Yay, it’ll be here soon!

I wish they’d go back to four months but I can live with this schedule. Hoping for another great season. I think ABC Idol is now hitting its stride.

The ratings aren't good enough for ABC to order more shows.  Those days are long gone.  Whatever viewers left are just about the show.  But once the season is done, it's a Dead Zone.  Not just here - but other Idol forums - that used to get a lot of traffic during the off season.  Not anymore.

I know but it does get pretty much identical or slightly better ratings than The Voice, which can afford to air two seasons a year (though they have really scaled things back.) I’d just like to see an extra few weeks added to the schedule but I know ABC isn’t going to put themselves in a position to lose money on the show. Maybe pay the judges less money since they don’t bring any more viewers in. The Voice paid all that money for Ariana and the ratings didn’t go up at all, so it’s no wonder she only did one season.

The Voice is on a different network.  With ABC, there's also the problem of scheduling.  The Bachelor is one of their most popular franchise - and I can't see them scaling it back for Idol.

This is because many of Idol's core fans are grown and don't have as much time to invest in it year round 💀 I know that's the case for me!

14 weeks is a solid length - same as last season! Perhaps with the strike we may be able to get multiple episodes a week more frequently (praying for that especially during Auditions...)

My main issue with S21 was them going from Top 26 to Top 12 in the span of a week, and consequently having to deal with people like Haven, Warren, and Colin for so many weeks because the format was top heavy rather than holistic of the entire Top 26. Hopefully they fix that this season by spreading out eliminations more strategically or simply just doing a Top 20, rather than expanding it to prove that this is "the best season yet!"

Core fans these days are just about the show, but quickly move once it's over - and abandon their favorites. That's why a lot of contestants struggle after the show.

The schedule is set in advance.  The strike, if it had any impact, would already been factored into the schedule.

BTW, I think TPTB could care less about a female winner - when you consider that Colin Stough is the only person from last season who has a record deal.  There was discussion on MJs that Iam has not been signed.

the voice's seasons schedules are atrocious tho. their current seasons are getting 2-3 rounds of lives shows including the finale.... i will gladly take ABC idol having 6/7 rounds of live shows. they're doing 2/3x of the amount of live shows that the other singing competitions are doing so i consider that a win at this point.

I definitely am victim of this lol. Although I don't think anybody intentionally abandons their faves? It's just hard to stay invested when these artists don't get signed. They only release like 2-3 songs a year with minimal promotion (likely a spam of TikTok's made in their cars lol). By the time they do release music people have moved on.

However, I also don't think fans should be entirely to blame. I get the vibe that many contestants expect to make it big after Idol since the judges and TPTB act like every contestant is going to be the next big star 💀 Then when they get off the show, they are shocked that they basically have to start all over again which can be very demotivating and result in them not wanting to make music. We've seen it two seasons in a row now with Leah Marlene and Megan Danielle making the Finale, but then them going on to publicly share the mental health crises they faced after their seasons finished.

Sooooo TL;DR I feel like all parties (artists, fans, TPTB) are to blame in a sense lol

Tell all that to Colin Stough.  He got signed not too long after the show ended.  MJ reported earlier this summer that he had already moved to Nashville and was working with a label.  He released his EP last month.

The real music industry is a brutal business.  A lot tougher than Idol.  I remember people saying that Leah Marlene had unrealistic expectations and need to have a thicker skin.  If she wanted a career doing music, she better be ready for a lot of disappointments, setbacks, criticisms - often very bias and unfair.

And I think that I know why:  he's country.
