I think that it would be more unfortunate for Megan than for We if Colin made the finale since I think that Megan's in more danger than We.  But I really hope that he doesn't, mainly because he's so much weaker than Iam and Megan, let alone We.

I'm really not sure if Megan is in more danger than We, given that Idol's core audience might find her to be more appealing than We. But, I agree with you about Colin being weaker than Iam, Megan and We and that's why I'd really like to see Warren or Oliver outlast him, if possible.

Idol is not going to want a Voice alum win their show.   They are also not going to have 2 Voice people in the finals.

They are also not going to alienate their Country base and not have a Country singer in the finals.

This is why I'm continuing to hope that somehow, someway, Warren or Oliver can finish ahead of Colin. Because if one of them doesn't, I don't think there's any way that Colin doesn't make it to the finale, which would be so unfortunate for either We or Megan.

  3. I'm definitely quite pleased that American Idol has been renewed for 2024. I still would really like to see one of the networks try to launch a new singing competition based on The Masked Singer concept, however, since I think a singing competition like that could be so interesting to watch. And I wonder if all of Luke, Lionel and Katy will be returning as judges on AI for 2024 as well.

Definitely a step up for Alanis from her last judging gig!

I guess I'm one of the only people who didn't entirely hate Alter Ego. I know it wasn't great, but I thought the concept of the show was at least somewhat interesting. I just wish one of the networks would try to launch a real singing competition based on The Masked Singer concept so badly at this point, given how fascinating I think it would be to watch. And there are a couple of ways I feel a show like that could be done. The contestants competing could be introduced and then, they could start donning the masks. Or both the judges and the viewing audience could be in the dark when it comes to their identities, which would actually indeed make a show all about the voice for a change. Heck, at this point, though, I'll just take some type of The Masked Singer theme night on Idol. I believe it would be so interesting to watch a The Masked Singer theme night on Idol.

  5. If any contestant sings Purple Rain by Prince, I really hope it will be Lucy. I really do think she could do such a good job covering that song. And if Oliver is going to sing a Bruce Springsteen song, I think Secret Garden may be a good song for him to cover. I think Treat Me Right by Pat Benatar could be an interesting song choice for Nutsa, Lucy, We or Megan. And I keep on thinking that Colin might be able to do a good job covering Dream On by Aerosmith, Sail Away by Randy Newman, or I Love L.A. by Randy Newman. I think Blackbird by The Beatles could be a good song for Warren or Oliver to sing.

i wanna see some actual rock songs, some of the ones suggested are just pop songs which isn’t bad but yeah

i’d like dream on, crazy on you, alone — i know they’re overdone but a strong cover especially of the first or last would be a big moment

Especially if a male could successfully cover Alone. Now that could be somewhat interesting, given that I've never heard a male cover it before.

I know that Kaya was the daughter of a member of the Eurythmics.  I felt sorry for her (and Fire) when she had to withdraw due to illness.  But thanks for telling me that the song was eligible.  Now I need to know if anyone from the Top 12 can do "Sweet Dreams" justice.

I think We probably could do "Sweet Dreams" justice. And it would be a bit of a surprising song choice for her as well.

  8. This might be an unpopular opinion, but thus far this season, I've actually really appreciated some of the song selections that the contestants have made more than I thought I would have. I love some of the songs that Warren, Oliver and Iam have covered this season. I just hope they'll keep on selecting songs like that to cover heading forward.

This Sunday's episode is themed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! 365 artists have been inducted to date. Which artists do you predict the Top 12 will choose to sing?

    https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/a-z

I'm really hoping the Top 12 choose to sing songs by artists that haven't been covered to death yet. I hope some of the remaining female contestants look to sing songs by Madonna or Janet Jackson instead of Whitney Houston. I'm almost sure some of the contestants will end up singing songs by The Beatles. I think Iam could do a good job covering Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles. And I wouldn't be shocked if We chooses to sing one of the versions of I Put a Spell on You. I've been thinking for a while that Haven might be able to do a good job covering Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. And I think Colin could do a good job covering Daniel by Elton John or Riders in the Sky by Johnny Cash. I think Oliver could do a good job covering (Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. And I think Warren could do a good job covering Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd or Mary Jane's Last Dance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Those are just some thoughts I have as of right now.

Olivia performed later and I thought she did a better job with her song than Elise did.  Also, Olivia's audition wasn't montaged like Elise's was.

I thought Olivia did a better job with the song she covered than Elise did as well. And I definitely think she knows who she is as an artist more than Elise does, too. But, I still don't think her song choice was the best and really hope she'll do a better job of selecting songs to sing for as long as she's on the show.

Elise also performed first and her song choice might have been questionable.

Unfortunately, I agree with you about Elise's song choice having been questionable. I'm just happy that Olivia made it through despite her questionable song choice as well.

  12. I'd really like to hear the following songs sung by the following contestants:

Warren - Mary Jane's Last Dance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Kiss from a Rose by Seal and Over the Mountain by Ozzy Osbourne

Iam - Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton, Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin, Powfu - death bed (Lyrics) feat. beabadoobee and Payphone by Maroon 5 Ft. Wiz Khalifa

Olivia - Let It Be by The Beatles

Nailyah - Any Time, Any Place by Janet Jackson

    Bumping this thread.

What's everyone's unpopular opinions as of now?

I actually find myself possibly wanting to see Warren win, especially given how much I appreciated how he rearranged Set Fire to the Rain. Also, I'm just not getting the love that other people seem to have for Emma and Paige. They're good singers, but I'm just not really feeling them at all.

Some tea from Futon Critic! 🍵 The theme for the Top 12 performance episode is "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night" Makes sense since Lionel was recently inducted.

I'm totally here for this theme, but the last time they did it (Season 10) was when the infamous Pia Toscano robbery occured... hopefully that's not a bad omen!

Thanks for sharing this information. I really appreciate it. As someone who loves to make song suggestions for the Idol contestants, I'm already trying to figure out what songs I feel might be good for some of them to sing. I just hope most of them will choose to sing songs that haven't been covered to death already. If they do, though, they better sing them as well as they possibly can and put their own unique spin on them. Also, if we must hear songs sung that have been covered to death already, would it be asking too much for a male to cover a song traditionally sung by a female, like I Will Always Love You or for a female to cover a song traditionally sung by a male, like Man in the Mirror? At least it might make the show feel a little bit fresher.

Me too.  Chayce and Noah had more sympathetic backstories and that helped them win.  Colin doesn't seem to have it.  I think that Colin will get farther than he should, but winning?  Not so much.

I forgot about Marybeth.  I think she'll make the Top 5 along with We but I don't know if she'll do well enough to make the finale.  Still, she has the country vote behind her and if she gets past Colin, she could make the finale instead of him.  Or she could get past We, but I think either We gets there without Marybeth or they both get there.  But as Bugs Bunny has said, "I could be wrong, you know."

I wouldn't discount female contestants like Lucy, Olivia, Haven, Hannah, Megan and Kaeyra having the chance to possibly make it to the finale as well. In fact, I think Megan could stand the best chance of making it to the finale out of the female former The Voice contestants.
