  1. My first thought? This isn't a story that warrants using all caps in the thread title.

My father doesn't have hunting dogs, but wild hogs have invaded his land at times over the years. Relatives in Texas have the same problem. These destructive animals are common in parts of the U.S. "Feral swine have been reported in at least 35 states. Their population is estimated at over 6 million and is rapidly expanding."

According to this 04/16/24 article, seven people have been killed by wild pigs in 2024.

  2. excerpt from Lyndsey Parker's recap:

Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery, who performed on American Idol tonight, just became a member of the Grand Ole Opry — and I could see Will, who Katy affectionately nicknamed "Big Mo," receiving that honor one day. He's such a natural, it's impossible to believe that he's only been doing this for four years and has only really focused on music professionally for less than a year. "Perfect song, perfect performance, and that big note at the end was probably the best thing I've heard you do all season," Luke told Big Mo.

I was referring more to the power ranking she did this week.

Ah. I was concentrating on MJ's comments rather than the actual ranking. She's already wrong about that, because she has Kayko second and he's gone now. But she did predict "at least a Top 5 finish" for Will, and Kayko's elimination basically moved Will up to 4th. 😉

    MJ is delusional.

I think she's alluding to the "effortless" thing you mentioned, how consistent Will's performances always are, and the fact that he seems to be relaxed rather than nervous.

With it being a judges song choice they can bus anyone they want with the song choice plus position singing and not have to say a word. I wonder where Mia's votes will go? She is total country so most likely Will. Emmy has been trying to not be country so i wonder if the judge who gives her a song gives her a total country song or not.

The Judges' Song Contest tradition started in season 20, when the judges chose songs for the Top 11. Each judge suggested a song for each contestant, and the contestants chose one of the three options to cover—supposedly without knowing which judge recommended it. The judges were awarded a point each time their song was picked. At the end of the episode, the judge with the most points saved one of the bottom contestants from elimination.

In season 20, Lionel had three points. Katy and Luke tied with four each and saved Lady K. Tristen Gressett was eliminated.

In season 21, the contest was used for the Top 10 episode. Lionel and Luke tied with three points each, while Katy accumulated four points. She saved Oliver Steele. Marybeth Byrd and Tyson Venegas were eliminated.

I'm interested to see the song suggestions for this season's Top 8. It would certainly be possible for the judges to bus a contestant or contestants with bad song choices, but hopefully that doesn't happen.

  6. excerpt from Mark Franklin's recap:

"From the opening note, I knew this was going to be special. I wasn't disappointed. That was the best performance of the night so far. Country rock works very well for Will. He even flashed a couple of smiles during the course of a fun, uptempo performance. Luke called the big note at the end the best thing he's done all season. Katy and Lionel praised the performance too. It was praise worthy. Grade: A (It's the only "A" Mark gave tonight.)

  7. excerpt from MJ Santilli's Top 10 rankings article:

Will Moseley is the most laid back of the contestants. He seems to be MOSEYING along to at least a Top 5 finish with his soulful country and rock infused performances. Does this guy ever break a sweat?

MJ mentioned in her recap tonight that Will is lucky to be in a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" situation. She also gave him credit "for delivering the chorus with urgency."

In his TVLine recap, Andy Swift called Will's performances "excellent" and added that he's "already a country powerhouse."

In the GoldDerby live blog, Denton Davidson wrote that Will is "easily one of the safest bets to sail into the finale."

  8. Yes, I saw after I posted.

Good guess! I'm sure he'll tell the story well.

The song's lyrics don't help Will, but the theme didn't provide him with many good options for this episode. I think he needs an emotional ballad and a "moment" soon.

  9. I like this ballad, which was released on 04/18/2000 and became Creed's only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Scott Stapp wrote the song after learning that his wife was expecting their first child, so the lyrics aren't a perfect fit for Will.

I’ll tell you what tripped me up in that. It reached #1 in 2000, and I was focused on those songs.

Considering it’s been less than 3 months since he passed away, I think he could do well with any Toby Keith song.

TPTB probably won't be too strict about exact release dates matching the year of birth.

Yes, the fact that Toby is a popular country singer and died in February after a struggle with stomach cancer could help Will or another contestant who chooses to cover one of his songs tonight—regardless of the lyrics.

One of my favorite Toby Keith songs is "Should've Been a Cowboy," but it was released in 1993.

The only 2000 popular country song I can see working for Will and fitting into 2 minutes is, “How Do You Like Me Now.” By Toby Keith. It would be his 3rd mid to uptempo song in a row. He regularly covers Toby Keith.

According to Wikipedia, it was released on 11/22/99 and is about Keith's attraction to the beautiful valedictorian of his high school. While it's a popular song that was nominated for Single of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2001 Academy of Country Music awards, I've never liked it. I didn't think of a 2000 song that's a better option for Will, but I hope he has a good one.
