  1. In case you haven't seen them live yet, or just want to see them again: they've announced some tour dates for the summer. Check their site at https://www.girlnamedtom.com/events to get the tickets. Looks like it's mostly around Montana, North/South Dakota and Oregon for this dinner your so far. I think they haven't had too many dates in those states yet, so it's good they're headed there.
  2. They've posted a live acoustic version of Get a Little Lost on Youtube: I love that they're doing these versions. They did the same for What a View and their Xmas originals. As with the other songs, this version of GALL to me is way better than their official release, though it's still not one of my favourite songs. Any post production on their official releases just takes away from the songs, imo. If all of their future songs would use this setup, I'd be happy.
  3. Lol, I had never heard that version. It's one of my all-time favourite songs and I would love, love, LOVE for GNT to cover this. I think it could be as good as Helplessly Hoping. Often, I prefer GNT's covers to the original (I rarely play Fleetwood Mac's the Chain anymore since GNT's guitar trio cover), but a cover of this would happily co-exist with the original. Somehow I feel that if GNT had written this song instead of Paul Simon and brought it to the label, they would've binned it and said 'we don't like this song, try again'. Out of their newest originals (at least new in 2023, not 2022), Tell the People is easily my favourite. I've heard it live a few times early last year when they were still experimenting with it. For instance, they didn't have the repeat of the last line in yet. Bekah said that she wanted it to have a bit of a Joni vibe, which it does. I love that the chorus changes lyrics (which seems to be simply not done in modern pop) and that the whole song tells a story with meaningful lyrics. That's one of their superpowers I think, and what made the 60's and 70's music so great. It's similar for my other favourite GNT originals (Roses, for instance, has some beautiful lyrics and also doesn't feel like it follows the typical boring modern song structure). But I think the record company wants modern, predictable, upbeat, easy to put a label on, something that follows the known structures. Which is something I've heard GNT (or Bekah in particular) say feels disheartening to her about current pop music on the radio. I keep wondering how much creative input they truly have. I'm curious which songs they'd pick for an album if they had total freedom and didn't worry about whether or not the label experts would approve or think it would sell well. Just the songs they prefer and stories they want to tell. Maybe the track listing would line up fairly well with the label, or maybe it would be completely different
  4. Thanks for the video Wim. I do like Get a Little Lost quite a bit better than What a View, though it does share a similar vibe. Other than that, it again feels quite generic and contemporary poppy and certainly not their best. I can name probably 10 original songs from their 2022 &2023 live shows that I'd prefer over this one. But it's not bad and it is catchy. I also hope it won't get the Disney post-production treatment, but judging by their other releases, I expect that it will. Maybe they'll again post an acoustic version like they did with What a View. Then that'll be the best version for sure. I know that before What a View they've pitched a good number of songs that were all rejected. I'd expect those pitches were songs they played during their live shows. At that time, every song in their setlist was great or amazing, so I can't help but wonder if they're pushed by the label into this vibe. However, if putting out these singles is necessary so later this year we can have an album with all the top songs, then that's great. Either way I'm happy for them that they're at least able to release something
  5. I have seen those before, it can be cool sometimes. But it's not necessary to delete older posts for that. I think the idea is that their entire page is now fully focused on their new single, with their new vibe or something. Often done too when an artist reinvents themselves. Or at least it was a number of years ago, I think Taylor Swift made headlines doing this once and then everyone copied her. For me these days it's 9 times out of 10 just a sign that the marketing team needs to be replaced as they've run out of original creative ideas. Unless GNT really do want to start fresh and reinvent themselves and break away from their current identity as a loveable, relatable sibling harmony trio. I think this strategy can work for some of those artists that really try to create and maintain a sense of mystery about them, but that's the opposite of GNT so I'm worried that it could backfire and alienate some of their non-GenZ Instagram fans, of which they have quite a few.
  6. I don't understand the rationale behind removing all of your interesting content. If I wasn't already a fan and would instead visit their page now as a potential fan, I definitely wouldn't follow them. They had so many posts showcasing both their personalities and their harmonies, now there's nothing. But anyway, it's exciting that they're releasing some music. And their website has a new entry for 2024 that suggests more is to come this year. Maybe finally an original album after all? One can hope
  7. They just posted that on March 8th they have another single coming out, "Get a Little Lost"! Still not an album, but at least they're able to release something original again. A little after they posted this, they've also seemed to have deleted nearly all their Instagram posts, there's only 15 left now. I don't know if that was a mistake or if they got hacked or if there's some marketing idea behind it that's completely incomprehensible to me.
  8. True. I'm not convinced Republic is aware of what GNT fans like, or that they really care to know. What a View to me felt more like trying to get GNT to be like any other pop group, while fans enjoy them precisely because they're not like anyone else. At least not anyone from this century I think usually these contracts contain a minimum number of records to put out before they can leave without paying a fine, right? Looking at the artist list on Republic and their music style, GNT seems like the odd one out. I'm sure they'll consider their options
  9. Yeah, they're on their Christmas tour now. Looks like they have a cool decor on stage. A little while ago they posted on Instagram that they had said there would be new music soon and that was the plan, but Republic was delaying. They didn't provide any details really, just that after What a View they had expected to release something else by now (a new single I think, or maybe even an album), but it didn't happen and they were working on it with Republic, but didn't have a green light. I wonder what their agreement with Republic was as they had apparently told fans at concerts that something was coming very soon. But then Republic I guess changed their mind? They have previously also indicated that the label kept rejecting all of their songs until they pitched What a View. It's great that they did release that single and the xmas album, but it does seem quite a struggle to get anything else released.
  10. For those of you who prefer physical cds, you can now order their Christmas album from their website at https://girlnamedtommerch.itemorder.com/shop/home/
  11. Thanks for that, I'll have a listen to it later, sounds interesting! They also just announced a Christmas tour. Tickets will go on sale soon, check their site for dates. So they have their own tour rather than supporting Pentatonix. I wonder what they'll sing, as their Xmas album doesn't hold enough songs for a full show. Yeah, my favourite GNT is still easily the acoustic one, mostly even without drums or bass (as those have always been overpowered in the live shows). All of this producing and polishing and making it more 'professional' also strips away some of the things that make GNT special. What a View has been out for a bit now, I wonder how it's doing for them. I've only checked Spotify, but that shows as just over 20K plays, which is a lot less than I was expecting it to have so far. They have nearly 70K monthly listeners on there, I would've thought a good chunk of those would listen to the song at least once, many maybe a few times. But it seems most people stick with the Helplessly Hoping kind of songs. EDIT: Just listened to this acoustic version and I agree. I think in this one I would've preferred Bekah's voice to be a little louder, but at least we get to hear those sweet harmonies. In the official version, Caleb and Josh were moved too far into the background for my taste, more like backup singers to Bekah rather than harmonizing as a trio. And I love Caleb's guitar playing on this. I prefer this sound to the official one where the acoustic guitar nuance gets lost in the overall band sound.
  12. I'm really interested to see the kind of music they'll be releasing over the coming years. Having this contract is great, but I can't help but wonder if this is what they would like to release or if they have a different vision, but Republic simply doesn't agree. Honestly, I would much rather see them have full artistic free reign as some of my fav GNT songs were written without any help from cowriters.
  13. I'm so happy for them that they've got new music out, hope it does well! I'll be playing it a bunch, for sure. It is very cheery and bright, kinda feel like it should've come out at the start of summer instead. It's also very catchy and the lyrics are good. For me personally, the feel of it is a bit too generic current century pop though. I'd love to have songs that are more emotional, a more 60's/70's vibe meets the now, and more pronounced harmonies (rather than it feel like Bekah with 2 interchangeable background singers). Songs like Waters, Roses, Tell the People. Those are the kind of songs that give me chills every time and those are the ones to me where GNT truly shine and that are instantly recognisable as GNT songs. But it's still a catchy song and cool video, I'll be playing it a lot until their album drops and some of those other songs will take over.
  14. https://www.instagram.com/p/CwDRhsSgXPT/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== GNT will be performing at the Hana Hou festival in Hawaii on Sept 9th. The proceeds go to support Maui. There is also a Livestream available, tickets through hanahoufest.com Depending on where you are located, the time zone might work for you. Tickets run at $50 I believe, but part of that goes to help the community there. I probably won't be able to make it due to the time zone, but it looks a cool lineup! It includes Jake Shimabukuro and Mick Fleetwood
  15. Yes, that was the one I meant, thanks for posting it! I think maybe What a View is a little newer, so they haven't performed it live very often yet. I'm also expecting virtually all of them to be on the album, I wouldn't know which ones to leave out. I'm hoping California does make it, that's been a top 5 for me ever since I heard it last year. I don't know that a song wholly from another writer would make sense, I would think they'd at least want some input. But who knows. Another 60's/70's cover of definitely welcome. Their 3-guitar cover of the Chain was amazing! Having heard most of these songs live, it'll be interesting to compare the studio versions to these live versions once the album drops
