Just for fun - assign the following classic / famous rock songs to the Top 13 based on who you'd like to see perform what. (There are 16 total songs on offer to give folks some flexibility; three will be left over.)
For a bonus, identify your "pimps" and "buses" from among the assigned songs.
Personally would be interested to see a similar exercise done for other genres (but other genres are not my area).
Songs:
"Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin
"Sympathy for the Devil" - Rolling Stones
"Under Pressure" - Queen / David Bowie
"Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd
"Barracuda" - Heart
"Just What I Needed" - Cars
"Let It Be" - Beatles
"The Chain" - Fleetwood Mac
"Take the Long Way Home" - Supertramp
"Love in an Elevator" - Aerosmith
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" - U2
"Take it Easy" - Eagles
"Can't You See" - Marshall Tucker Band
"Born to Run" - Bruce Springsteen
"The Sound of Silence" - Simon and Garfunkel
"Piece of my Heart" - Janis Joplin
Top 13 by coach:
GNT
Jeremy Rosado
Gymani
Hailey Mia
Jershika Maple
Joshua Vacanti
Shadale
Jim and Sasha Allen
Holly Forbes
Ryleigh Plank
Wendy Moten
Paris Winningham

We gonna do a game of "What's the dumbest guesses that still make sense"
- Cam Anthony (murdered his opponent)
- Lindsay Joan (The unkept promise was Kelly stealing her and the kept promise was me not burning down my house when she left)
- Carolina Rial (Episode 2 of the blinds only had 2 females, but the only one who could be in this set was the one who got a chair turn)
- Jordan Matthew Young (He had to run away from the haters who were mad at him for doing so well. He lost the show though, because the two people in front of him had so much weight when it came to the voting)
- Gihanna (She auditioned for the Disney Film "Princess and The Frog". Don't fact check me on that. She did.)
Haha, well played!
-
- Cam Anthony - “Feeling Good”
- Victor Solomon - “Freedom”
- Jordan Matthew Young - “Gold Dust Woman”
- Dana Monique - “Nutbush City Limits”
- Pia Renee - “What The World Needs Now”
- Zania Alake - "Sweet Love"
- Zae Romeo - "Falling"
- Cam Anthony - “Stand Up”
- Raine Stern - “Electric Feel”
- Gihanna Zoë - “Reflection"
HM:

Pick four contestants you think could make great Voice coaches. Who and why?
1 - Season 20 only
2 - All seasons
-
Great finish for Jordan! 3rd place in a season with a ton of great, deserving talent.

Well deserved win for Cam. Wishing all the finalists the best in their future careers.

Great night for Jordan. Showed two completely different sides.
Agree - "Stay" didn't quite translate as well live as it did in the studio recording for me, but it was nevertheless solid and inventive. Jordan killed it on his upbeat song though, glad they let him rock out on the guitar solo. Considering he beat out four highly regarded vocalists (and some serious fan favorites) in the Instant Save, he vindicated himself quite well tonight.
Regardless of where he finishes tomorrow (likely a realistic ceiling of 3rd), he had a great season and deserves the future opportunities and successes coming his way!

1. Cam
2. Kenzie
3. Jordan
4. Victor
5. Rachel
Though Victor could easily snatch #3 with that exclamation point to end the season.

A more interesting question might be, "2nd favorite JMY performance"
Probably would have to go with Key to the Highway... slide guitar suits him.
-
Mostly in agreement, on the top 2 at least
1. Cam - No question, he's ready for the big time. Like, "bigger than The Voice", big time. Blake's absolutely right, the guy's a star.
2. Jordan - Didn't have a bad performance all season IMO; even the songs that weren't in his wheelhouse, he managed to make them work. Versatility and experience definitely set him apart.
3. Victor - Despite a couple songs where there was something slightly "off' about his voice (some hoarseness / rasp? song choice? can't put my finger 100% on it), he could knock out a solid performance every week. And what an exclamation point to end the season!
4. Kenzie - No question, Kenzie has a great voice and could be a country star in the not-too-distant future. Big stadiums will suit him better than television though, as there was something about the up-close format that made his less refined stage presence more apparent.
5. Rachel - A little messy / shouty at times for my tastes, but no question Rachel exceeded expectations and put in some great performances, especially (if I recall correctly) her KO. She held her own in the finale as the sole female representative and at just 16 has a ton of future potential. Not a bad run for a 1-chair turn!

Even just an extra week added to the current (live) format to allow for 17-13-9-5, with all artists who make the lives having an opportunity to do an IS song, would be an improvement.
You could even use the "13" week to have group performances by those that failed to advance during the 4-way KO and Top 17 weeks - there's usually a couple fan favorites who go home in these rounds, another chance for them to showcase their talents could be fun.

I like the idea of this, especially because it seems like a lot of the steals are used early (in earlier tapings), and later artists don't even necessarily have a coach that can steal them.

Two questions:
- Who the f*** gave Jordan a Rihanna song for the finale ballad round?
- Why does it actually work???
I am so confused at this but I'm not mad at it.
These are good questions
For #2, I'm becoming more convinced that the guy can sing just about anything, which is a testament to the years he's spent touring (esp. relative to the other finalists).
I liken it to Toneisha Harris (who it also seemed could sing anything they threw at her) and Blake's comment (to her after her audition) that "experience goes a long way".

Jordan: Sings Rihanna for the finale
Haters: ....
I feel like Jordan represents what some here on IDF dislike about the voting demographics, genre/coach preferences, and PV/IS format these last 3 seasons; as opposed to any actual animosity towards him (I mean, there will always be a few haters, but it's not like Jordan seems inclined to worry too much about them.)

'twas but a joke, im not disputing the research findings
Gotcha! And it's interesting, I've been watching with my mom for 3 seasons (to pass the time during COVID)... she would adamantly tell you that (a) Toneisha should've won; (b) Desz should've been top 2 / top 3; and (c) Dana should've advanced over Rachel. Her demographics would scream "Minivan" (older/white), except for the fact that we're Chicagoans and she (and her children) grew up on a lot more Motown / R&B / Soul than perhaps the typical voter in the American South. So, I can definitely see how familiarity with certain genres can drive preferences.

I guess IDF is filled with aliens then
Lol, tried my best to make it clear, it's a statistical preference... obviously individual results may vary (and no, IDF is not a randomly selected cross section of the US population!)

Some food for thought:
Resident population of the United States by race for 2019 (in millions)
Characteristic White Black/AA Amer Indian/Alaska Native Asian Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Two or more races 2019 250.52 44.08 4.19 19.5 0.81 9.14 Well, and the subset of Americans who watch the Voice and take the time to vote for artists (not just watch on YouTube after the fact) almost certainly skews whiter, Midwestern/Southern, female, and older. I'm sure that that drives a lot of the voting behavior.
Whether that voting behavior is genre preference or some combination of racism/sexism, I can't really draw any hard conclusions. I don't believe voting patterns on The Voice could ever give us sufficient statistical evidence one way or the other, so we're left with drawing conclusions based on anecdotes and personal opinions on who is "deserving".
At minimum, it should be obvious to people (at least to anyone who looks in the mirror) that humans have an innate bias towards familiarity, and so it shouldn't surprise us that Voice voters likely vote for the genres / artists / coaches that are more "familiar" to them. Is a bias towards familiarity evidence of racism? My inclination is to say that without clear evidence of antagonism towards people of other races, that "racism" is probably not the right word to use to describe this phenomenon. "Bias" or "Preference" is probably the better descriptor. All that said, it doesn't discount the fact that it will be an uphill battle for a soul/R&B signer to win the voting majority of an audience that largely grew up on beer, football, and country music.
Re: sexism, there is well documented social science evidence that human beings (even women) have a statistical preference for male leadership (1), for whatever reason. (To be clear - this is not a blanket statement or a value judgment, just a research finding). I do wonder if there is a similar dynamic going on with females (of the type who are Voice voters) having a preference for male singers. Not sure I can draw any conclusions here, but I find this an interesting question.

Interesting. I thought of him singing that, too, but I see it more as a ballad than an upbeat song.
yeah - lot of songs from that era are "in between" - not necessarily one (ballad) or the other (upbeat), so that people like us can argue about it
