yeah i def agree they close with strong performers. i wonder though whether it’s correlation and not causation though; like are they just closing the first live show with a performance that’s sure to be great? or are they legitimately trying to pull the strings to get said contestant far?

You could probably make the argument for both, but while closing may not necessarily always equal pimping, I would think closing performances are typically more of a "moment" type performance than most if not all others for that particular night. Song choice matters a lot, especially in crucial weeks. Playoffs in particular are most often the weakest night of lives, so if one contestant that TBTP has clearly given good treatment before closes the playoffs with a good song, it makes them stand out significantly and gives them heavy momentum that will possibly carry them to the finale.

They don't always close with someone that they've given much pimping to, but if you're talking about playoffs in particular, there's a reason we've had 8 playoff closers in a row make the finale. Even if the performance isn't perfect, the overall pimping at that point seems to be the biggest part of it in my opinion.

generally trust ur judgment lol but not sure i buy this? bc iirc they’ve been going by chair order for a few seasons (please correct me if i’m wrong i’m unsure), so that would mean that for this theory to be true, the producer favorite would always have to be on the leftmost coach’s team (aka blake’s team until he leaves).

They only went in chair turn order for the past 3 seasons, and all closers (Cam S20 Wendy S21 bodie S22) had the most pimping overall of any contestant from their respective season.

Look at the previous playoff closers from S14 onward: Britton, Kennedy, Dexter, Katie, Todd, and John H. I'm pretty sure all of them (sans Dexter and maybe Todd to a lesser extent) had pretty strong pre-live pimping, and some of them had good pimping during the lives too. All 8 of these contestants made the finale, and 2 of them went on to win the entire show, with 3 more as runner-ups.

Maybe it's not super clear cut, but I feel like it's pretty easy to see TPTB's favorite just by who closes the playoffs. It's not going to be a perfect metric, but I don't really think there's a perfect metric to judge.

Edit: A Blake contestant ended up being pimped the most 3 seasons in a row.

She was probably never winning looking back at it. Maybe she was only 2nd in votes on Semis night, Bodie was likely 3rd.

So they switched to see if Bodie could take it home if Morgan couldn't do it on her best day. Had him open and go near-last on Finale night with a Christian song, see what happens then.

Oh yeah, Morgan was never winning. S22 was Blake dominated all the way through, and that should have been obvious the moment the coaches were revealed (I mean, you have 2 coaches that the core demo hates and a newbie who the core demo INSTANTLY hated). Especially when TCO was on Blake's team and didn't even end up winning because of country singers being overpowered with the voting demo.

Looking back, I think Morgan's ceiling was always 3rd place. Maybe her finale performances cost her, maybe they didn't, because she certainly made things interesting with her breakout semis performance (which I think had most of IDF convinced she was winning, myself included). However, with all the momentum she had, it didn't even get her top 2 in the end. Hell, until semis her Facebook stats were worse than bodie and Bryce by a pretty large margin (and despite a lot of people from what I saw saying that FB mattered less, in nearly all cases this season it matched with the results perfectly, so imo it's still the only reliable way to judge results.)

Idk how unpopular is this, but Morgan was never the TCO. It was bodie.

Also, hopefully we can finally throw the "Vote splitting theory" where it belongs: into the trash.

Morgan had pretty good treatment in the prelives too (leaked audition who opened the premiere, last battle on first FULL episode of battles, and was in the first episode of KOs). Problem is that bodie had three leaks (pimp spot in episode 5 and opened the KOs). And when you look at the live shows, it's pretty clear who got pimped more (both got late performance slots pretty much all the time but closing playoffs signifies the producer's favorite, I think).

In addition to the end of "vote splitting", I think casual votes also don't really decide things at this point; I highly doubt Bryce would have won if casuals really did decide things. Then again, he's the countriest country to ever country, so maybe his Minivan support was so strong that nothing from casuals was ever taking him down. I wonder if Minivan got spooked on seeing him not get PV in playoffs and did everything in their power to make sure he didn't end in the bottom again (not like he was ever gonna, but getting a death spot with a song choice that people thought was a bus and CRUSHING Facebook probably said it all. That's probably where he won, tbh). And if you're thinking casuals carried bodie to the finale, it's because Blake pimping will carry ANYONE to the end.

  6. Finale Facebook reacts 3 hours post-show:

    1. Bryce (ballad): 9.3k

    2. Bryce (uptempo): 6.7k

    3. Omar (ballad): 4.3k

    4. Omar (uptempo): 4k

    5. bodie (uptempo): 3.9k

    6. bodie (ballad): 3.4k

    7. Brayden (ballad): 3.3k

    8. Morgan (ballad): 2k :dead:

    9. Brayden (uptempo): 1.6k

    10. Morgan (uptempo): 1.4k*

    Totals:

    1. Bryce (15.9k)

    2. Omar (8.3k)

    3. bodie (7.9k)

    4. Brayden (4.9k)

    5. Morgan (3.4k*)

Morgan's uptempo has an asterisk because hers was deleted on FB about an hour after it was posted. It had 4.7k reacts when it was taken down. If it was left up as is, it would have likely been the 2nd highest reacts overall. I wrote down her numbers at face value, but her totals would be a lot higher otherwise. Feel free to ignore that number when looking at the standings, because aside from the numbers as they look now, that's what I'm doing.

bodie has had middling FB numbers all season, and the casual votes will push him in the top 3 for sure. Brayden and Omar are done.

Morgan had great numbers on her uptempo before it was taken down but her ballad numbers are LOW. Her high reacts on her first performance will help her make the top 3 (and maybe top 2 if she's lucky). It might be good with casual votes.

Bryce is dominating, and there's no stopping him. It seems like casual votes barely mattered this season. Blake's boys just got a boatload of votes because of Blake, and it was enough for 3 finalists and likely the win. Casuals would not be voting Bryce, but his minivan appeal is so large, it won't matter. They should have never said S23 was Blake's last season until after this season ended.

    Nah… Morgan is winning.

Mmm... no, she's not. Bryce ran away with Facebook all season, and even though last week Morgan put up a strong fight, you wouldn't be able to tell based on this week. Even when you factor in her deleted performance doing well at the time, she's so far behind overall and isn't catching up.

FB might have been less of an indicator this season on paper, but the numbers still nearly always match up perfectly to the results. They really do give the results away, in most cases.

And fact of the matter is that Bryce has done literally nothing to stick out from previous country finalists. Like, what did Bryce do that people like Kenzie Wheeler or Jake Worthington not do? Why does Bryce win when people like Jake and Kenzie don't? Their runs were near indistinguishable, even with an overlapping song in a rare case. You would think that Bryce would join Kenzie and Jake in 2nd place with that regard, but he's been dominant on FB all season and him needing the wild card in playoffs was a fluke.

    - 4?

    Super Bonus Question

Time for another “Guess the song choice” challenge! (if you get the song right, 100 points; if you only get the artist, 30 points)

Example: Justin Aaron - Unholy (Sam Smith feat. Kim Petras)

I've never been good at these so what the heck. Omar Jose Cardona - You Will Be Found from Dear Even Hansen

  9. It's probably Morgan's to lose at this point, tbh. Only a few contestants are near her on FB, and her biggest competitor still got less votes than someone not in Minivan's lane. Granted, it was weeks ago and things have changed but it doesn't change what happened. That implies casuals are still who drives the show, and Morgan's likely gonna be #1 in votes this week.

  10. T8 Facebook reacts 3 hours post-show:

    1. Bryce (4.9k)

    2. Morgan (4.2k)

    3. Omar (3.6k)

    4. Brayden (3.5k)

    5. Justin (2.8k)

    6. Parijita (1.7k)

    7. bodie (1.6k)

    8. Kim (1.5k)

Morgan will probably be the top Facebook performer of the night, and I think bodie will pass Parijita too.

This season has seemingly had a lot less of a Facebook impact than in the past, based on a lot of different factors. However, based on these I think I can pencil in Bryce, Morgan and Omar as PVs , and Kim and Parijita are gonna be in the IS.  The rest is a crapshoot. Brayden's got the highest numbers but casuals likely favor bodie a lot more, and bodie got PV over Bryce in playoffs with the casual vote. The 4th PV is looking to be very interesting, but because of Blake, it'll probably be Bryce or bodie depending on who has better support.

It should also be noted that these numbers are too low to base predictions entirely off of, as is likely the norm this season, but seeing the overall social media reception for the top 3 is pretty hard to ignore, especially when even with lower FB numbers overall, the results have mostly been consistent (with a few exceptions, but the numbers won't be perfect).
