Thoughts on S26 so far?

With us going halfway through the season with knockouts happening on Monday. What do you guys so far of Season 26? How do you feel about the talent? How do you feel about the coaches? How are the performances going?

Snoop is fantastic. I had high hopes after he mentored the KOs in S20 and he has not disappointed. Michael on the other hand has been a big letdown; just very cringey and hasn't done great with song choices so far.

 

Overall the talent is alright, I wasn't a fan of the bookends of the battle rounds but there are some good contestants, though I will say the format alone is a dealbreaker for me. A season with 2-3 weeks of lives needs to REALLY make up in its talent pool, and I don't think this season will get there. This is honestly the least invested I've ever been in a season.

There are some people I'm interested in, maybe even more than last season. But the rest honestly feels like filler, so many weak or mediocre performances and the format is awful (even 1 extra week of live shows, while not ideal obviously would be a big improvement)

 

I rarely watch what the coaches say so I can't speak to that part.

It's been kinda boring so far, not gonna lie. There's obviously very talented people and some that I really like, but I haven't been as invested as I have been in past seasons. 

 

Blinds dragged, and battles were subpar, hope the KOs really bring it.

There are a handful of people I’m genuinely interested in, but it doesn’t help that a lot of the other fan favorites haven’t been clicking with me. *cough* Danny *cough* Sydney *cough* Katie O

I think the show sucks, not necessarily the season. This isn’t the fault of the contestants. They’ve ruined what was once a great show.

This is pretty much me except for Katie O.

 

I'm still waiting for someone to really nail a big performance.  This is the kind of season where Gina rose from the pack with one excellent performance and held on to win with a very good finale.

This right here.

 

The best performance of the season so far for me is the Jose Luis/Austyns battle. As far as BAs, Danny´s is still front and center. Both great performances, but they wouldn´t exactly skyrocket them to the finale or the win. So far nobody has done that.

 

The KOs tend to be the strong round where those moments happen. Ironically though, Gina´s KO is probably her weakest performance and I´m willing to bet 99% of IDFers counted her out by semis (since they knew spoilers). POs did it for her.

Gina had a growth arc. The audience loves that. She sort of stalled out after that, but it didn’t matter with such a short season and the format/voting changes. Grace was strong and consistent from the beginning, but she was expected to perform well every week.

She did, but I agree with @Misirlou that her ko on the Gotye song wasn't the best. Wicked Games pulled her up.

 

I don't mean comparisons for more than this point, but Chloe was somewhat similar. She seemed like an also-ran till Landslide in the ko, the po was fine but that was all, and Total Eclipse likely made the difference. She was good but not great after.

 

My only point in all this is that nobody has pulled off that kind of performance yet (we're only heading into ko's). Sometimes folks do early on like GNT in their BA, battle and ko.

Someone will need a good song choice for that to happen. So far, that has been a big part of the problem.
