There are two issues at play on this matter: the SC ruling called "Roe v Wade" and whether abortion should be legal (and up to when, among other conditions). The poll you cited didn't ask about Roe v Wade, but whether abortion should be allowed to some extent, or not.

As you have stated in a previous comment, overturning Roe v Wade does not automatically make abortions illegal. Overturning Roe v Wade is removing the unconstitutional legislation from the court. Overturning Roe v Wade is removing the imposed legislation of a group's "morality" on the entire country, a court ruling that overstepped the authority of State legislatures, and nullified existing State laws.

Legislation, or making laws, should be done by the legislative body of government or the Congress, be it US Congress or State Congress. The court should not be making laws, like they did with Roe v Wade. IF this SC overturns Roe v Wade, the issue goes back to the States where it should be addressed (10th amendment).

Some states are more liberal than others. But even the restrictions (heartbeat law, up to 15 weeks) imposed by some states still allow for exceptions. These laws do not totally outlaw abortion. It just makes it harder to get abortion on demand, or abortion for convenience, or abortion because the baby is a burden, or abortion as contraception, or other rationalization for abortion.

As to the actual act of abortion, it is an act of violence against a little human being who does not have a voice and say in the matter. When shown with the video on how abortions are performed and that the "clump of cells" actually look human, many so-called pro-choicers changed their minds.

Pro-abortion people changing their minds after watching a video about abortion:

    The abortion video they watched:

The "clump of cells" at 20 weeks --

Over 60 million babies have been killed in the womb since Roe v Wade was decided by the Supreme Court in 1973. The good news is, abortion numbers have declined over the past several years.

    https://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics/

Less than 1% of abortions are due to rape or incest, and less than 8% are due to health of baby or mother. Over 90% of abortions are elective.

    Percentage    Reason
    <0.5%    Victim of rape
    3%    Fetal health problems
    4%    Physical health problems
4%    Would interfere with education or career
7%    Not mature enough to raise a child
8%    Don't want to be a single mother
    19%    Done having children
    23%    Can't afford a baby
25%    Not ready for a child
    6%    Other

Right but you said Americans are pro life. Majority of us believe restrictions should be placed on third terms  (Though tbh most late term abortions are for medical emergencies. It makes no sense to go through the hell of pregnancy for six, seven eight month and then have it all be for nothing) When you meant pro life you meant against virtually all instances and that is not the case.

Some of these laws the states are introducing are insane. Louisiana is effectively making birth control illegal. You can get charged with homocide for taking the morning after pill. This is like Islamic territory level stuff.

The loud minority and the media gaslighted many corporations into thinking the liberal agenda is the majority opinion. Especially when conservative voices are censored. A PR firm has to actually inform them that America is pro-life, despite what the media and the left says, and that many on the right are now fighting the woke agenda by voting with their wallets. Go woke, go broke is not just a slogan.

A solid majority of Americans are satisfied with Roe v Wade. I'm pretty sure you actually know this but want to legislate your morality.

  3. I wonder why a lot of these companies are getting into social issues the past few years. It doesn't seem to be a winning strategy and the people in high places in these companies are hard core capitalists that love money.

Like I'm far from American conservative or MAGA and I didnt need to identify more with the orange m and m and did not ask for the Green m and m to be less sexy. I dunno if anyone really did.

During March Madness I kept on seeing commercials for trans women in sports. Like...I dont think that's really gonna catch on with the audience

It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do. Whatever outlet first leaked the story just look through their phone records and see who they were talking to

I guess if MS goes further than that, and someone doesn’t like it, they can move. 🤷‍♂️ That’s the beauty of having 50 states to choose from.

Poor people just cant up and move. And even middle class need more than a few weeks to do so.

Also... if conservatives dont like public schools they can home school or send their kids to public/charter schools who needs the parental rights bill?

    Oh darn...

You can get an abortion in MS up until the 15th week, according to their new law that is at SCOTUS now…same as the one DeSantis just signed. Why are Democrats so desperate to protect late term abortion? It’s not even one of my top issues of priority, but that should be a no-brainer.

Do you really think MS, the quintessential Bible Belt, state would stop there. I trust Florida to--maybe. Although Iowa has a heartbeat bill and that's not bible belt either

As to your last point, Clarence Thomas’ wife is white. Take a deep breath.

I'm just saying I could see them trying it. Not that it would work

Whatever you want to believe about the "groomer" thing. If I was a teacher I would not put a student in that situation. If that makes me a groomer then so be it.

This was never a thing like two years ago. I highly doubt the school system has changed much since I was in public school let alone in the past 2 years. Just red meat for you minions

  8. Ah so now its clear to me what this weird and sudden uproar about talks of gender and sexuality in schools entails (Btw, that bill also tells teachers they must out a student and not hide a student's gender identity/sexuality from parents)

Its because Republicans know banning gay marriage is little more controversial in right wing circles than abortion access. The "parental rights' bill is to turn the tide of public opinion against the LGBT community. After this goes through they will set their sights against gay marriage next

There may be even some movement to try to leave interracial marriage to the states too but I dont think that would fly

If you want rent controls, you could always move to CA, NYC, D.C., or Cuba. CA and OR are actually the only states with statewide rent control. It’s illegal in FL, and you’re not going to get that law overturned, even with a Democrat Governor.

“Raise wages.” Sorry, that’s just not a serious policy proposal to solve the problem of rising housing costs.

Higher food prices. I don’t even how to respond to that. Food prices are higher everywhere, and it’s just not as simple as “grow more food.” The Florida Agriculture Commissioner is in charge of that, and happens to be a candidate for Governor. Ask her why she hasn’t solved that problem.

I’ve also heard that corporations are buying up Florida properties, and sitting on them. That is obviously contributing to the supply/demand problem, but I’m not sure how you could stop it. Some of these states people are fleeing need to do a better job, for starters.

That is true that corporations like Blackrock are buying up whole neighborhoods. They could put a stop or a limit to that.

No raising wages wont lower housing prices. But it will help those that are struggling to pay rent make ends meet and could push someone over the top to home ownership down the line. Better public transportation could also help especially with the rising gas prices

Something needs to be done and Desantis doesnt care- I'm j ust sayin. I'm a single person middle class and if I renewed my rent for a basic apartment things were going to get tight in the next couple years at the rate things are going. I was just lucky enough to get a good deal on a property and got a fixed mortgage. But many aren't so lucky or dont have the resources saved up for that. Metro Tampa/St Pete has a huge homeless problem and  We actually had the highest homeless population in the country for a while until the Catholic diocese built a large shelter.

Supply and demand. Lots of people want to live there, because of his leadership, and are fleeing the dumpster fire blue states, which drives up housing prices and rent. What would you like him to do? Elect a Democrat, turn Florida into a shithole, and perhaps housing costs will go down.

EDIT: BTW, the headline is deceptive. The article is specifically referring to Miami, where most of the New Yorkers are fleeing to, to get away from that hell hole.

I live in a suburb of Minneapolis. My home value has increased by about 40% in less than two years, because people are fleeing Minneapolis and driving up the prices in the suburbs. A house a few down from mine sold in two days this week, and I thought they were crazy for what they were asking.  And it’s not as though the Minneapolis market is even suffering that much, because young people are buying those houses (in the neighborhoods that aren’t total dumpster fires) and driving prices up.

Another factor - a lot of people with families and small homes or apartments are now working from home, some permanently (often a couple both working from home), and needed/need more space.

There's definitely things that can be done. Put a cap on percent of rent hikes. Rent is going up 25 percent yearly or even more. I know long time Floridians that are being forced out of the metro and even suburbs and forced to redneck land where there are few good jobs

You can also raise wages. We still have southern wages and prices aren't southern

We also have some of the highest food prices in the area and there's no excuse for it in a climate that has plenty of sun and rain. There's no need to continually have to get produce from South America.

    I could go on...

Also, lots of bad news for Democrats here:

Any Republican up for election who doesn’t run on these issues deserves to lose….

Support for anti-grooming laws transcended both party and ideology, according to the poll results. Fifty-nine percent of Democrats and 69 percent of self-described progressive liberals said they supported anti-grooming laws that protect elementary school children from being forcibly exposed to sexual topics by school employees without parental consent.

On the issue of transgender sports, 69 percent of respondents said it was unfair to force female athletes to compete against male athletes who identify as transgender and claim to be women. Majorities of Republicans (74 percent), Democrats (63 percent), and Independents (71 percent), as well as majorities of self-described conservatives (74 percent), moderates (69 percent), and progressive liberals (65 percent), said they believed it was unfair to force women to compete against men who claim to be women.”

That's a bad idea if you are going to be in charge of a supposedly non biased, politically charged social media like Twitter to post your political beliefs. It really calls into question you're objectivity. Not that I would trust a billionaires ethics and morals to be doing this for the right reason anyway.

For decades, I've seen the left take cultural ground and push the overton window on social issues further left, as the GOP "leadership" refused to fight in that arena ("It is not the hill to die on") because they didn't want to be called bigots and racists. They focused on economic conservatism (yea right, 30 Trillions in debt) and national security conservatism (muh "War on Terror"), and every time a conservative runs on traditional values, pro-life, pro-secure borders, energy independence, pro-2A, pro-freedom agenda, the GOP leadership stays silent when the left and the media attacks the conservative politician.

Now that a handful of Republicans are finally fighting back on cultural and social issues, especially the ones involving kids and their education, and women's sports, they're just creating a distraction. The cultural clash is bound to happen. I say bring it on, let the cultural fight happen, and let's find out where the majority of America stands on the cultural issues that actually affect their everyday life.

Oh please . I'm old enough to know conservatives for the first decade of this century used anti gay marriage as one of their main if not main rallying point. The social stuff goes back even as far as Nixon and the civil rights movement

Even if you disagree with gay marriage or trans genderism I really don't see how it affects your day to day life. At the worst, some wacky teacher some where might hypothetically convince a kid their trans when they aren't. Hanging your hat on something like that is Biden saying he should be re elected just cause he let like 5 trans people join the military.

I just don't get the I think something is unethical so it should be illegal.Im vegan and generally speaking I think eating animal products is wrong. Does that mean all animal farming should be outlawed?

Do you folks think that Macron winning re-election is a sign to come for November? He had a low approval rating but there are people who refused to vote for Le Pen. I know there are voters who refuses to support a GOP candidate despite not liking Biden.

France is more liberal than most of America.

Although from what I've heard of La Pen she is actually quite a bit worse from Trump as far as beliefs go. She wanted to even ban Muslims from wearing the hijab in public which is pretty gross

Here's one perspective about the efforts of Dems to prevent Marjorie's reelection:

    https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2022/04/22/the-desperation-of-democrats-surfaces-in-effort-to-block-ga-representative-marjorie-taylor-greene-from-reelection/

I can't blame the democrats for trying to disqualify Marjorie from running again; they can't defeat her on the ballot box, they try other means. But the GOP leadership and the RNC not defending her is inexcusable. Makes you wonder if they're in on it too.

Point is the right's leaders engage in this culture war and cultural conservatism because its a distraction and they have nothing else of substance to offer people in every day life. On top of that, many times times they dont adhere to the values they even espouse. #Grifters
