The Mediabase panel originally featured 160 stations. Over the past year, the panel lost 3 of these stations and (recently) added 2 more:

160 stations - 3 stations (KPLX Dallas/9.2, WCKT Ft Myers/2.6, WNSH New York/9.3) + 2 stations (WHEL Ft. Myers/1.5 and WOLF Syracuse/2.0) = 159 current stations

 

As of 4/25/22, 158 of the 159 current MB panelists are now spinning Damn Strait. It appears that WXBQ Johnson City is the only station still dragging its feet?!!!

Note:  It also appears that WXBQ and Mediabase are engaged in a pitched battle of wills. From this past weekend's Country Aircheck Weekly/4.25.22:

"These are the new weights for Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country Reporters for both the Published and the Activator panels, based on audience figures from Nielson. Weights for stations in PPM markets use a three-month average of September-October-November 2021 AQH Persons. The Fall 2021 AQH Persons figure is used for diary markets... stations that do not subscribe to Nielsen have been assigned a weight of 1.0 since it is not possible to calculate a weight without an AQHP number to enter into the formula. This is a temporary situation."  ... Prior to this past Monday, WXBQ Johnson City had a weight of 4.3.  Their weight is now 1.0 -- ouch!

"The Waiter" is definitely one of my favorite songs from the album. However, I'm not sure it would do well on country radio. IMO "Damn Strait" is radio-friendly, has clever lyrics, & getting buzz from industry people that I that I think it's a good single choice.

I think The Waiter has a better storyline. IMO.

Scotty McCreery, “Damn Strait”

From “Marina Del Rey” to “Blue Clear Sky,” the song allusions are plenty in Scotty McCreery’s wry homage to George Strait. The irony, however, is that McCreery can no longer listen to his hero — since his lover left him with only bad memories of Strait songs. “I know it ain’t your fault that she left me, and you know you’ll be the king,” he sings in the bridge, “but right now ‘I Hate Everything.'” It’s clever songwriting, delivered by one of the genre’s best King George disciples.
