What got you into The Voice?

So, what got ya'll into The Voice?

For me, my family listened to a lot of music were vocals were one of, if not the highlight (Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, Journey, Bon Jovi and a bunch of 80s rockbands with high singing male vocals lol) So naturally that was what I listened to as well.

I guess they found out about American Idol and were closely invested for a couple seasons, particularly The David Archuleta, Adam Lambert and Jessica Sanchez years . Well after that, ig none of the contestants caught their attention so we stopped watching Idol which made me want to seek singing talent show compilations on the internet.

and out of X Facor, AI and The Voice. It was TV contestants that more often than not stood out (especially that Jordan Smith guy who seemed to be in every compilation lol) so decided to follow The Voice more closely and the rest is history.

It was quarantine and i had nothing better to do with my life, so i started watching AGT but the only things that interested me was the singing so i stopped and switched to The Voice instead. I watched the S18 premiere on Hulu and since I had no expectations whatsoever I ended up really enjoying it.

I saw S1-6 with my family, wasn’t originally intending to watch S1 (at that point I only watched Idol) but saw it flipping through channels and got interested. After that I was going to school so I kinda stopped with singing shows. Decided to watch S20 some months after it came out on Hulu then used that Soap site to watch old seasons I missed (so long story short pandemic watcher)

Why am I interested in these shows in the first place, idk lol, but I love music and the excitement of seeing great performances.

My dad when I was younger, showed me the NBC A-Capella Singing Competition, "The Sing-Off". Fun fact, Season 3 Winners: Pentatonix visited my pre-school class before they were famous, and while they were competing on the show. A few years later, my dad introduced me to, Eurovision Song Contest. My nanny also introduced me to a choir called "Only Men Aloud". They won a British choir competition show called, Last Choir Standing. Later on Youtube, I would get AGT recommendations. I started watching AGT in 2017. In 2018 I found out about The Voice, and started watching. Within the last 2 years, I've started to like The Voice way better than all the others. It's now my favorite.

I remember seeing promo for it during S12 of AGT (2017) and it caught my interest. Of course I had heard of the show before and saw plenty of videos on Youtube of Blinds and battles, but I never really motivated myself to watch a full season. I decided to watch S13 of The Voice that Fall when it aired and I enjoyed it!

Then Idol came back in Spring 2018 and people reccomended I watch that since I loved competiton shows like DWTS/AGT/The Voice. I found IDF around this time by searching for spoilers for The Voice/Idol.

I first heard about it back in Season 9 or 12, but I haven’t watched the show since these seasons. I did follow along the competition through looking at Wikipedia in Season 15. Then I found out Ava August auditioned for The Voice in Season 16, so I at first decided to watch that season in hopes that she would get a chair turn. Though she didn’t make a team, I still had some favorite artists that got chair turns that season, so I decided to make my first app team and finally get to watch The Voice in full as of Season 16.

It just ended up being a show I watched when it first aired, no real intent behind keeping up with it in the long run. Around season 4/5 I got more into it and kept up online with it. Didn't make an IDF account til I think season 9 but I'd been a lurker up to that point.

I didn't know that about you LOL. AI fans on IDF usually are veeeeeery critical about The Voice, so I'm glad to hear a case of someone who got into TV despite being an AI fan first.

Yeah. :haha: I personally don't get most of the hate on both shows. They have provided me great entertainment over the years.

I remember that when my country's version of the show premiered, it got a lot of hype here. The concept really blown my mind at the time and i couldn't help but start watching (i didn't even cared about the singing lol i was more intrigued about the whole play between the coaches and all of that). I was still very young so i didn't knew there was a whole franchise behind until time later.

So, one night i was changing channels until i saw Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine sitting on these red chairs, i inmediately knew it was the USA version of The Voice, and i decided to watch it. The first audition i watched was, yes,.no more and more less than Nick Hawk's audition (as a closeted gay kid struggling a lot with my sexuality, watching Adam Levine being called handsome by another man was something else lol). So, i couldn't stop watching after that. A few days later i discovered the official Youtube channel, and the rest is history.

Let me add the fact that, when i discovered The Voice, it was a really harsh time for me, i was struggling with anxiety and depression and it was absolute hell every single day, but the show helped me to cope with all the storm that i was having on my head at the time. So, yeah, now The Voice it's a core part of my life. And after discovering this forum on 2020 during quarantine, my obssesion with it has gotten more intense lol. It's nice to have a community where to discuss something that i enjoy a lot (lately not so much, sadly, but that's mostly on me)

I think it was Jordan Smith's blind as well for me. After that I usually just checked out audition clips on YT, and around S12 or so I sorta kept more track of the YT videos uploaded.

By S13 I officially started watching it live and in the process, discovered IDF, and around S18 or so I made an account.

Because of this Epicurious video showing people trying to crack open a coconut.

I don't know if people are even aware of this, but Tyke James from season 15 of all people shows up in this video (completely finesses the coconut btw) and I saw comments saying that he was on The Voice. I got curious so I checked a little bit of it out, then I was recommended videos from season 16 when that first aired, and I've been into it since LOL.

Honestly, I remember I was watching an audition for AGT and I think it was Darci Lynn’s audition, then i look at the recommended section beneath and it was Hannah Eyres audition and all I see is her audition singing Blank Space so I clicked it and started watching it and I remember I loved it so damn much, I started watching other auditions like Jordan Smiths, Joe Maye, We McDonalds, and more and then I started watching it on love television and I became hooked ever since! Since season 12 i’ve been watching The Voice all bc of one audition Lol

I think my family and I were just hopping between channels after watching Jeopardy (which airs on ABC at 7:30 EST), and The Voice was on - it was S2, Juliet Simms' audition. I'm a huge fan of music but grew sick of American Idol since Kris Allen won (to be fair, I do enjoy Kris Allen's music but Adam Lambert was better). I liked the idea of coaches instead of judges. I kinda lost interest in the Voice around S19, but I'm definitely interested in picking it up again, especially since the time in between seasons is a good time to catch up.

Addison Agen' s audition.  I was away from the telly while gf was watching...I heard that voice and I had to know where it was coming from.  Hooked me for 5 seasons or so.
