025. Erika Van Pelt - Hmph, some makeover... i remember the backlash after she changed her hair.. it was so drastic i think it was the reason people didn't vote. like they didn't recognize her anymore... 

024. Ruben Studdard - - Ability larger than a body part. maybe because of his weight.. didn't watch that season

Vonzell Solomon - Kick mail service: that one anecdote i remember of her (and don't need wiki for it!!) she was a postwoman before idol!!! can't remember which state she is from, is it florida!? and she did kick ass sometimes.. her most memorable performance was "i have nothing" by whitney houston 

022. Haley Reinhart - "Tell me where love goes when it's gone..." lyrics from a song on her album.. not my fav and would have list her much lower. never liked her trying to be sexy in every performance and her annoying habbit to growl like there something stuck in her throat on every song. even and especially when it is least needed.. 

021. Fantasia - Wears hometown out front: she is from North Carolina and she was inducted to the NC hall of fame. and i agree with you that no one should even attempt at "i believe" at risk of being compared. the only coronation song that worked and she sang the hell of it. it is HER song!

030. Hollie Cavanagh - Had to climb quite a bit. because that song was one of her best. between her and jessica she wins hands down. vocally and likeability. such a powerful voice for a tiny person. i think she could have been much better winner and more commercial than anyone on that season. yet season 11 was when people lost interest and she faded back into obscurity. still she is one of my favs.

Jennifer Hudson - Caught up in spircles. is it because she did circle of life and was eliminated after? yet can't remember much of her run on idol besides that bottom 3 divas.. season 3 was dominated by fantasia who just wiped the floor with everyone else on that season. or maybe because i saw the season WAY AFTER she was announced the winner so i already knew what to expect.. (like watching a thriller knowing who the murderer is). 

028. Caleb Johnson - A song title that was on this contestant after an Utopian breakout. are referring to his single fighting gravity? still loved his performances during idol and both his duets with jessica meuse (not so much the one with jena.. ) yet never thought he would be a good and successful winner. mostly because his style is to generic and unoriginal and the fact that season 13 was when original songs debuted on idol. caleb was a good singer for covers and as a lead for a cover band but as an artist he lacks that singer/songwriter skills for success especially in the rock genre. so no. i don't think he was a worthy winner and not surprised with how his career turned out. pretty much forgotten. 

027. Carrie Underwood - I may break some hearts with the ranking of this contestant. being a fav of many around here. it was my first idol season watching within 24 hours after the original air. such good times on the idol message boards!! i believe it was one of her performances that started the "note from the mic stand" thread after she kicked the mic stand.. still she wasn't my fav during the season as i had two others who i liked more.. her run splits in two for me: until top 5 albeit a good singer, she seemed to be lacking personality, but for some reason from top 5 onwards i started to enjoy her more and she started showing some stage presence. i never held a candle to alone performance. and she wasn't spared of simon's criticism, my fav was when he compared her performance to a washing soap commercial from the 50s (such vivid imagination..). still i only started to like her after idol with her debut album. she also seems having great sense of humor (loved her with brad paisley hosting an award show). 

026. Nadia Turner - Matthew McConaghey. this is by elimination process so there is no connection. unless i was off with another clue. can't remember much of her besides that one performance of the dusty springfield song but i prefer hollie singing it..

i have a feeling miss denise beat me with her clues and got them all right.. so i won't even try. 

no comment on the ranking. season 5 had the best overall top 5 and the most diverse. every other season had someone on top 5 who didn't deserve that spot.

two winners and neither was my fav on their season. i think maddie payed a costly price for not keeping her mouth shut. still the way HR treat or don't treat the idol winners is disgraceful. . doesn't seem they take much interest in their careers. at least maddie got a full album unlike laine who only got 3 lousy songs.. i pity sam who will turn up to be their next victim. but happy for dillon who will be their success story coming next season..

Regarding the bold, that is the main reason why S8 was such a let down to me. I think that season had some of the best talent in the semis out of all the seasons (I'm still contemplating whether or not to list my favorite semifinalists, so I won't mention any names for now). we finally found something to agree on! but actually you can say it about almost every season. yet with the format of season 8 it was more obvious.

and a few notes: 

season 8 was one of my fav seasons just because the amount of talent was immense. however, a lot of that talent was eliminated in semis like jesse langseth. still the finals was dominated by 1 and only adam lambert. this set still don't hold candle to him it terms of talent. the one weird stuff on that season is simon's dislike to any bird song that megan did.. 

both skylar and didi had potential that was never realized during the season. and explains why we never heard of them again. didi's best performance came during hollywood week with terrified and the semis with rhiannon. the bummer was that she was eliminated just before beatles week.. on a side note i liked her for the only reason she's half israeli from her father side (her name was kind of a given) but it was never mentioned on the show.

(Laci was a country singer who only sang two country songs on Idol: the Jackson duet with Laine (speaking of whom, I guess the show was spoiled by the couples the previous season that they tried to force another one with Laine and Laci.  The problem was Laci already had a boyfriend and I believe Laine had a girlfriend) and The House That Built Me)

- This finalist always seems to finish 2nd no matter what (Clay was 2nd on Idol, The Celebrity Apprentice, and running for office )

- This finalist certainly didn't lack a vital organ(referencing Kris singing Heartless during Top 3 Week)

HOW DARE YOU YOU PUT HIM SO LOW!!? he should be in the top 10 of idol of all time. both idol royalty and one of the best singer on that show ever. I understand that it is a love or hate thing with him but I loved him and his performances. the only thing that bothered me was the overpraising that sometimes came over others who where worthy as well. not winning idol eventually helped  and benefited him. the others on that list don't hold candle to him!!

sam deleted her entire posts from instagram. the few pictures are not related to idol. she doesn't follow anyone. and no id picture. weird.

based on some videos and pictures some of the contestants posted it looked like all three were close friends and hang out together. but seems they don't keep in touch anymore. 

all the rest wrote or posted something which was really nice and showed they are still close. 

what is going on with sam instagram account!? 

I don’t follow her but I happened to see her page today and she has no profile picture and only 7 photos. Only one post was American Idol related and nothing music related. Seems kind of strange to be the most recent winner of American Idol and have a random/limited collection of posts. also she doesn't follow ANYONE at all not even the other contestants!! she hardly ever posts or communicate with the others as well. 

just noticed that almost everyone from season 18 congratulated Dillon on his new record deal except sam, arthur and jonny. wonder what is up with them not able to show some support. at least dillon took his time to thank everyone personally.

5/5 on the guesses! As for the commentary, I'll focus on two:

 

065. Yep, his older brother Marque (who is also no longer with us...) was a semifinalist in S3. In fact, you could see Michael in the audience clapping after Marque's performance.

062. Yeah, I remember how the show, especially Simon, treated him. I could see why they wanted him to go in that direction musically; however, if that's not who Michael was, they were bound to clash. I agree about him not really fulfilling his potential and how his death hurt more because of it.

didn't watch the semi finals of that season. only from top 12 or 10.. and frankly i already knew fantasia won so it was just watching the fantasia show.. 

as for simon's comment for michael i think it was rude of him to even say it and waited for an apology that never came. too late to ask for now..

065. Michael Lynche -  Had a sibling who competed in an earlier season. his brother was a semifinalist on the 3rd season. and thank you wikipedia for that bit on information! 

064. Kimberly Caldwell -  Dated an Idol winner. she used to date with david cook.

063. Janelle Arthur - A song title that may or may not fit this finalist. she did dumb blonde by dolly parton. is that why you wrote it? 

062. Michael Johns -  Hopefully, the last one for a long while... let's hope he'll be the last one as well. damn he was my fav on season 7 and i wanted him to win badly. his early elimination still stings especially the way he was treated on the show and that ugly comment from simon that he doesn't know who he is. michael knew very well who he is and what kind of artist he was. a blues/rocker. but they already had david cook in that box so they tried to steer him to a pop/soul direction that wasn't him. and they clashed. i loved ALL his performances. his voice was ten times better than both the davids. i kind of wish he played his guitar on the show and maybe he would have lasted longer. his dream on was a surprise as it was the first time aerosmith allowed one of their songs on the show (the asteroid song don't count because they didn't write it) and it was one of the best performances that week. his death hurt even more because he never fulfilled his potential. but i still listen to his pre idol music once in awhile. 

061.  Sarina-Joi Crowe -  An early end after a journey of perseverance. after 4 years auditioning she finally made it to the live shows only to be eliminated too early.
