Yeah I noticed that 💀 He kind of undersold her audition and just flat out did not like her Hollywood week performances. Wonder if her doing Ain’t No Wé next round will be enough to impress him.

While I admit that I really liked We when she was on The Voice, unfortunately, I'm not enjoying her nearly as much on American Idol. And that's because to me, anyway, it seems like she is coming across as someone who is trying a bit too hard and I'm having a hard time getting behind her because of it, despite her singing ability.

This is going to be an interesting season. There’s a lot of people who I think would be THE front runner on past seasons, and having them all competing against each other this season will inevitably result in some early shock boots. I can name several people right now who I think should make the Top 10 and I’m sure not all of them will.

You’ve got the ones that seem like a sure thing like: Iam, Colin, Haven, Tyson, Elijah, Wé, Marybeth, Oliver, Olivia

And then you’ve got people who could truly emerge as a dark horse like: Emma, Matt, Hannah, Lucy, Megan, Kaeyra

Ugh, it’s gonna be such a good season. We might get a crappy winner but I think I’ll enjoy it either way.

I agree with you about this as well. I just hope we really get a decent winner this time around.

Very early to say but I think this is the best group of semifinalists since Season 11. Not one dud in the bunch from what I’ve seen so far. Emma and Hannah really won me over tonight, and Haven is starting to grow on me as well.

I definitely agree with you about this. Initially, I wasn't really feeling some of the talent this season. But, after the first night of Hollywood Week, I think I'm actually looking forward to the rest of the season now. And I think the talent might be better than I gave some of them credit for.

He is definitely not a lock to win the show. If your basis is the last 2 winners, then perhaps so. However, the statistics of his audition on social media and the way the edit portrayed him do not scream a "lock" to win. I won't deny he is a contender though.

I am also confused at how the tornado hitting his hometown is an advantage? People in his hometown aren't going to be worrying about watching him perform on American Idol when they are mourning the loss of loved ones and their homes. I'm not sure how widespread the damage was, but it could result in both him and Zachariah losing votes from hometown supporters depending on how long it takes to recover.

I really hope you're right about him not being a lock to win. But, I'm very skeptical about that at this point in time. The way Idol is coming across to me this year is that TPTB at Idol have completely given up hope of anyone other than a WGWG winning and are just rolling with the punches, which I think is a real shame. But, it is what it is when it comes to Idol these days. And I feel the tornado that, unfortunately, hit his hometown will most likely result in even more of Idol's core audience supporting him this season. I honestly wish I was wrong about this given how much I've enjoyed Idol over the years. But, I doubt it as of right now.

A tornado has ripped through Amory, MS. I pray that Colin & Zachariah and their families are okay.

Look, while what happened with the tornadoes in Mississippi and other states in the South was absolutely terrible and my thoughts and prayers are with the people affected, I just am concerned as an Idol viewer who would really like to see a different kind of winner this year, that the tornado that occurred in Colin's hometown will result in him being even more of a lock to win than it seemed like he already was. And if that's the case, what's the point of even watching the rest of this season?

I lovedddd the Judge's Song Contest as well! It was fun to watch the contestants choose between the songs they were given and guess which Judge picked each choice. Definitely one of Idol's best creative choices in the ABC era.

I am not a fan of Disney Night just because it feels like it's been run through the ground at this point. It would be fun if they could switch it up and maybe do Disney duets or group performances rather than a whole night of solo Disney performances.

Even though I didn't love some of the song choices that the Judges came up with for the contestants to sing/potentially sing, I, too, really enjoyed that episode last season overall and would love to see them do something like that again.

And I could do without another Disney night as well. All I ask is if they must do another one, can we at least hear songs sung that haven't been covered yet before on Disney night? There are plenty that still haven't been sung that the contestants could cover.

  7. Unfortunately, I really can't make any song suggestions for the Viral TikTok Songs theme since I'm not familiar with songs that have gone viral on TikTok at all. However, I have given some thought to what the contestants might want to consider singing for the Mother's Day dedication theme. I hope whatever songs they pick to cover haven't been sung to death already. And it seems like the more heartfelt the Mother's Day dedication songs are, the more the voters seem to reward the contestants for singing them. Some songs Leah, Nicolina and HunterGirl might be wise to consider covering are I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachlan, Before Your Love by Kelly Clarkson, a stripped down version of Fighter by Christina Aguilera, Need You Now by Lady A and Perfect or Just Give Me a Reason by Pink. Perfect by Ed Sheeran, Treasure by Bruno Mars, All of Me by John Legend or maybe even Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots could be good songs for one of the males to cover.

How many of these are repeats? And why did no one choose a song from Encanto?

I believe 8 of them are repeats, with several of the songs having just been covered last season. And I don't know why no one chose a song from Encanto. I certainly think a contestant would have been wise to.

“When She Loved Me” will be a beautiful moment for Leah. I wanted Maddie to sing this on her season!

I really love Leah and think she will do a good job with the song, but was really hoping she would sing something different since Casey did such a good job covering it just last season.

I think that Nicolina, HunterGirl and Emyrson made the best song choices for this week. And I don't think Lady K's choice is too bad, either. We'll see what happens, though. And thank you m1key for posting the song choices. I really appreciate it.

  10. Here are some of the songs I feel the contestants should consider singing for Disney night:

Leah - Some Things Never Change from Frozen 2

Emyrson - Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas or Speechless from the live-action version of Aladdin

Noah - Son of Man from Tarzan

Jay - Dig a Little Deeper from The Princess and the Frog or Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins

Christian - I've Got No Strings from Pinocchio, You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly! from Peter Pan, Whistle While You Work from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Hakuna Matata from The Lion King or You're Welcome from Moana

Mike - The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy from Toy Story 4

Fritz - Lost In the Woods from Frozen 2

Lady K - Almost There from The Princess and the Frog

Nicolina - Beauty and the Beast from one of the versions of Beauty and the Beast or The Place Where Lost Things Go from Mary Poppins Returns

HunterGirl - I agree that she'll probably sing Life is a Highway from Cars. But, if she wants to switch things up maybe Touch the Sky from Brave or Spirit from the live-action version of The Lion King could work as well. Spirit could be a good song for Nicolina to sing, too.

And I agree with others that if songs like Remember Me and the Circle of Life have to be sung, at least if contestants that we don't expect them to be covered by sing them, it might make things more interesting.

  11. I agree with others that Noah and Fritz are most likely going to make the top 3. I just hope Leah can be the female that makes it to the top 3 instead of HunterGirl. Although I certainly realize that might be wishful thinking. I think the next 4 contestants that will be eliminated are Mike, Jay, Lady K and Emyrson. I think Nicolina might finish 6th and Christian 5th. Once again, I just hope Leah can beat out HunterGirl for 3rd place. And ultimately, I think Noah is going to win. Although, I do wonder if whatever female makes it to the top 3 could benefit by Noah and Fritz possibly splitting votes.

I know some people were saying Allegra should cover No Time To Die but after Katy's comment tonight about Emyrson soundling like BIllie, I would love to hear her cover that song.

I wouldn't mind her covering that song, either. I just hope if she does, that it will be better than Cassandra's performance of Writing's On The Wall was last year.

If Tristan makes it past Disney night, I need him to sing Radar Love by Golden Earring.

I think that would be a good song for him to cover as well.

  13. Thanks for persevering and writing up an analysis for why each of the 6 contestants who were eliminated last Monday lost according to the rules you feel contestants need to follow if they would like to be as successful on the show as they possibly can be. I continue to enjoy reading your analyses. And I think you should consider adding a new rule to the ones you feel contestants need to follow if they want to do as well on the show as they can. And that is to believe that he/she belongs there, which I feel some of this season's contestants have definitely struggled with. Meanwhile, I feel it is just so hard for contestants to be memorable these days. And if they aren't the type of contestant the typical AI voter generally backs, I feel it is such an uphill battle for them. I believe a contestant really needs to come up with a new arrangement of a well-known song and sing the heck out of it or do something almost completely unexpected, like Leah did last week, if he/she is the type of contestant that the AI voter doesn't normally back and he/she wants to be remembered in a positive light.

I agree with all of this. It makes me upset that THIS season is getting the longest/best format of all of the ABC era when other seasons could have benefited more from it. I also don't watch much TV anymore besides AGT, DWTS, and Idol, everything else I use my phone to watch lol.

I'm just wondering how you feel about DWTS moving to Disney+. Do you think you'll end up subscribing to Disney+ to watch it? Because I think there's a chance Idol might end up on Disney+, too. And right now, I just can't see myself becoming a Disney+ subscriber just to keep up with Idol.

Meanwhile, my unpopular opinion is that I actually really enjoyed Jay's Wild Card performance. I know how he performs definitely isn't for everybody, but I felt like I finally understood what he's about more after that performance. I realize that he's most likely not long for the show though now after having to be saved by the judges.

  15. I've come up with even more songs I think some of this season's contestants should consider singing. I'd really like to hear Tristen cover something from James Bay like Hold Back The River or Ophelia from The Lumineers. Singing one of Kaleo's songs could work out for him as well. I think he might also do well covering Shivers by Ed Sheeran or Beggin' by Maneskin. I think Jay could also do a good job covering both of those songs.

I think Jay might be able to do a good job covering Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, Happy by Pharrell Williams, and either Cry Me a River or What Goes Around...Comes Around by Justin Timberlake, too.

I think Ava could do a good job covering a song from The Pretenders, like Brass In Pocket or Don't Get Me Wrong. I think Love is Blindness by U2 might be a good song for her to sing as well. And how ironic would it be if she were to cover an Ava Max song, like Kings & Queens.

I believe Emyrson might be wise to cover a Lorde song, like Team, Issues by Julia Michaels, Just Like Fire by Pink or Killing Me Softly With His Song by Roberta Flack.

I think Complicated by Avril Lavigne, Sweet but Psycho by Ava Max, Never Be the Same by Camila Cabello, Fancy by Iggy Azalea, Shiny Happy People by R.E.M. and Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis could be good songs for Leah to cover. She might be wise to consider covering a song by Maggie Rogers or Jessie Ware, too.

I believe Nicolina should consider covering god is a woman or Problem by Ariana Grande, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, Nothing Breaks Like a Heart by Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus, Wishing On A Star by Rolls Royce, Flashlight or Who You Are by Jessie J, Yesterday by The Beatles, These Dreams by Heart or Part of Me by Katy Perry, if she'll allow it.

I continue to think HunterGirl should cover Meant to Be by Bebe Rexha feat. Florida Georgia Line. I also think she could do a good job covering I Hope by Gabby Barrett or I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift.

Christian might be wise to cover Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, or It Will Rain or When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars.

I think Always on My Mind by Willie Nelson might be a good song for Mike to cover.

Who's Laughing Now by Ava Max might be a good song for Lady K to sing.

I think Allegra should consider covering New Americana by Halsey, Habits (Stay High) by Tove Lo, Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper or Say Something by A Great Big World, Christina Aguilera.

I also think Symphony by Clean Bandit could be a good song for one of the females to cover if they could sing it in a lower key.

  16. Once again, I just wanted to say thanks for writing up your analysis for why Scarlet lost, according to your 7 rules contestants on the show ideally need to follow if they want to do as well on the show as they possibly can. I agree with everything you wrote. I wasn't a huge fan of Scarlet because it didn't seem like she had a good sense of who she was as an artist. Plus, as you pointed out, she made such a bad song choice. Song choice really is so important if a contestant wants to do as well as he/she possibly can do while on the show. Anyway, thanks once again for sharing your analysis regarding why Scarlet lost. And I really hope you'll keep sharing these types of insights as the season continues.

  17. I just wanted to say thanks for writing up your analysis for why Sir Blayke lost, according to the 7 rules you listed in that thread that contestants ideally need to follow if they want as good of a chance as possible to do well on the show. The main issue I had with him is that I really wasn't able to get a good sense of who he was as an artist. Plus, as you pointed out, his story just wasn't quite as compelling compared to some of the stories that some of the other members of the Top 24 have. Anyway, once again, thanks for writing this analysis up and I really look forward to reading more of your analyses about the contestants as we get further along into the season.

  18. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading other people's song suggestions for the contestants. And once again, I definitely think they would be wise to give some consideration to singing some of them. Anyway, I now have even more song suggestions for some of this season's contestants. First off, I would really like Nicolina to give some consideration to also singing My Funny Valentine by Ella Fitzgerald, It's All Coming Back to Me Now by Celine Dion and one of the renditions of Beauty and the Beast.

I'd really like Lady K to consider singing Damn Eyes by Etta James, Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, Superwoman by Alicia Keys and Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys.

I think HunterGirl should give some consideration to singing Meant to Be by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and Love is Blindness by U2.

I believe Cadence should give some consideration to performing I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton and some Jessie Ware songs.

I think Elli should consider covering some Ellie Goulding or Colbie Caillat songs.

I feel Stars by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals might be a good song for Sage to sing.

I think Leah could potentially do a great stripped down version of Creep by Radiohead.

I'd love to hear Leah or Fritz cover I've Got No Strings from Pinocchio for Disney night.

I think Fritz could do a decent job performing something like Unwell by Matchbox Twenty.

I think Man in the Mirror could be a good song for Christian or Jacob to sing.

That's all the suggestions I have for right now. And I'm sorry that I love making song suggestions as much as I do, but I just don't want to see a contestant shoot themselves in the foot because of a bad song choice. And I've tried to provide some song suggestions for the contestants that I feel haven't been too covered to death already.

Allegra, Sage, Ava, and Elli are all gonna have to really kill it this round to survive a 6 person elimination. I’m not sure if any of them can. 😐 I really don’t see Dan making the Top 14. I think he just got lucky that Scarlet picked a horrible song and Danielle was so boring. Cameron will eventually wear on people’s nerves if he doesn’t take himself more seriously.

As an early guess just for fun, I predict that the 6 people going home are: Ava, Allegra, Dan, Elli, Sage, and Cameron. I won’t be shocked if Jay leaves either.

What about Lady K and Mike? I definitely think they could be in danger, too, especially if they don't make smarter song choices.
