As talented as Justin Bieber is, I can’t realistically see him being a judge for the show. He doesn’t have much experience as a musician. He’s a big international pop sensation, but that’s about it. If this is to get back at The Voice for getting Ariana Grande as a coach for their next season, it will go completely haywire. At least with Ariana, while she is one year older than him (she’ll be 28 in June), she’s not only known for being an international super star. She has experience doing theater, being an actress, being successful with Christmas music, etc. Also, if they are keeping the original three judges and are just adding one more, the next choice should be a female singer to balance out the judge’s table. With Demi Lovato’s relatively new album Dancing With The Devil... The Art Of Starting Over coming out and being reported as the biggest female pop album debut of the year and already having experience judging a singing competition, in my opinion, she would make a better alternative to have on American Idol.

When I think about what female judges the show could get that would actually offer useful and constructive feedback as well as rival Ariana Grande in star power, Lady Gaga and Demi Lovato come to mind. Demi has proven to be a great singing show judge and does not hold back. The only problem is she just released an album and will probably want to spend the time on tour. Lady Gaga would be an even better choice. Shes one of the biggest superstars in the world and also has experience in many areas of entertainment. She has also been a guest mentor in the past, I can definitely see her giving great advice. A lot of people mentioned Adele. While I think she's a great singer, I dont think its the right time in her career to judge a singing show.

  3. As a huge Disney fan, I hope Disney night never goes away. I don't think they will ever get rid of it because it is the perfect corporate synergy. However, It seems like they choose from the same list of 20 Disney songs every year. Here's hoping they will get to do some different Disney songs this season. I don't need to hear "Colors of the Wind", "How Far I'll Go" or "You Got a Friend in Me" on Idol ever again.

Some songs I would like to see done:

"He Lives in You" from The Lion King on Broadway

    "So Close" from Enchanted

    "Go the Distance" from Hercules

    "You're Welcome" from Moana

    "Show Yourself" from Frozen II

    "Ever Ever After" from Enchanted

    "Try Everything" from Zootopia

"I See the Light" from Tangled, specifically by Ava August

Another thing I hate with this twist is they gonna do big cuts again, like 3/4 eliminations every week

I miss the time when only 1 gets cut and contestants are given chances for redemption. Like Haley Reinhart would be eliminated at top 12 round with this new rule

Thankfully there are two performance shows a week this season so hopefully the cuts won’t be as steep every round.

  5. I wonder if there will be a Disney Night this year because a lot of these Oscar songs are Disney songs.

Some of the (non Disney) songs I can see the contestants doing:

    Stand Up from Harriet (Alyssa)

All the Stars from the Black Panther (Alyssa or Alanis)

Mystery of Love from Call Me By Your Name (Beane)

City of Stars from La La Land (Wyatt or Hunter)

Audition from La La Land (Cassandra, Alanis or Ava)

Writings on the Wall from Spectre

Earned It from Fifty Shades of Grey (Grace or Madison)

Lost Stars from Begin Again (Hunter or Chayce)

    Glory from Selma (Willie)

    Skyfall from Skyfall

    Falling Slowly from Once

  6. When I first heard about the twist, I wasnt too crazy about it. However, after hearing about what the format might be, it has grown on me. Now hear me out. By the time the twist gets introduced and the ten season 18 hopefuls perform on the Idol stage on April 19, the S19 contestants will have performed almost the same amount of times as last years contestants. Barring a possible Arthur Gunn voting sweep, the S19 contestants will have gained some momentum with the viewers and the contestants will be at a pretty even playing field. I'm assuming that a "few" means 3 or 4 contestants will join the current contenders. The fact that they will merge on May 2nd guarantees that there are still 6 performance shows before the finale.

Yeah but it's a singing competition at the end of the day. Songwriting and artistry can be a plus, but there needs to be a certain minimum standard imo. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. Angie Miller from many years ago had the artistry plus an incredible voice. That's how it should be. I have no problem with Alejandro working his way up in the industry, but on a singing show, the vocals need to be up to par. The talent between old idol and new idol seems to be night and day because it seems like these new set of judges have their own criteria. Plus, I'm not sure why we are still pretending like American Idol is looking for actual superstars. It's clear they are looking to produce a great show. Maddie had artistry imo and the record label didn't do squat for her. For all the artistry Alejandro has, he isn't exactly making waves tbh.

I have to disagree, the show isnt about finding great singers. Yes, singing ability is one piece of the equation, but at the end of the day they are trying to find artists that will succeed in the industry. How successful an artist is after the show is dependent on how much the label pushes them, it has nothing to do with the show. I do want to argue that Alejandro has made a dent in the industry. After coming off Idol, he has performed sold out shows across the country.

All these excuses for why Just Sam won...yikes. 🥴 I don't even think Just Sam was that popular on here. Julia, Francisco etc. had more support than she had. Her win was a shock for many of us. Not sure what Arthur and his questionable vocals have to do with Just Sam. It should've been an easy win for him. He just sucks.

The "IDF only likes divas and pageant girls" arguments don't work for people who have very questionable vocals and who borderline can't sing i.e Arthur and Alejandro. They legit have very limited ranges. I have no problem with people like Francisco and Laine because they actually have some semblance of a vocal range. I didn't even care for Just Sam like that but she was miles ahead of Arthur. "Artistry" can only carry you so far when you don't have the vocals to back it up. I liked Arthur originally, but I was over him after the fourth messy cover of "Have You Ever Seen The Rain." One of the biggest short-comings of this new phase of American Idol is the judges hyping up "artists" or non-vocalist like Alejandro while de-emphasizing the importance of talent and the voice. Not to compare, but one thing I can respect about "The Voice" is that they always put talent first. If you can't sing, you aren't making it that far, or past the blind auditions quite frankly. On American Idol, every other audition is "I think we found the next Alejandro" like that's supposed to be a complement. Pls lmao. Like why is he the bar? It seemed like we were somewhat returning to the old idol with vocalists such as Grace, Casey, Alanis, Alyssa, Willie, Deshawn, hell even Jason. Bringing back Arthur in particular will just undo a lot of that process cause I have a feeling he will easily sail to the finale w his mediocrity.

I hate that anyone is coming back. However, if they were going to do this, they should've just let non-top-10 contestants come back. People like Arthur and Louis have a pre-existing fanbase as they were voted through a couple of rounds, and have probably experienced expanded fanbases and post-idol support from their time on the show. This especially holds true for Arthur who made it all the way to second place. No reason why a runner-up should be allowed to compete against current contestants. For the non-top-10 contestants, this twist would be equivalent to auditioning for American Idol the next season. These contestants show(ed) no real evidence of pre-existing support or a massive fanbase given they weren't voted through last season. So it would be some sort of a leveled playing field. I think back in season 13, all non-tour attending contestants (aka everyone outside the top 10) were allowed to reaudition for the show.

Having a great voice is only one piece of puzzle. Artistry is more important and will take you farther in the industry. Many people in the industry have mediocre voices but are very successful because of their songwriting acumen.

I don't mind the idea on paper, but man these are pretty close to being the 10 worst contestants of last season, the only major exception being Makayla. If they couldn't get the good contestants like Sophia, Kimmy, Lauren, Jonny, Julia etc to come back then they shouldn't have bothered at all.

Now that I think about it, I agree. These are the worst contestants of the Top 20 last season. The better ones have already gotten signed. I think the only reason theyre doing this is cause they need performers to fill the two hour Monday night shows without the overkill of making contestants perform two nights in a row.

WOW these spoiler announcements just keep getting weirder and weirder. I know Ryan has to go back to NY for Live with Kelly and Ryan but I thought they might’ve made arrangements for him to stay an extra day. If this is true, this means there won’t be any live voting during the episode and results will be announced the week after. Also, when it gets down to the final few contestants, I wonder how they are going to crank out enough performances to fit two-two hour shows.

  11. My theory is that, if this twist is true, this years Top 24 will be whittled down to 12 and perform on April 18. One person will be eliminated at the end of the episode. On Monday April 19, the ten from last year will perform and one person will be eliminated. The groups will continue to alternate performing on Sundays/Mondays until they eventually merge. This will make it so that the contestants don't each have to perform two songs each week.

I think we’re going to see live voting on both nights for the entire season. DWTS just did it on Monday nights for their most recent season, and ABC has experience doing it for Idol on Sunday nights.

Yeah i agree, I think theyre most likely gonna go with that format. Gives viewers more of an incentive to watch. I feel for the contestants though, two performances a week and theyre really gonna have to be on their A game

I dont see them doing the Top 12 reveal and then an elimination on the Monday April 12th episode. It will probably be similar to S16 and S17 F14 where there were victory performances/wildcard performances.

Yeah, you're right. I just edited the schedule. Do you think there's any way theyre gonna go back to announcing the results at the beginning of the episode?

  14. An update on my schedule prediction:

I'm really hoping that Mondays will be another performance show rather than a two hour results show. If you're gonna throw a twist at the contestants, THAT would be a major twist.
