This makes no sense to me considering that one of the few successful Voice contestants is Melanie Martinez, the quirkiest of quirky girls, who auditioned playing the tambourine with her feet.

That was ten years ago lol...and Melanie is actually one of the few Voice contestants I've liked and even then I feel like her journey was hampered by the Voice format and she reinvented herself for Crybaby and it worked really well.

  3. Damn...I didn't know how many of y'all were just The Voice fans migrating here. I just wanted to give my counterpoint, as someone who has never been able to get into The Voice.

First of all, speaking of the format. I personally find the Voice has way too much focus on the judges and the format is quite unfair in that the decisions are made right after performances without seeing all of them as well as the pairings tournament style. Then, you have the live rounds, which I don't know why, but the American Idol sets and costumes and props just feel so much more effortful and visually appealing than the same red-black duotone that the Voice uses for everything.

And then speaking of the elimination format... you'll have the first live round where half of the people are cut and then single eliminations for like three weeks and then half of the cast is eliminated again. It feels super jarring on those mass cuts...I miss single eliminations on Idol but atleast once you get to the finalist stage it's always double elimination without insanely structured cuts.

Contestant wise, I never noticed a gap in vocal talent. I like the character and following contestants along their journey and wanting to be emotionally moved by their performances. Sometimes that can be through contestants like Nicolina but she isn't necessarily a powerhouse in that sense. She is able to hit high notes but she only uses them when it is relevant to the arc of the song. American Idol emphasizes the story of a performance much more than the raw "look what notes I can hit" and you can definitely see that in the voting patterns. I don't agree with all the country artists advancing super far, but that just goes to show how the emphasis on American Idol is on storytelling, emotional connection, and their artistic identity. Leah and Catie have been two of my favorite contestants of all of ABC Idol, and I could never imagine contestants like that on The Voice.

Or limit the number of country singers who make the semifinals.  Like no more than 2.

I'm fine with the number of country singers but why do they ALWAYS receive massive edits? Why do women and POC always get 3/4 of their pre-live performances cut out? Everybody in the Top 11 this season other than Lady K (surprise, the only WOC of those 11!) had all their performances aired. All 3 Top 14 cuts had almost all of their performances cut.

Leah and Hunter are not "already a star" though (I assume you are referencing them with that comment.) They are struggling artists who came on the show to gain more exposure. Just because they have original music out does not make them a star, and they have grown just as much as Noah throughout the season.

Though, this just goes to show the manipulation of the edit. Leah has been edited as the loud quirky girl who has already found herself as an artist and Hunter has been edited as the overly professional singer who doesnt need the show (not saying I agree with that, but thats how the judges make it look.)

On the flip side, Noah has been edited as the young, attractive working class father who has something to prove, which is why people sympathize with his arc more. But in actuality, Leah and Hunter have just as much to prove as well.

Leah has talked about how she just dropped out of college and was lost in life and decided to audition for Idol and she's grown so much throughout the season

  6. I'm kinda curious if they'll be doing a two-stage voting system like in Season 17 (Top 3 to Top 2 voting) or just one and done like Season 19. If it's one-stage, I feel like Leah has more of a shot because more vote split, but also if it's two-staged I'd vote Hunter over Noah in a heartbeat should that be the Top 2.

i mean you’re not wrong but people like laine and chayce exist who arguably beat out better singers of their respective seasons for this reason. looking at all the stats from social media to spotify streams to itunes, noah is by far dominating everyone. anything could happen but i would be very surprised if noah doesn’t take it home :/

Idk, Arthur was dominating numbers pretty hard, and Maddie was in 3rd iirc. Social media numbers aren't everything. Performances definitely have more weight than people give them credit for.

It seems in particular for ABC seasons with female winners that they come out of nowhere stats wise, so hopefully Leah can pull that off too

Honestly, the leaked votes were pretty accurate in retrospect lmao. The Top 7 in the leaks ended up being the actual Top 7, except Dan was in it over Jay.

Obviously the order changed around since Nicolina was 7th there, but made Top 5, and Jay was 14th, but made Top 7. However, this is because they had moments when others did not and there were MULTIPLE rounds of performances between the vote leak and the Top 7.

I'm honestly glad I didn't see the whole list in the case that is spoiled so much. And jazzontherocks got so much flack for it despite it being most likely correct...In any case I have some opinions on that list:

    1. The amount of votes has gone up every week, despite having less contestants, meaning *significantly* more people are voting compared to in the beginning. Like I can see a lot shifting between the Top 3, especially with vote splitting.

    2. We have to think back to the performance on Top 20 too, because Nicolina and Jay both went very early in a 3 hour after-voting episode and had pretty off performances. Which is why they survived longer than that bootlist said. Huntergirl also went semi-early so who knows if she has skirted past Noah in the votes on occasion.

Honestly, I am leaning a bit towards HunterGirl winning the whole thing. Not counting S18, in the previous two seasons the artist who got called first into the top three won in the end (Chayce and Laine). But I don't know if this season will be the same case. I have to see the stats for this week as well.

    Maddie was called third, though.

Noah has a 65% chance of winning, Leah has a 35% chance of winning. I don't see how Huntergirl can win but she can definitely get 2nd.
