2Chris Weaver - He did a good job at almost capturing the essence of the original (without needing to be cringe like Mr. Wright). This was a powerful take but at the same time i never felt like he oversang or anything. It had the perfect balance of fierceness and subtleness. And i absolutely adore his soulful tone. Off-topic but i'd have rather have him over Davon on the lives on that season.

1. Jacquie Lee. - On the other hand, well, this was not subtle, at all. This girl was all about power, like, she didn't held back, not even a little bit. And it worked?? Well, for me, absolutely YES! I was SHOOK the whole performance. It feels surreal everytime i watch it. Listening to her hitting all that notes with such ease is amazing. And this was LIVE. She definitely put a spell on me.

This is correct

Also Cami in theory should've slayed that song but I think John H won fair and square (probably unpop here lol)

(I'm a Cami fan btw so not hating, I also like her Never Tear Us Apart better than any of John Holiday performances)

I agree, as much as i don't like his tone when he goes high, John definitely won that knockout. That was Cami's second worst after "The Joke".

I remember Cami's KO being universally praised on here and many saying it was her best performance when it first aired. But at the time I thought it was her weakest performance after the joke.

On the other hand, her battle was probably her 2nd least popular performance with many people not into the arrangement. But I always thought it was her best prelive vocal 🤷‍♂️

to me her best pre-live has always been her audition, her battle was too understated tbh

I always thought Cami vs James was underrated.

imo it was pleasant but only that. skinny love was a masterpiece, truly one of the greats of indie pop auditions imo. her other two that were strong were never tear us apart and when the partys over, but imo none of the rest of her performances really reached the highs of her audition

i thought their styles were too different for it to work -- james kind of overpowered cami. btw james was great, i wanna get more good r&b/pop combo singers on the show, i loved his vocal agility

Kaylee Shimizu's duet with her coach on Ordinary People!

I still don't forgive him for dropping her for AZAN though :giggle:

Kaylee was johns most talented singer by far (or at least the one with the most potential) But I stand by the fact that Azan outperformed her in the POs.

That being said, I don't remember but if he gave her that song choice then it's still his fault anyways so..

I mean, Kaylee definitely loves Aretha.

Edit: bye, i'm stupid. Kaylee sang Aretha for her KO, not her PO.

AZAN was definitely better than Kaylee in that round. Kaylee was not bad too but wtf was John thinking about giving this song to her.

But still Kaylee was the better choice in the long-term. He could've had more chance of his team of 3 still intact in the Semi-finals.

I won't take anything away from AZAN though, she obviously had a run that a RnB/neo-soul enjoyer could have dreamed of, besides "No Tears Left To Cry" of course.

We hear “body of work” thrown around. In fact, I saw that argument used for Huntley. Azan lost her battle and her KO for starters. She was eliminated. Kaylee’s “body of work” was also better than the other two who were picked.
