Let's see how this does, comparing coach performances to contestant performances of the same song..

Jennifer Hudson

Kelly Clarkson

Seems she only sung this once 12 years ago

Sissuandra lewis

Wendy Moten

Sasha Allen

Wow people still prefer Wendy and Sissuandra over Jennifer Hudson's version.. ok!

I get it though, JHuds voice got pretty shrill during the climax, though to be expected when mixing a B5..

i voted for Sissaundra! love Wendy and many of her other performances, but i've always been surprised at the acclaim for her rendition when she had to lower the key :stealth: i get that it's not a big deal for some, but since Ain't No Way is iconic for how vocally demanding it is, i feel like it's a song you just shouldn't attempt it if you can't sing it how it's written.

I get what you mean, but I think the performance can still be impactful. In this particular case, I thought Wendy had enough soul, power and emotion that it didn't really matter as much.

Also, I can't personally abide by that line of thinking if only cause Ledisi's version is one of my absolute favourite renditions and she sung it in a lower key. Check it out if you haven't listened to it, I'd be curious if you still feel the same way.

i've actually watched Ledisi's rendition a bunch as well! i am more generous towards her because of the insane high notes she hits in the climax and afterwards, whereas i found Wendy's rendition to be rather safe and traditional (which is also fine, just not my preference!)

Ain't No Way is one of my favorite songs of all time so you already know I've watched the "Best Ain't No Way Climax" compilation videos hundreds of times :dead: i'd say my favorite rendition now is Cynthia Erivo's, though it changes!

I mean wendy still sang that song DOWN no matter what key it was so it def earned its praise

OP: I think I may actually go with wendy here, she took her time with the song wheras with sisaundras it felt a tiny bit rushed in places
