Hailey Mia on American Idol

The cat’s out of the bag that our former Team Kelly artist is now on American Idol! With that being said, what do you think her potential is or what her chances of winning the whole thing?

I don’t know, but she’s managed to make it on the two biggest singing shows by the age of 16, already a finalist on one, so props to her for that. Hopefully, AI will provide her with better post-show opportunities than The Voice did. That’s about all you can ask for these days. 
 

If she makes it to the voting rounds, and gets good songs, she should be fine.

Absolutely yes. If she was able to make it to fourth place on The Voice finale then she's making the finale on American Idol too. She did make it to the finale for a reason because of her growth arc. I think she will have the same growth arc on Idol and will probably make top 2 like Megan did last season who had the growth arc. She just needs great songs like she got on The Voice.

She'll be in the finale, but I'm not sure about winning.

I think Hailey could very well make a deep run in the competition! However, she will definitely be fighting an uphill battle to actually win it imo. 

 

Obviously women in general tend to struggle on ABC Idol, but I feel like for the female pop belters its even worse. Their ceiling tends to be Top 5 (Nicolina/Wé), and if they do make the finale, they are pretty much guaranteed 3rd place (Madison Vandenburg/Grace Kinstler). The women who have made Top 2 in the ABC era (excluding Just Sam) are Maddie Poppe, HunterGirl, and Megan Danielle - all are country and/or folk influenced artists, which Hailey is not. 

 

Will be rooting for Hailey but I personally wouldn't get my hopes up for her winning the season. Maybe she will get lucky if she is super loved by producers, gets an amazing edit, and is very pimped lol.

Hailey has a great cover of “You Say” somewhere. I might suggest mixing that in at some point to throw a bone to minivan.

That would probably get minivan approval too.

She’ll make Top 5. Being a cute, sweet teen girl goes a long way on Idol. It’s the adult females who have a hard time (Kaeyra, Olivia, etc.)

Not sure any of those girls quality as adults but maybe for AI they do. But I do agree that she will go far because she is a talented youngster. She won't win because she's the wrong gender but she will do well for sure.

As I alluded to earlier, she can mitigate some of the genre disadvantages with song choices like the two I mentioned above. She also has great covers of “All I Ask” and “She Used To Be Mine.” Stay in that lane and she’ll be fine. Some of her song choices on The Voice weren’t the best for older viewers.

She'll make the lives.  I'm sure that she'll make the Top 5, especially given that she apparently came in 4th on her season of the Voice.  I'm not so sure that she can win, but if they she makes the right song choices and if the favorites of the minivan women aren't good enough, maybe she can win.  Right now, I'm saying that it's unlikely but that it depends on the other artists.

If Joshua did attempt Celine Dion, that was a fatal error.  My list of the rules that American Idol contestants will need to follow -- which I'll post when it's time to see the Top 24 -- notes that you should not tackle songs written by Celine, Mariah or Whitney because you're going to be compared to the original singers and more often than not, you're going to come out on the short end of the stick.  We Ani didn't do that when she tackled Whitney, but that did ultimately doom her chances of making it to the semi-finals.
