Those song choices and some of the decisions she has made are examples of why brand new coaches usually struggle. They don’t understand how the show works. I’m surprised someone from the staff doesn’t help advise her on some of these things.

I assumed Ariana would understand how it works since she says she's watched The Voice and has "been a huge fan of the show for such a long time."

Social media can be decieving, but since these stats are all we have, I'm going with it.

I think it would have been wise on Peedy's part to change it up. Maybe go acoustic or sing a ballad, but at this point I suspect TPTB is forcing him to keep the Elvis image, since he has said in a Hollywood Junket interview that he wanted to show more of himself instead of people just having an Elvis connotation.

Either way, I think few people here would have expected to think that Paris has a good shot at being Blake's male dog this season.

I agree that Peedy is unfortunately going along with TPTB regarding his Elvis persona onstage.

The Voice posted that tonight's Wildcard will be voted on the app and the website. No mention of Twitter.....yet.

I don't expect TPTB to change the Wildcard voting method. However, a Twitter Instant Save later in the lives is a definite possibility if it becomes necessary to ensure Ariana has a finalist.

The second PV is not between him and Peedy tbh. Paris is def a lock, his facebook numbers are so high. Wendy and Peedy are the ones competing for the 2nd one but I think Wendy will get it over Peedy.

I think we have to take into account the entire season—not just last night's numbers. Wendy has been a frontrunner on Team Blake from the beginning.

  5. Wendy should be Team Blake's first PV tonight, and she should easily advance to the finale. Based on viewer comments about last night's performance, a winning strategy moving forward might be songs Wendy feels a personal connection with lyrically rather than songs that prove her vocal skills. I hope she gets a chance to show her storyteller and emoting ability on a country song with wide audience appeal.

And Wendy Moten continues her march toward The Voice season 21 finale. It would be a travesty if she's not in the mix, and even Kelly says so. Although, I'm a little surprised Wendy hasn't leaned into her country background a little bit more by now. I'm not complaining — she nails the Whitney Houston version of this ballad with ease, it's no wonder she got the coveted last spot of the evening. And in another great moment of Blake really repping for his team, he tells Wendy that in all of his 21 seasons on this show, "there's no one that I want this more for, ever, than you." That's so nice!

Closing out the night is Team Blake's Wendy Moten. She's about the only singer I can imagine coming close to singing this song justice, but she doesn't quite get there. It's a little bombastic and lacking the head voice Whitney gave it, but the coaches are still going wild. Kelly says it will be insane if Wendy doesn't make the finale. Blake says he's been doing this show for 21 seasons and there is nobody he wants it more for than Wendy.

From the blinds, I got the impression Voice producers have picked Wendy as the most likely first black female to win The Voice. Monday's pimp spot sorta backs up that suspicion. With a nice a cappella opening and plenty of vocal firepower, Wendy didn't disappoint here. But the song choice was a disappointment. And Monday's live playoffs showed it might take bigger risks to win Season 21. Grade: A--

NOT taking a big risk tonight, is Wendy. She’s performing the Whitney version of the song. It shows off her powerful voice. Yup. She can sing. But her playing it safe tonight is disappointing. Kelly is OBSESSED with the “gifted” Wendy. Blake declares that he wants her to advance more than he has any contestant in 20 seasons. In other words, if she doesn’t make the cut, he’ll pick her to advance.

Wendy Moten closed the show with a performance of "I Will Always Love You" that blew the roof off. Clarkson said it would be "insane if you don't make it to the finale," while Shelton said he's rooting for her more than any other artist he's ever coached.

It will come as a shock to absolutely no one who has ever heard Wendy that she absolutely slayed her Whitney Houston cover — to the point that her coach admitted that he wanted a victory more for her than he ever had any other contestant. But I’m sticking to my guns; Wendy’s a goddess, no doubt, but I still found Samuel more compelling. Grade: A

Well, damn. Wendy closed the show in fabulous style, even nailing that iconic a cappella intro. This wasn't a particularly original performance, but it was classic.

My prediction: America will vote for Wendy and Lana, Blake will pick Paris, Peedy will sing for the Save.
Blake Shelton surprisingly plays favorites on 'The Voice' playoffs
Reigning, incumbent coach Blake Shelton's team performed last, and it was at the very end of the night that Blake made a bold statement about his clear favorite, veteran pro background vocalist Wendy Moten — seemingly not caring if he alienated his other team members or even the viewers at home. After Wendy (whose first song of the season had been declared one of "the top three Blind Auditions of all time" and "one of the best vocals I have ever heard on this show" by Blake) stunned with a faithful, tasteful rendition of the Whitney Houston version of "I Will Always Love You," Blake once again raved about his frontrunner. "I'll probably catch a lot of heat for it, but I don't care. I've been doing this show for 21 seasons now as a coach. There is nobody I want this more for — ever — than you. You deserve this. You deserve this," Blake told Wendy in the final few minutes of Monday's episode.

A 56-year-old 20 Feet From Stardom type who scored a respectable solo hit in 1992 with "Come in Out of the Rain" and has worked with Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, John Oates, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Tyler, Alice Cooper, Buddy Guy, Michael Bolton, Michael McDonald, and Al Jarreau, Wendy certainly has been waiting for her much-deserved moment in the spotlight. And it's doubtful that her coach's audacious proclamation will backfire with voters, because she really was that magnificent this week. Even Blake's chief rival, Kelly Clarkson, has to agree, gushing to Wendy: "I'm obsessed with you. You are so gifted. That is such a big song. Don't think I missed that little run you did. I was like, 'What?' You're so incredible. It's insane if you don't make the finale."
Surely Wendy will advance one way or another. If in some crazy upset she doesn't get the votes, Blake will surely put her through as his pick. And if she actually has to sing for the Save, she'll easily slay competition.

Relistened to Wendy's PO, and here's the thing:

Vocally it was great, no doubt, and she obviously held back to deliver it, but I wasn't in love with the arrangement. It felt waaaay too relaxed for this song. Dont know why she moved her head away far from the mic on the first "And I" part either lol. And the second, which is supposed to be bombastic, didnt do it for me.

I've seen her sing this song on other stages and she absolutely bodies it, so this left me wanting more.

That being said, it was a smart song choice that will get her to the finale likely.

The comments about "screaming" might have bothered Wendy more than she admitted and caused her to hold back tonight.

In this high-pressure playoffs round, none of the twenty performances were flawless.

  8. ET 11/08/21:

The Voice kicked off the season 21 live shows on Monday, with incredible performances from the top 20 singers. However, they may have saved the best for last with Team Blake Shelton's Wendy Moten, who brought the house down with her rendition of "I Will Always Love You," earning a standing ovation from all four coaches.

"I'm gonna say this, and I'm probably gonna catch a lot of heat for it, but I don't care," Blake raved of the performance. "I've been doing this show for 21 seasons, as a coach, and there is nobody that I want this more for, ever, than you. You deserve this."

Kelly Clarkson agreed, noting, "You are so gifted. That is such a big song, and don't think I missed that little run that you did... You are so incredible, it's insane if you don't make the finale."

The defending champion from season 20, Blake certainly has the clout to help Wendy towards the season 21 finale, though all of the returning coaches admitted that they're looking over their shoulder at first-timer Ariana Grande.

  9. Entertainment Weekly recap by Maggie Fremont:

If you remember one thing from this performance remember that Peedy Chavis commits. He's got the Elvis look down for these Live Playoffs and he really goes for it with this song. It's maybe not the best song choice for him, but he's putting on a show regardless. John praises Peedy's energy, his star power, and the fact that he so effortlessly is a "presence on this stage." Coach Blake reveals his own mother said she was voting for Peedy before she even saw the performance. So maybe remember that, too: Moms love Peedy Chavis!

Yeah, usually Bekah plays piano, Caleb the guitar, and Josh the cajon. They'd deliver a killer performance with that setting.

I put Caleb as my main prediction though since he has been taken care of the instrumentation so far.

True. They're a very musical family. Their dad plays guitar and drums. Their mother sings in choir. GNT told interviewers that they started taking piano lessons at age 9 and then learned to play other instruments. So all three can play piano/keyboard. Caleb and Bekah play guitar. Bekah also plays the flute. Although Josh usually plays the cajon, I wouldn't be surprised if he can play guitar too.

They probably will as well. (Caleb is the oldest GNT brother, in case y'all don't know)

Samuel won't be playing anything since he was asked about it in the live with David and said he'll probably do it on a later performance if he advances. (He'll switch with David if they both advance appaently, David won't play an instrument later and Samuel will).

I know Holly plays piano and Raquel and Peedy play guitar, wonder if they'll whip them out. Paris plays the drums but that won't happen on the show lol. Don't know if the others play any instruments.

All three GNT siblings play instruments, so maybe Josh or Bekah will play next.

Right? I'm LOL at people acting like you can overcome laryngitis with a positive mindset LMFAO. I doubt any of the singers mentioned had to sing with it at its worst phase because it's physically impossible. Hopefully Sasha will be feeling a bit better by monday.

Hopefully. Sasha is active on social media, and mentioning laryngitis should cause fans to vote for them regardless of Monday's outcome.

  13. From team power rankings posted 11/05/21 on MJsBigBlog by Blake Busch (who follows The Voice and American Idol) and linked in the IDF spoilers thread:
    1. Wendy Moten – She is the only artist who I feel clear about on this team. She is the veteran who will be ready to perform. She can and will make nearly any song choice that comes her way work. Her knockout generated more buzz than her previous performances, and she is Blake’s ringer this year. Plus, I wouldn’t be shocked if she pulls out her country card soon to show that she can sing more than just R&B and soul music.

Yeah, but I think that it's lame that you have to wait a whole week to see them.  They let their daytime shows be available the very day they air, but you have to wait a week for their primetime shows?!  What kind of sense does that make?!

Yeah, waiting a week is the annoying part.
