The Voice vs. American Idol

Her solo wasn't as good as the past 2 weeks, but she definitely deserved to advance. Judging on the reception I think I liked that performance more than most people.

She surpassed her Voice placement.

 

I haven’t been watching the contestants besides the Voice Alums season, but Megan would probably be in my T5 based on what I’ve heard from her and what I’ve heard about the other contestants. I easily prefer her Idol run to her Voice run

Yeah based on your taste I feel like you'd probably like Megan and Wé the most anyway, but you might like some of Iam Tongi too, especially his version of Bring It On Home

I've mentioned this about Wé before, but I had just attributed it to Idol's sort of acoustic non-live setting.

 

However, now lives have been going on a while I still can't help but notice that Wé's tone on the voice, even in live performances, had a bit more depth and roundness to it. Not sure how else to describe it

 

It's the one thing I miss from Wé's AI journey even though in general, I think she's been better on AI. Her tone just doesn't stand out nearly as much as it used to for me.

I've been pretty down on this season so far. But D Smooth's leak is better than anything that happened tonight on AI.

AI was weakkkkk this week. There’s no way the next episode of The Voice isn’t topping it.

Honestly the past two rounds from Idol have been pretty terrible, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Voice was better last week (I only watched a few performances)

 

That said, I still prefer watching Idol? There’s something about this season of TV that has seriously made consider dropping the show entirely. Most people will blame the format (rightfully so), but I think the cast is what killed it for me  Is it the worst cast ever? Probably not. Is it the blandest and most uninspired cast yet? I’m gonna have to say yes

Sadly I have to agree with this. I just glanced at the cast and while quite a few are good, there is a noticeable lack of interesting or unique artists. Besides Sorelle(?) maybe I don’t think this season covered any bases that previous seasons haven’t already. It doesn’t help that there aren’t any people imo who are so good at what they do that it excuses them being “been there done that”

Doesn’t help that I feel that the same group of contestants have been dominating this season. Most of my favorite Auditions and Knockouts are from the same group of people (all 6 KO performances I loved had one of my T8 auditions). Even considering the small group, I’m not really attached to many of these contestants. I don’t see myself revisiting many of the performances years from now, like I can with S21 and S20. It’s been a pretty weak season honestly

I would say Grace and Holly to a lesser extent are better than the average country female. Other than that I agree.

Part of me thinks that maybe she used an unhealthy technique to have that "depth" back then as she was way more inconsistent on her voice run than on idol. The larynx being raised up or lowered can have that dramatic effect (example: xtina uses it alot to give her that "rounder, grittier" tone)

Hmm. I mean yeah it fills all The voice "quota's" but I mean, it's been the case for seasons now, so eh, doesn't bother me much.

 

 

 

I don't think we've had this many rnb male singers (3) in the semifinals before, no powerhouse, 2 female country singers and no male country singers, a teen male rnb singer (not sure we've had one this far). add in Sorelle and I think the season does standout in that way...

Yeah after just hearing the PO winners.. The voice episode tonight demolished AI last night loll. the 4 performances they posted on Social media beat anything Idol did yesterday.

Guess Imma have to choose The voice. 8 performances over 5, and we are finally hearing them live for the first time. Meanwhile, Disney week is overdone at this point.
