No one has given me any thoughts on this yet, but I’ll try again. So Benson is suspected to make top 24 right... but he is NOT in LA like the other contestants????? THOUGHTS PLS

he is with lead singer from Imagine dragons in Las Vegas (tik tok)

Just saw this. I think he will be catching up with the rest in LA 🙂 Usually there are contestants who arrive later than the others.

I completely agree with everything you said. I really like Benson Boone a lot too.

My worry is that Benson and Beane are competing for the same votes, but hope they can go far. Usually contestants with the same genre or vocal style tend to cancel each other out (like country vs country - I'm guessing only Caleb Kennedy or Cecil Ray will make the Top 12).

also the judges comments this year are more critical the older the contestant is.

I notice that too. I wonder who they'll be critiquing more during the live shows, whether they're older or younger. They'd usually critique the fodders especially in the early stage - those contestants usually don't advance. Even with the audiences voting, the comments can easily influence the voters.

The ages of the first 3 ABC idols on the day they won are 20, 18, and 21. It’s not like the older contestants were dominating.

I think Nick Fradiani was the oldest winning contestant on the show (if we include the FOX seasons). He was 28/29 that year. But yeah ABC wise, the winners are within the age range you mentioned.

    8. WYATT PIKE

He’s good but I’ll have to hear him sing a cover before I call myself a fan. It’s hard to judge with these original songs. He reminds me of Sam Woolf for some reason, maybe his looks? But I’m kinda digging his Bob Dylan vibe.

    7. MARY JO YOUNG

Speaking of current and marketable singers, this girl may be the most relevant singer this year. Definitely in the vein of Julia Michaels and Halsey.

Enjoyed your early review. Mary Jo definitely has a relevant sound. She also reminds me of Birdy and Ellie Goulding in her delivery style.

I agree that Wyatt is good, and while we need to hear more covers from him, this is a great cover he did on his Youtube. Very John Mayer-ish.

The guys on the other hand, I think there are too many indie, singer-songwriter types and some are bound to cancel each other out.

I agree with your analysis and predictions, and I see that happening with the guys, especially the WGs. Beane is in a league of his own though with his vocal range and techniques, so I hope he'd be able to make Top 12. From the indie guys, Wyatt has something special in my book, and I hope he can be one of the guys who advance.

They could have them in groups of 12 each night. It'd be a bit of a busy show, but I could see something like this being in the realm of possibilities:

Split them into two groups of 12 (or do it by gender if it's a 12/12 split). Have the 12 solo performances all happen in a row, then while we're still voting, do 6 duets to give us some leeway for votes to be cast. At the end of the show, announce who's advancing.

I wonder if they'd do it by gender. Thought that format really worked in the Fox seasons (except the last one). Looking forward to finding out the direction they're going with this year.

I think they just happen to have the same last name. :haha:

Clark and Nick Fradiani commented that they like him on the American Idol instagram page 😋

Anyway, I'd love to be added =D
