buttons66 Posted July 31, 2021 Author Share Posted July 31, 2021 Since its inception, the Monterey Cowboy Festival's (formerly the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival) foundation has been charity. As a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3), MCF has had the privilege of giving over $50,000 to local charities over the past 20 years. The majority of those years were led by the festival's founder and former Monterey police chief, Gary Brown who lost his battle with lung disease in 2016. Gary founded the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music festival in 1998 in an effort to preserve the culture of the American cowboy, while doing all he could to give back to his local community. In an effort to continue Gary's commitment to giving, we are honored to announce the formation of the Gary Brown Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund will focus on students (8th-12th grade) in Monterey County who are looking to enhance their music education in the areas of school tuition, music camp tuition, private music lessons, or musical equipment purchase/repair.
