How do these rankings/contestant placement compare to your own personal preferences/enjoyment/critique of these performances?  How does the same compare to that of the coaches/comport with their coaching decisions?  Does your own subjective taste line up more with the YouTube consensus opinion (a little less country-skewed/more casuals + more impartial music lovers) or more with other social platforms like FB (greater minivan concentration)?

If I've made any errors, please kindly LMK. I'll post a ranking breakdown based on likes shortly.  In the meantime, do discuss.  Cheers and thank for looking!

There’s honestly nothing too shocking there.

Just data to be interpreted, my friend.  For those interested in how the vids are being received by a fairly large sample of possible "casuals" (amongst others) vs. the minivan supposed "core" audience, this might be interesting, maybe?  I don't post for shock value, lol, do you? 😎 Mainly, I'm interested to see where my favs place on the list, which is why I made it.  Where do yours place, and how do you feel about their placements?  Care to share? 😊

I think it mostly correlates with how I would expect them to be received. There may be some mild outliers, but nothing worth splitting hairs over.

Without splitting hairs, just out of curiosity, would you like to share those outliers?  I'm about to share my own thoughts and observations on the placements in a hot minute or so.  Feel free to share your thoughts on those as well.  Maybe we'll actually agree on some things! 👍😎

Warning! : Spoilers discussed!

Nothing too shocking here, just some casual observations, based of the groupings:

- For Group A (YT favs), clearly Team Niall has done the best here, by far.  Out of 8 vids (12 contestants), Niall dominated and will head into the playoffs with an impressive 6 contestants (his whole Top 24 team!) from this elite grouping.  Additionally, he picked his S/save, save and steal at #4, 6 & 7 respectively, so ostensibly, these were all good picks.

- John and Gwen did reasonably well.  Without looking beyond the Top 24, John does boast the #1 placement.  That's his only representation though. Gwen has 3, 2 at #8, plus a high pick at #3 (the highest among the coaches) for her S/save.

- Reba picked well with her steal at #6, but otherwise, has no other representation among the YT favs.

- Note: Chechi (Team Gwen), is the only contestant from Group A to be eliminated at this stage. So, for her fans, this perhaps bolsters the argument that she maybe should have been saved. My own opinion is that she should have been stolen by John (he had given her a lot of specific constructive criticism through the rounds, while simultaneously lauding her, so I feel he was in a good position to coach potential improvements in her).

- For Group B (the B-list), several contestants in this group are, imo, actually fairly well positioned to break out and into the top level of contenders (especially considering the eliminations to come).

- John, once again, has the top entry in this grouping, at #9.  He also has 2 others here, for a total of 3. Notably, Niall's ONLY eliminee of the entire list placed respectably, at #11.

- No coach selected a "pick" out of this middle grouping (except for John's save at #12), opting instead for lower placed contestants.

- Reba fans, fret not! Team Reba is well represented here (3, with 2 progressing to the next round).  Ruby (#10) and Jacquie (#13) may have middle of the pack view totals, but they do have impressive like percentages (more on those later), so that bodes very well for them moving forward. Imo, they both do look poised to advance to the top grouping in the next round, should they expectedly maintain consistency.

- For an admittedly "middling" looking team, Team Gwen actually doesn't have anyone in the middle of the pack group. 🤔😎

- For Group C (the underdogs, or very dark horses), Niall wins again, because he has no one here!

- Teams Gwen, John and Reba are tied with 4 members each in the bottom grouping.  Gwen picked her steal from this group at #19.  John scraped the bottom of the barrel (#26) for his steal, and picked his S/save at #17.  Reba chose her save at #16 and her S/save at #24. So, in all, 5 coach "picks" (steal, save or S/save) hail from this bottom grouping.

I mean, Lennon is too high, but he made John cry. Jacquie could be a little higher, but she’s a 37 year old female country singer. Most of the outliers can be easily explained.

Agree that Lennon is too high.  The delivery live in the room must have been quite something, but it somehow didn't translate fully to TV, or maybe Lennon just lacks the telegenic x-factor, for me anyhow.  In any case, I expect him to drop down the rungs considerably, once likes are factored in.

As for Jacquie, apparently quite a few here on IDF think a 37-year-old female country singer is a lock for the finale, and some even fancy her to win.

But, you were asking whether we agree with the YT rankings. I stated that Jacquie should be higher. The reason she isn’t is because YT, and the audience in general, doesn’t typically support contestants like her. I  do not think she’s a lock for the finale, but she may have a better chance than she would have on previous seasons. Blake would have put her up against Worth The Wait, she would have slayed them, and he would have chosen WTW as the winner anyway.

No, I actually agree with you that Jacquie should be a little higher. I also fully expect her to rise higher when likes are factored in. As a matter of fact, I think she was in one of the best battles of the season, and followed that with one of the better knockout performances.  If you don't think she's a lock for the finale, then would a younger, country male version of her be?

I think Huntley is a lock for the finale.

I think Kaylee would have been too.

That’s about as far as I can go with “locks,” although Ruby is probably close.

Ruby Leigh of Team Reba shoots up to #3!  Country represent, as Jacquie and even Kristen surge too! Kaylee holds strong at #2 (impressive, given the length of time her vid has been up). Okay, maybe not too shocking, rather a tad surprising, BUT Kara Tanea at #1?  This can be explained to a degree by YT's mechanics of limiting likes to one per unique view as a function of repeat viewing over volume and time, which means Kara's like percentage WILL dilute and drop over time (ditto others, e.g. Kristen). But still, even at this stage, that IS a healthy likes percentage that puts her at #1 for the time being, so has IDF been sleeping a little on Kara, maybe?  Personally, even on Team Gwen, I have preferred RUDI over Kara, but does Gwen know something I don't regarding the popularity of 90's R&B (I mean, see Stee at #4, Deejay at #5, etc.)?  Maybe YT just loves it's R&B a lot, and FOLK (vs. Country) a lot LESS (Lila and Lennon plummet into underdog territory).  In the meantime, dark-alt-pop-rock princess Nini holds on to a spot in the Favs grouping, despite the R&B and Country surge.  Conversely, I expected Huntley to have been "liked" more (was Claudia/Noah such a drag? Personally, I don't think so), so how do we explain his drop to #19 on this list?

p.s. - I think it'll be interesting to combine both ranking lists, part 1 + part 2 (i.e. views totals + likes percentage), and see what results that will yield.  Hopefully, a consolidated playoffs ranking that will somewhat minimize outliers and anomalies (hopefully!), so I'll work on that next.

—-

The short answer is yes.

Kara also only has 154K views. I suspect the videos with higher view counts are more likely to generate multiple views, further diluting the likes percentage. As for Kara, she’s going to need to do something really special to have a shot at the top 8, and I just don’t see it happening.

From that top group, only Kaylee, Nini and Ruby are in the top 10 in views.

Agreed.  I could see Kara doing well (but well enough?) with more 90's R&B favs, maybe En Vogue for the playoffs, and then something super famous, sing-a-long-ish, like "Waterfalls" by TLC, for the Top 12.  Those are "dream" choices though, and she'd still have to absolutely slay, with no margin for error.  That's how good this season's frontrunners are, so yeah.  Anyway, I've more or less finished the final YT ranking/grouping list, which combines views + likes, so I expect that will paint a clearer picture, with less anomalies.
