  1. The Goddess of Spring We've cut a few songs from the Disney Silly Symphony series but I don't think I've cut one yet so I get to talk about them a little bit here. I threw in the first one of these in the rankdown with the very famous "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" which I think even if you don't know it off the top of your head you immediately recognize as it's by far the most famous of these Disney shorts (you probably recognize a lot of others even if you don't know it like "The Skeleton Dance"). I think the biggest thing that comes from these is the advancements Disney made with animation and technology. The short "Goddess of Spring" is notable for how much the advancements in animation in this lends to the feature film Snow White. Because this is the first Disney feature that has human characters. And while the animation at Disney would make leaps and bounds before finally releasing Snow White, this was an important proof of concept (i.e. it can be done and done "realistically" and well). The short itself is a 9+-minute retelling of the Hades and Persephone story though Hades here is closer to a traditional Satan than the Greek god. It's operatic and melodramatic and a fun watch if you've got the time and desire. But it's no huge loss at this point. Saving: Poor Jack
  2. Ralph Macchio I hope this is the Karate Kid! Otherwise I don't know who I am cutting. I AM saving Hines Ward because there are like 4 Asian men in NFL history and he's like one of them! The most famous of them! He made the Steelers tolerable! Nailed it, Ralph Macchio is most famous for being the Karate Kid in the Karate Kid franchise. If you don't know him from that you might know him as one of those Greek/Italian guys that gets cast as Latino because he also had a recurring role as Archie Rodriguez in Ugly Betty. That brings me to telling you all that in high school theater class we had a like casting guy come and talk to us about the industry (LOL what INDUSTRY in KC) and he singled me out and he was like "Look at her, she'd be very popular because she could be any ethnicity: Latino, Mediterranean, Asian. She's got them all covered." This is true. That's why I am now a famous actress and not a scientist. Anyway, Ralph was on Season 12 of DWTS with Hines Ward who I saved. He placed 4th. He was paired with Karina and they started out very strong and I don't think there would have been any complaints had he made the Top 3 with Chelsea and Hines. But 4th isn't a bad spot. It's only bad because he was eliminated over Kirstie Alley. Saving: Hines Ward Jeopardy: JR Martinez

  4. Nastia Liukin On my phone so I’ll pretty this up later. Nastia Liukin is a gymnast most famous for usurping what seemed to be Shawn Johnson’s predestined moment and winning the Gold Medal at the All-Around Individul competition at the 2008 Olympics. For those in the know in the US this was genuinely a shock. Nastia Liukin was an excellent gymnast but Shawn Johnson was more well-rounded (Simone Biles is actually the closest Shawn Johnson successor and has obviously managed to do everything Shawn did well even more exceptionally). However, I was always in the Nastia camp. Anyway, I dislike Shawn and wish that Nastia could outlast her in this game. And I have nothing to point to exactly why I’ve not really liked Nastia in the past like decade (probably because other US athletes, particularly gymnasts, have not been afraid to use their voices) so this isn’t a really hard cut for me. Save: Zendaya Jeopardy: Adam

Remaining Who's Been Painting My Roses Red (Alice in Wonderland) Pavement Artist (Mary Poppins) My Own Home (Jungle Book) Let Me Be Good to You (Great Mouse Detective) Town Meeting Song (Nightmare Before Christmas) Poor Jack (Nightmare Before Christmas) What Are You Waiting For? (Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen) The Goddess of Spring (Silly Symponies)
  9. The Scuttlebutt (The Little Mermaid 2023) I find it interesting that the Live Action Little Mermaid added new songs but none of them are the new songs that were added to the Broadway adaptation of The Little Mermaid which was also done by Alan Menken. Instead they brought in my enemy Lin-Manuel Miranda to assist Menken with new lyrics for new songs. I have to say that I think the Broadway songs work more because while adding new parts (such as a Flotsam and Jetsam song) they still stay very close to the vibe that Howard Ashman had with the original music. Again with the example of the Flotsam and Jetsam song "Sweet Child" it flows right in to "Poor Unfortunate Souls" seamlessly. Likely because Glenn Slater had worked with Alan Menken several times before taking the big role of stepping in for Howard Ashman who doesn really great work in the original Little Mermaid. But with a song like "The Scuttlebutt" it just feels like it sticks out like a sore thumb. Like they needed Lin-Manuel Miranda put in his elementary level rap song because that's who LMM is and he can't be stopped. No matter if the song or movie calls for it or not. The Little Mermaid has such a great collection of songs, the Broadway adaptation was able to add some great new additions seamlessly, and even some of the new additions in this new movie are fine. And with that all in mind it makes the very awkward, very weird, and very poor "The Scuttlebutt" stand out like a sore thumb. Save: The Age of Not Believing

  12. Debi Mazar Who is Debi Mazar you might ask? Good question because despite seeing her face and being like "Oh I know her" I cannot name off the top of my head a single movie or tv show she's actually been in. So let's see why I know her face. She has a very striking one so it's possible I just saw it somewhere and was like "Bank that in my brain: Debi Mazar." Let's see. Some facts from Wikipedia as I read it to figure it out. Debi Mazar started her career as a B-Girl! OMG SHOULD I TAKE BACK MY CUT? I'm already halfway through this write-up so I won't. Then it goes on to some music video stuff, some stuff in movies, her wedding was officiated by ELLEN BURSTYN. I might be regretting my choices here. Okay looking through I must know here from a few episodes of Younger and just regular cultural osmosis since she's appeared in a lot of things I've watched. Also GTA III. Anyway, Debi was on Season 9 of DWTS. She was paired with Maks Chmerkovskiy. They were eliminated 4th in what seems like no big loss. Saving: Corbin Jeopardy: Martin

  19. Star of Something New (High School Musical) As you know I am obsessed with HSM, but there's too much of an earnestness in the duets between Troy and Gabriella that don't match the camp of the rest of the songs. They tend to all kind of be the same song. And some of the most boring songs in the HSM franchise. I mean Troy being a basketball player who loves to sing and theater and also making out with hot girls isn't that unique when all the basketball players can sing and also do things like BAKE. But I LOVE Zac Efron. And I love how baby he looks in this movie! So young! This is a cute song and a cute performance. But I think it's fair here to save some older songs. (That probably won't make it that far anyway, but you know I don't want them to go away quite yet!). Saving: The Sword in the Stone (The Sword in the Stone)
