  1. Jamile McGee

I tried to be nice and cut someone I knew wouldn't upset anyone. The same cannot be said about the rest of you.

Jamile came in third during the show's 1st season, he was a hip-hop dancer hailing from Columbus, Ohio. In Week 1, he was paired with Ashlé and they danced a Jive choreographed by Mary Murphy. They were safe after it. In Week 2, he danced first and danced a Quickstep with Snow. They were in the Bottom 3 but both saved. In Week 3, he danced a Viennese Waltz with Destini. They were safe after it. In Week 4, he danced another Quickstep and a Shane Sparks hip-hop with Destini. It's amazing how he danced Ballroom for his first 4 routines and then, when he finally got his style, he produced a really memorable routine. I wish we got to see more of that from Jamile.

Surprisingly, Destini was sent home after that routine, but Jamile was saved and danced another hip-hop and a Paso Doble with Melissa the next week. Melissa was eliminated, but he was safe again. At the Top 6 he and Kamilah danced a hip-hop and a Jive and, again, he was saved while his partner was eliminated. It was interesting that he danced hip-hop three weeks in a row and, in all three weeks, he was spared while his non-hip-hop dancing partner went home. I attributed some of it to his solos too, which were usually pretty good.

In the finale, he danced a Salsa with Ashle, another hip-hop with Nick and a Jazz with Melody. As I said, he finished third and, strangely, Nick won after dancing a hip-hop with him and breaking the curse. Nowadays, Jamile is still dancing, but also choreographing and DJing. He has worked with the likes of Rihanna and Usher. He also has a wife and daughter and lives in Baltimore nowadays.

    Save: Kent Boyd.

    ASB 7

    Background

For those that don't know ASB (or "Auditionees Strike Back") was a So You Think You Can Dance redux created by Jimmy (buffmetube).

Over the years, the redux featured contestants like Mariah SpearsSerge OnikEmilio Dosal and runner-up Jaja Vankova long before their runs on the show.

In 2015, the redux had started, but never finished, its sixth season. I've decided to revive the redux with a seventh season featuring contestants from the seasons since ASB6 was cast (Seasons 14, 15 and 16). The format will be similar to seasons 8, 9, 10 and 11 where the Top 20 will dance in pairs until the Top 10, where they will begin dancing with All Stars.

Watched TC. Heartbroken for Ethan, they did him dirty.

This boot order has been pretty tragic so far.

I wonder if it factored into their decision at all that the fanbase backlash would be huge if they voted out Rob/Parv, whereas it might be a little more mild with Ethan.

He's well liked, but also a bit of a background character to the two of them and he was voted out 6th in All Stars.

I mean, at least a guy finally went home though. I haven't really been bothered by any of the boots so far, but I like Ethan so seeing him go made me sad.

  4. 1. Parvati Shallow - A Queen as always. Even when her name comes up, she's stays cool, calm and collected. I'll be interested to see what she does next week if she really is being targeted like the previews say.

    2. Sandra Diaz-Twine - We didn't see much of her this season, but just her yelling at people in the challenge was enough.

    3. Ben Driebergen (+2) - Lol, I know IDF hates him but I found him hilarious again this episode. He's so chaotic, but I think that might be what makes people keep him around.

    4. Sophie Clark (+2) - The confessional after Kim gave her the Idol, I screamed. Typical Sophie with the sweet exterior and the competitive interior.

    5. Nick Wilson (-1) -  We didn't see much of him this episode so he drops a bit.

    6. Ethan Zohn (-1) - Oh Ethan, so stupid to blab in front of Ben, but the secret scene with Parv teaching him how to lie was amazing.

    7. Michele Fitzgerald - We actually saw her! Even if her strategizing was a moot point, but she might be more visible next week if she's part of the minority of alliance trying to flip the game. Truly impressed how little they're showing of her.

    8. Denise Stapley - Finding an Idol and being smart enough to not give it to Parv, we have to stan! Even if my heart wanted a Denise/Parv alliance.

    9. Boston Rob Mariano - Masterful tribal council flex with the emptying of bags and creating chaos to ensure he got his way. I may not like him as a person, but he's good TV.

    10. Yul Kwon

    11. Natalie Anderson (+3) - She rises because a lot of people fell for me this week, but I think she's really making the most of her time on EoE so far.

    12. Amber Mariano (+1) - She didn't do much this episode but, again, others did worse so she rises a bit.

    13. Adam Klein (-1) - Adam got on my nerves this episode and based on the preview, it's going to continue into next week. I swear to God, if he has a hand in voting our Parv, he's going straight to the bottom of my list.

    14. Danni Boatwright (-3) - Not a good week for her and, honestly, I might have let it slide if not for her bitter comments all over social media after the episode aired.

    15. Wendall Holland (+1) - He was pretty much invisible this week, but again, others did worse.

    16. Jeremy Collins (-1) -  As predicted, he was a bit annoying this week with his thirst for revenge, but I'm interested to see how his advantage will play out.

    17. Tyson Apostol (+1) - Invisible.

    18. Tony Vlachos (+1) - Tony rises because he was entertaining and I'm finding him slightly less annoying than I did in Cagayan and GC.

    19. Sarah Lacina (-3) - Every time they show her, I remember why I dislike her. She can go now.

    20. Kim Spradlin - Oh Kim. Here I thought that maybe she'd get an Idol and do something interesting to make me like her, but instead she gives it to Sophie who clearly is not her ally. So far, it seems like she's being majorly out played in this game.

  5. Lindsay Arnold

Don't get me wrong, I like Lindsay. If I did a S9 redo, she'd probably place in the Top 6-8 from that season for me and I have enjoyed some of her runs on DWTS, but I also think that 73rd is a really good place for someone who had very few standout routines (see: all of Season 9 to be honest) and really wasn't that great outside of her style, though I did like some of her lyrical numbers. I knew that the only way to force people to cut her would be to rank her alongside the favourites of those that would save her, so I apologize for nominating Kayla and Kathryn, but I did what I had to do to get Lindsay out at a fairly objective placement for her. That being said, let's talk about her run on the show.

In the show's 9th season, arguably one of the worst, at least choreography-wise, Lindsay started the season paired up with Martial Artist Cole Horibe, but before that, she danced in the showcase with fellow Utah native and BFF Witney Carson and fodder-for-days Nick Bloxsom-Carter. The trio danced a Jason Gilkinson Cha-cha to JLo's song "Dance Again". All things considered, it was actually one of the more memorable routines that night, if only because the audience had high expectations for Witney and Lindsay even if most of us could barely tell them apart at that point in the season.

In the first week of competition, Lindsay and Cole danced another routine by Jason. It was Paso Doble and definitely highlighted Lindsay's strengths. Looking back, it's probably my favourite routines of theirs but I might just be saying that because it came before the Chris Scott Hip-hop to "Teeth" the next week, which was an absolute nightmare of a routine, especially on Lindsay's part. I'm not surprised Lindsay was in the Bottom 3 after it, but the judges saved her after she and Cole danced a pretty Contemporary routine to "Wild Horses". Again, I liked this routine and I'd probably rank it second of her and Cole's routines together even if I might have cut her over Amber that night. Then again, that Bottom 3 was a bit of a mess and Janelle definitely should have been the one eliminated.

During the dreaded Mia tribute week, Lindsay danced "Gravity" with Cole. She was in the Bottom 3 again from the week prior's vote, but was saved for doing a decent job of embodying the emotion of the routine. I just... hated that theme and wish they'd never done it but, alas. At the Top 10, they began to dance with the All-Stars. Lindsay's first routine was a quirky broadway number with Jakob Karr. It felt a bit pedestrian to me, and she's probably lucky she was safe that night because I think she might have been sent home after it. Or they would have given her a different routine to rig the vote like they did all season.

At the Top 8, she danced a Sonya Tayeh Jazz to Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know". I actually liked this routine too, but she was in the Bottom 2 that night against Witney after Witney danced "My Homies Still" so she was a goner. At the time, I was sad she was eliminated over Tiffany, but now I think that probably the right time for her to go even if I preferred her. Again, I think this is a good placement for her and probably close to her placement's in the 1st and 2nd rank downs, though I don't really remember exactly where she placed. I know some people might have ranked her higher thanks to her DWTS runs, but some of her runs, especially her most recent one with S*an Sp*cer, actually probably contributed to me liking her less. But good for her and Witney for overcoming the trainwreck that was Season 9 and capitalizing on their fifteen minutes to end up pros on DWTS. If SYTYCD can't respect ballroom dancers, at least that show can. Although we did get to see her dance with Aleksandr and Brandon during Season 16's Top 20 show. Also I went a whole Lindsay writeup without mentioning J*nsen, the fact that her siblings all look the same or plastic surgery so, success!

  6. Phillip Chbeeb

Phillip is one of the last remaining semi-finalists in this rankdown. He was on the show's fifth season and made it to the Top 12, partnered with the infallible Jeanine Mason every week, which is probably partially why he's so popular. Going into the season, they were an odd pairing. Phillip was fairly popular because we'd seen him audition for several seasons before and seeing him finally make it made a lot of people root for him, whereas Jeanine was a bit of a wildcard and had very little screen time leading up to the live shows. In many ways, their partnership felt like the second coming of Gev and Courtney's partnership - an unassuming hip-hop guy and contemporary girl who were perceived as underdogs at first blush and went on to become fan favourites.

That being said, during their time together, they had some great routines that definitely contributed to why Jeanine is seen as one of the greatest contestants of all time around these parts. In Week 1 (Top 20), they danced first and had a Nappytabs Lyrical Hip-hop to "Mad" by Ne-yo. I remember being nervous that they were about to be cast as fodder, but they slayed the routine and had that rare chemistry that very few couples have had over SYTYCD History. It was also in the early days of Nappytabs career on the show, so their choreography still felt fresh. The routine was even reminiscent of Katee and Joshua's routine, "No Air", so it was almost natural that people would begin to latch on to them.

In Week 2 (Top 18), they danced a Tony Meredith Tango. Again, I remember being nervous since neither of them were ballroom dancers, but Phillip was a solid partner and Jeanine just had the conviction to sell this routine. It was in that moment that I realized Jeanine might be the real deal. Just thinking about her routines makes me long for the days when ballroom was a staple on the show and we actually had contestants who looked like they had at least taken a ballroom class before trying out for the show (*coughAmyhack*).

After two solid routines under their belt, they danced a Tyce Diorio Broadway routine in Week 3 (Top 16) to "Moses Supposes" from Singin' in the Rain. It was nice to finally see Jeanine dance lyrical (and a change from modern seasons when lyrical dancers seem to only dance lyrical routines throughout their entire run... *coughSophiehack*). Again, their chemistry also sold this routine and made them one of the most interesting couples that season.

In Week 4 (Top 14), they danced another Nappytabs hip-hop routine to Kayne West's "Love Lockdown" and, despite doing really well with it, landed in the Bottom 3. To be fair, that Bottom 3 was a mess with Kayla and Kupono there after "Eyes on Fire" and Caitlin and Jason safe after "Creator". The disrespect. But I suspect it is because Melissa and Ade danced their Romeo & Juliet Pas De Deux, which likely caused the vote split to workout in favour of them instead. Fortunately, Phillip and Jeanine and Kayla and Kupono were saved in favour of Karla and Jonathan being eliminated.

In Week 5 (Top 12), there was a bit of a bussing when Jeanine and Phillip got Kalinka (Russian Folk) and a Jive. They did well with the Jive but the Russian Folk routine was a train wreck and the judges weren't shy about telling them that. I don't know whether they thought it might be a success after Twitch and Joshua danced it the year prior, but it did not turn out well for Jeanine and Phillip. I also suspect that they needed an excuse to eliminate Phil, since they didn't want him in the Top 10 and, sure enough, him and Jeanine were in the Bottom 3 again the following night. With Jason and Ade there next to him, the judges didn't hesitate to cut him and save Jeanine.

Whether deliberate, or by accident, Phil's popularity had helped make Jeanine the dark horse of that season so, for that, I'm grateful. He's blossomed into an amazing choreographer and has given us some pretty memorable routines the past few years, including Z*ch and Fik-shun's Hip-hop to "Sail", the Top 20 Team Street Group Routine "Time", Gaby & Virgil's Lyrical Hip-hop "Slip", and Kaylee & Cyrus's Hip-hop "Die Trying". He also posts some pretty amazing videos on his YouTube and instagram and is dating Season 10 alum Makenzie Dustman. They two of them are adorable and I'm here for it.
