Hsamid
inspired by Jaffy, tried to make it similar to his titles lol. IDF in general doesnt seem to care much for either, but i thought it wpuld be an interesting comparison. They were sometimes compared ( not here) and their journey is pretty similar too. Both jazz influenced singers with naturally high tones and a wide range. They came out excellent right out of the gate with their jazzy BA's and continued to impress during prelives. However, they sort of veered off course from the style they showed in their audition and came across a few vocal issues in their live performances. Dissapointing quite a few people. However, No denying they are technically very impressive vocalists, and both have some of the widest range seen from male singers on the show. Who do you prefer and why? I'd also like to hear everyone's thoughts on them in general. (Playlist) Edited January 6 by Hsamid
nytsch
John Davon nailed I Am Changing, there's no doubt about that, but from there, it kinda fell apart. I thought his Love on Top was a mess tbh and with his semifinals performance, I get everyone's trying to pull out all the stops, but that just wasn't pleasant to listen to. John's lives weren't great either, but the only really "bad" one was Halo imo. Maybe the original song too, which I feel like wasn't really his fault (bad fit for his voice). Plus I liked Misty and All By Myself better than any Davon performance.
Someone648
Both had impressive (although not perfect) runs on the show, but I can only listen to so much of John's voice, whereas I don't really get tired of Davon's voice.

He never topped his prelive performances. However, I'm probably one of the few that liked Gravity and I found the gospel, churchy take pretty refreshing from all the same old gravity covers you hear on singing shows. It was probably his best live performance pitch wise. I can get that it was "too much" for some though. But ive always loved the "oversinging" gospel type vocals as long as they sound good doing it. 26 minutes ago, nytsch said: John's lives weren't great either, but the only really "bad" one was Halo imo. Yeah, I do think "fix me" and "fly me to the moon were better than the majority of Davon's live performances, but I don't think Davon had a performance as bad as "Halo" Edited January 6 by Hsamid

Oh yeah Gravity's a nice song, but I get tired of people doing it the same way. Out of all the times it's been done over the years Chris Jamison's BA is the only one I can remember that I liked. I actually relistened to Davon's version recently and for the first half or so, I was like "hey this sounds pretty good, why didn't I like it?" Then by the end I remembered lol.
Hamza Tufail
Fix You was one of my fav live performances of season 19. Misty was my favorite audition of the season. Summersoft was my favorite battle. Fly Me To The Moon was my 2nd fav of the night (behind Cami). His Finale performances were messes, i 100% agree on that (Halo in particular), but I thought John did really well overall. While OTOH, I the only performance that I loved from Davon was IAC. There's no denying that it was one of the best performances of the season. Edited January 6 by Hamza Tufail
Jaffy
Inspired by me? I’m honored. Davon, John could occasionally be sharp. Edited January 6 by Jaffy

But I'd say Davon went off pitch more though. That could also be due to simply having more live performances though.

Something like Tell Me Something Good by Rufus and Chaka Khan or Summertime by The Gershwins. Edited January 6 by Jaffy

Hsamid
Im actually pretty surprised this is relatively close. I remember when season 19 aired, while most respected John's talent, there were only a select few that actually loved his voice. Most could only handle him in small doses or found his tone downright unpleasant. Based on what I've been told on here, people seemed to at the very least like and not just respect Davon's talent during the prelives.

You can't really argue with JHud choosing Davon after that PO performance, and him and Chris basically occupied the same lane. But if we were just judging based on performances and overall run to that point, my ranking would be: 1. Noah (yes, I have a thing for indie guys lol) 2. Chris 3. Davon

Davon Lol my ranking would be the exact opposite, but I still really like Noah and Chris's KO is one of my all time favourites. Also, Both Chris and Davon should have went through that night. Shi'ann is the one I would have let go. Chris and Davon are pretty different too. They didn't even have much crossover genre wise. StarWalker1
Davon easily His tone never got annoying or abrasive to my ears. Plus his IAC and audition >>>
erik g
I liked both but Davons voice is much easier to listen too.

That's fair, I feel like Chris' run wasn't long enough to really see what kind of artist he was. He did 4 songs and 2 of them I'm pretty sure Jennifer chose. Based on the other two I'd say Chris is more of a classic/jazzy artist while Davon is more contemporary R&B/pop. I do remember JHud giving some explanation for choosing each artist. Basically she said that Davon had the best vocal performance and Noah had star quality. Can't remember what she said for Shi'Ann though lol.
