box was for this game. And I love Tales of Symphonia so much that I figured that I will love Baten Kaitos just as much and ~~~shocker~~~ I did. Baten Kaitos was developed by Monolith Soft (makers of the Xenoblade Chronicles series now). The game was directed by Yasuyuki Honne (most famous for art and design in both Xeno and Chrono series before this) and Hiroya Hatsushiba. I feel they are two kind of unknowns. Anyway, since Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo, PLZ bring this to Switch. LOL. These games were developed when they were owned by Namco so the ball is probably in their metaphorical court. I would re-buy this in an instant. In fact throughout this rankdown I've considered breaking out my GameCube to play it to see if 28-year-old me would have a better grasp on some of the more complicated mechanics (like aging of items and recipes) of the game. Maybe after I defend. Anyway, you the character are a guardian spirit for the main character. Occasionally the main character of the game will break the fourth wall to ask you questions and your answers can impact the game, mostly in the efficiency of battling aspect. The battle system largely operates on cards. You can acquire cards with items throughout the game and you must assemble a deck with weapon, armor, and healing cards (or other miscellaneous items like cameras used to take pictures of monsters to sell later). Like other deck-building games there are more advanced mechanics which allow for more damage (like using cards numbered in succession or combos) but the basics are you attack with weapons, defend with armor, and heal with items. Cards also have outside uses like being used for holding items for quests. And the aforementioned aging will cause some cards to change from one card (e.g. a ripe banana) to another (e.g. a rotten banana). Fun fact, this aging aspect of the game makes Baten Kaitos one of the longest games to do a 100% speedrun. The fastest on record is a whopping 341 hours, 20 minutes, and 3 seconds. That's because it takes 336 hours to upgrade an item to a bottle of shampoo. The plot starts as kind of standard for a JRPG, the main character Kalas starts his journey with the intent of avenging the deaths of his grandfather and brother. On the way he assembles a band of friends including my favorite Savyna (if there's a sexy woman they are my favorite. It's incredible how I just didn't realize I was gay until I was like 21). It then follows a typical twisty anime plot until you save the world from evil. Obviously. It's a fun game that I don't think would particularly have a place in 2019. Like I said some mechanics are needlessly complicated, the voice acting is not great, and the plot in this day and age isn't fantastic. There are games that are much better. But it's a unique game and I love the cast of characters and one that I feel I would enjoy playing in 2019 because of my fondess from it before. So props for making it so far. It seems fair to be cut now.
  5. I'd say thank you except Square Enix makes A LOT of money from its mobile division from its Gacha games (like FF: Brave Exvius and FF: Record Keeper) and its ports of classic games like Romancing SaGa. ETA: Though I will say that the Shadowbringers expansion + Dragon Quest Walk boosted 2019 to greater profitability over last year for Square Enix
  6. Sorry. To clarify, I mean Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
  7. Final Fantasy XIV Sorry Sola, but also you had the chance to revive this before I got in to play Power of Save! Our posts were nearly an hour apart! Anyway, I think Final Fantasy has been kind of maligned in this rankdown for petty reasons. There's a reason that outside of Pokemon, Final Fantasy is the best-selling and most popular JRPG series outside of Japan (though Dragon Quest still seems to win within its home country, and I imagine the narrow gap just got wider with the releases of Dragon Quest Builders 1/2 and Dragon Quest XI). And with the best (FFIV and FFVI) or most iconic entries (FFVII and FFIX) already eliminated, it seems fair for the MMORPG to be eliminated now. And this isn't the first time I've tried to get this game cut as I nominated it around the 275 marker and it was cut and revived. And that was before I knew it was your favorite game, Sola. I don't play MMORPGS. I don't own a PS4 and I don't have a PC that's good enough to play games on (OTHER THAN THE SIMS) and constantly buying into a subscription doesn't really work for me because I don't like the commitment. And this is just my crazy brain, but I feel that if I can't just jump into an MMORPG now because they've all already been going on too long. Anyway, back to Final Fantasy XIV. The game was first launched in 2010 as essentially an alpha test to an incredibly rough reception which caused the servers to close in 2012. Fortunately for fans though, the game was relauched in 2013 to much better reception. It's had three expansion packs and the most recent, Shadowbringers, is, for some outlets I follow, one of the best games of 2019. I think that what works best for this game is that it is essentially still at its core a traditional Final Fantasy game with MMORPG elements thrown in. The game on all accounts looks great and, more importantly, has a fun world to explore. And with the ability to change classes and jobs with the same character, there's no need to make a lot of characters to fill different roles within the party. The drawback seems to be that the endgame can be monotonous and repetitive. But with the overwhelming amount of things to do before the endgame (including the three expansion packs) you should be busy for a while. I think that Final Fantasy XIV really shows that there is a path for MMORPGs that stumble out of the gate to find their footing. In fact, I do wonder if that's one of the reasons that neither Anthem nor Fallout 76 fans have given up hope (and it does seem like Anthem is going to potentially undergo a Final Fantasy XIV-like reboot) that their games will eventually be very good. In the close race between Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest for most iconic JRPG (non-Pokemon category), it seems like Final Fantasy XIV was able to achieve one things Dragon Quest was not: a successful and popular MMORPG that can keep the franchise running between increasingly delayed mainline installments.
  8. Power Save I will do the Baten Kaitos write up!
  9. I’m obsessed. I hope Baby Yoda wins the next Disney Rankdown.
  10. The only good thing about IDF eating everything up was that I could forget that Genessy won.
  11. I have a pretty good memory and there were only ~100 left but I also have three undergrads and a thesis to finish so o decided it was for the best to discontinue it. At least until I have more time. Yes! But it probably won’t be for a little bit.
  12. Tree is Ana Gasteyer. One of her SNL impersonations was Phoebe. I’ve been more and more convinced every week that the tree is her. It sounds way too much like her for it to be anybody else.
  13. Baby Yoda meme rankdown. Where there’s no rankdown because every picture of Baby Yoda ties for the win.
  14. Make me a wild card so I can immediately give immunity to Arike and Grocery Store Joe.
  15. Baby Groot can die. Baby Yoda is my new favorite baby. Also lol I didn’t keep track of cuts on my excel sheet so when IDF ate it there went all the data. Lol. It would have to be started brand new.
  16. I’ve gotta write a thesis. Lol. Also sorry for the delay I was feeling sick today!
  17. Cut Gardevoir I’ll do my write up tomorrow
  18. I’m I’ll Rei. Please give me a 12 hour extension so I can sleep the day away.
  19. I'm back. I never left. But this thread is back. I will list something SYTYCD soon. Probably my personal Top 60. But in the meantime c7EyOy0-Of0
  20. #38 and 37 will be up today! Any guesses? One is a man so I'm sure that narrows it down.
  21. Starmie and Piplup wouldn't have been petty cuts for me. I don't like them at all. Water-type is my least favorite type. Shockingly, I don't think you will be disappointed with my cut.
