I wouldn't be surprised if they ranked Colin higher than Ryley :haha:. They seem to strongly dislike him, and gave him the worst score of all the PO performances.

Well this is easy. :dead:

 

Thoughts before I rank. Before watching the show I probably would have put Holly #1 but it was close. After watching all the performances even if Holly made the finale I would have ranked Grace #1 because that was one of the best live performances that I have watched. But anyways here's the rankings.

 

1. Grace

A gap the size of the Grand Canyon

 

2. Gina

3. Sorelle

Another large gap

 

4. D Smooth

5. Megan 

6. Iam

A smaller gap

 

7. Noivas

 

Another massive gap

 

8. Colin

I can not see how D.Smooth is better than Iam or Megan at all, but if you put him below the two of them, I suppose I could agree with it. I also don't think Gina/Sorelle are *better* than Iam/Megan but Gina/Sorelle have interested me more tbh.

I think those 3 are pretty interchangeable and really the only thinking I had to do. Gina I think wins the award for most improved singer as I wasn't really a fan of hers early on. Sorelle is pretty unique and while never really a top favorite of mine they gave us some fun performances so I think they were worthy of their top 3 ranking.

TV finale is not looking great for me honestly. I know last year we had Bryce and Brayden, but at least there was also Morgan and Omar...

Was tricky to compare The Voice's autotuned pre-taped performances against Idol's live performances but now that we've seen the first live show for The Voice I think the Idol cast is stronger than The Voice cast this year overall, however I do slightly prefer The Voice Top 8 over the Idol Top 8. The one good thing about The Voice's format this year is not letting America vote until as late as possible. Imagine how great Idol could've been this season if they'd kept the same elimination format but all the decisions were made by the judges until the top 8. (Not that the coaches/judges on either show make good choices all the time but at least they don't tend to be consistently biased like the voting public is biased towards white male country singers etc.)

I thought Wé, Megan and maybe even Iam yesterday were better than anyone on The Voice tonight tbh.

 

Not the most fair comparison though since the Idol cast have already adapted to lives while this is TV's first live set.

Idol has only one singer i like in the final 3 while i like at least two of the final 5 on The Voice. my favorite on  Idol though is more likely to win than my favorite on The Voice.

My rankings are gonna be a tug-of-war between uniqueness (for these shows) and also possible marketability off show. 

 

Iam's unique for these shows, so if we're to do an aggregate ranking for this season it's hard not to put him #1. The whole family/Ohana vibe is not dissimilar to the family/Christian vibe prevalent in flyover/Southern states, and is thus votebait on these show. TPTB knows this, and also know the uniqueness of what Iam represents, so they are all in for him.  He does feel like the next Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. There's nothing like him before this, and it might be hard to replicate after.

 

You feel that there's always a Megan Danielle and Colin Stough type on these shows, and it's easy to see their appeal to the masses. Someone like Megan is who minivan wants their sons to get with - a wide-eyed, Southern Christian girl, living in the straight and narrow, girl next door, willing to give it all for Him. She was cast as a minor character in the Voice's pandemic season and didn't go as deep into the religious undertones as she did in AI, which is why she fared worse in a field where CammWess, Micah Iverson and Thunderstorm won over her. That being said, it's likely easy to find people similar to her on these shows, before and after. The tie-ins with Lauren Daigle do seem pretty pronounced, and maybe she'll have a reasonable Christian career. For those reasons, I'm ranking her above NOIVAS, whose showmanship is unique but isn't showing too much marketability off show.

 

I actually think Colin is on point with today's gritty, edgy, rockier country with his Morgan Wallen and Bailey Zimmerman stylings. That Staind nu-metal song choice was a real eyebrow raiser that showed he's a cut above the stereotypical. He's more southern rock than country, but with rock on the wayside everything's being aggregated there. That being said his youth and inexperience really shows on the stage, and sometimes it looks awkward especially without the guitar. The potential marketability is what props him up.

Idk why but this made me laugh out loud.

 

As usual though great writeup. By uniqueness I'm assuming you're referring to the lane they occupy on the show and their overall journey as opposed to their voice? Cause just strictly talking about their voices, Megan, Sorelle and Iam are the most unique imo and stand out easily. I know it's them the instant I hear their voices, and I don't really hear many voices quite like theirs.
