Anythingcanhappen Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) Title - what are some examples of when the finale placement order was something super different than what you thought it would be/something about it was super shocking (ex someone you thought would win or get 2nd placed low etc)? This thread was inspired by the fact that I don’t think there will be any major surprises tonight, I think Shye and Sofronio are the very very obvious T2 and the other 3 could be in any order for 3rd through 5th (although fairly confident Jeremy will get 3rd). I really don’t see any upsets happening tonight and I think if that prediction is off it would be shocking for all Edited December 10, 2024 by Anythingcanhappen 1
Gustavo527 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I think the only instance with really shocking results that i remember is Season 15. I was convinced that Kirk was gonna win, so imagine my surprise when he was called 3rd and it was clear that we were getting a female winner for the third time in a row. Good times. 1
QueenCami Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 i remember Katie Kadan 3rd place was a bit shocking to me as a new viewer 1
Misirlou Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 The first time a semis Instant Save managed to place above 4th. I think it was Britton in S14 if I recall correctly. Since that, it´s become more usual and it´s not really surprising anymore, even with 5 finalists now.
Dai Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 It wasn’t that shocking but Thunderstorm had the “winner aura” from the start and until the end, I really thought he would somehow take it even when the odds were obviously against him. 4

AliXRose Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I should've known better but I was sure Nathan Chester was a lock for the Top 2. 4
AngelaKD Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I still remember being shocked when they called Jermaine Paul’s name in S2. It was the beginning of Blake’s domination of the voting. I definitely expected Juliet to win. 5
Bouli Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 For new-ish examples: s25 - Nathan Chester getting 4th. With all the buzz I heard online, I thought he would be top 2. s23 - Grace West getting 2nd/Gina Miles getting 1st. I was so convinced Blake was going to win his last season on sentimentality alone. I have no idea where the hell Gina Miles's win came from (and judging by the look on her face, neither did she lol). I wanted her to win, and I loved her voice, but I didn't think "Style" was a good enough finale song to do it for her. s22 - Omar Jose Cardona getting 4th; after how well he did on finale night, I thought he'd done enough for at least 3rd. (I didn't really see him beating Bodie.) And I was also shocked Bryce Leatherwood won; I was absolutely floored. And I say that as someone who didn't even mind him winning; I liked him more than I usually like country singers (even though I wanted Omar to win and preferred Bodie over Bryce). But I did NOT expect it. For older examples: s14 - Kyla Jade getting 3rd, although I'm not shocked anymore now that I know she intentionally self-sabotaged so she could avoid the doomed winners' contract. But at the time, I thought she was so solid, AND on Team Blake, that there was no way she wasn't getting 1st. (I also still didn't fully understand the viewer demo or any of the stats people used to predict winners, because otherwise, Brynn's win over Kyla wouldn't have shocked me. I'm also pretty sure this was the last season when I was completely floored with the finale order.) I'll also say I was shocked Britton got 2nd, but only because he was in the Instant Save the previous week, and I don't think any Instant Save contestants had ever gotten higher than last place in the finale. s10 - Hannah Huston getting 3rd. At the time, I wasn't on IDF and didn't 100% understand things about the voting demo, but I was on Reddit (which used to be more active) and a Discord server, and EVERYONE there was completely obsessed with Hannah Huston and would frequently nitpick Alisan's performances (even though I personally strongly preferred Alisan). I thought Hannah would be Top 2 or possibly the winner. s7 - Matt McAndrew getting 2nd/Craig Wayne Boyd getting 1st. After Matt's song charted better on iTunes, all my social media was going off about Matt, I didn't fully understand the power of country with the voting demo, etc., I had no idea Matt was going to lose. Oh, and BTW - @AngelaKD Quote I definitely expected Juliet to win. Oh, she totally should have lmao, worst robbery in the show's history. 1

In retrospect, Juliet was sick on finale performance night, and back then the show got a lot of finale-only casual viewers who weren’t aware of her body of work. That’s the explanation I’ve worked out in my head anyway! S7 Matt got screwed by a change in vote count method. The seasons before his, there had been a cumulative vote. But because of the extra round they had to get another finalist, they switched from cumulative live show votes to finale only votes. Matt would definitely have won under the old system. The voting system also played a part, but Gina peaking at the right time did it for her s10 - I remember Hannah getting alot of flack on FB/online with her being arrogant or cocky with her faces, so idk if that turned people off or not but it was def something I saw back then s7 - this result still shocks me to this day, but part of me feels like his somewhere over the rainbow cover may have cost it for him due to it being one of his weakest performances Edited December 11, 2024 by StarWalker1 2
nessa97 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) I was pretty shocked that Bryan placed 3rd last season, and I was even more shocked that he made it to the finals. Edited December 11, 2024 by nessa97 3
FloorWax Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 D. Smooth getting 3rd on that season was kinda hilarious. Granted his competition was Sorelle and NOIVAS but I’m talking more about the fact that he made finals over Holly and Ryley Tate 3
Kenneth96 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Jeremy Beloate in 5th. I'm personally gutted. 1 2

Bouli Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) Well. Guess we can add tonight to the list Jeremy getting 5th after having a good night absolutely floored me. (But one of the comments in the finale thread summed it up pretty well: that it's worse to be a little boring than it is to be bad and memorable.) (Also, I was a Jeremy stan, so even though I knew he wouldn't beat Shye or Sofronio, I was pretty sad Jeremy didn't get 3rd.) I was shocked Sydney got 3rd after having such a shaky finale night. It makes me wonder if she could have gotten 2nd if she'd performed better. For some reason, despite both of those placements shocking me, Danny getting 4th didn't shock me. Can't really explain that one Edited December 11, 2024 by Bouli
JodiRose Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) I started watching in Season 16, so here’s the final placing moments since that season that shocked me. Season 18 - When Thunderstorm Artis didn’t win The Voice, but it was later revealed after the finale aired that he placed 3rd that season. Season 19 - When John Holiday and Ian Flanigan placed 5th and 3rd, respectively. Season 20 - When Victor Solomon and Rachel Mac placed 5th and 4th, respectively. But I was still so happy when Cam Anthony won. Season 22 - When Omar Jose Cardona placed 4th and when Bryce Leatherwood won The Voice, but I didn’t mind Bryce winning and was therefore happy about his win. Season 24 - When Mara Justine placed 3rd, but I was still so happy for Huntley when he won. Edited December 14, 2024 by JodiRose

MusicBuff101 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Sydney and Bryan getting third are ones that I never would have predicted after seeing their performances. Katie Kadan getting third was shocking in the moment, but in hindsight she did kinda get Kyla Jade’d. Cant believe no one has mentioned this yet, but Kroeze had my jaw on the floor. I thought Kennedy was pulling a Britton 110%. Never thought Chris has as much support as he did. 2
Hamza Tufail Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Didn't expect Bryan to be in the top 3 at all. Didn't expect Chevel to win at all. 1
