tolerated = jake

accepted as winner = sundance

I’m assuming your preferred winners would have been Katie or Rose (but more Rose) and Wé or Ali (either/or).

Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Tolerated by me, or by IDF in general? I'll answer the second one lol.

1. Sundance

Took some big risks with song choice and arrangement, and they (mostly) paid off.

2. Craig

Even if it's not your thing, you could probably admit that Walk the Line and Old Rugged Cross were good performances.

3. Jake

Solid, if perhaps unexciting vocalist. His KO got the attention of even non country fans and that's impressive with a lesser known song.

4. Bryce

Vocally, just not in the same league as the other 3.

Personally, it's probably the same except maybe switch Craig and Sundance. All except Bryce are close though.

For a forum that claims to don't like male country singers that much, it seems that we can't stop talking about them, for good or bad or anything. Like, i have the feeling that we already have had this conversation a lot of times.

Anyway, i'm assume it would be something like this

Sundance>Craig>>>Jake>>>>>>>>>>Bryce

Craig is my snowflake

Sundance and Bryce were even tho not my #1 choice, but I still loved them. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite of their respective seasons.

Jake Hoot tho... now that's what I'd call tolerable. Dude wasn't even in my top 5, but I still respected him. I liked him in the pre-taped rounds, but not so much in the lives.

Oh wow looking at this poll, I'm surprirsed that there have only been 4 country male winners. I thought there were more. :dead:

Sundance is definitely my favorite amongst these 4. I actually liked and enjoyed a fair good amount of his run.

I was bitter about Craig winning as that was like the first time my least favorite finalist beat all the other finalists I preferred. I can't really remember his run.

I can't really remember Jake Hoot's run either but wasn't really a fan of his either. He's someone I probably tolerated winning because it got Kelly a win there, lol.

I didn't care for most of Bryce's run but his last two weeks on the show, he had a few performances I really liked. So I guess that's enough to place him 2nd for now. :haha:

There were a LOT of country guys runners up though. Ironically third place had my two favorite country guys, Kirk and Ian.

I voted Hoot, but it´s likely Sundance now that I think about it.

Note that likely Craig winning caused a much bigger meltdown than Bryce doing so (in this case not even a meltdown, just acceptance lol), when I´m sure he´s more respected on the forum by a long shot. It´s just that I know IDF was nastier and more anti-country back then.

Craig winning now would probably get an even tamer reaction than Bryce.

Yeah, and Sundance is a hybrid (he mixes soul and rock too), so really there have only been 3 pure country winners. (I´d even dare to say Craig mixed some southern rock there, so probably just 2 lol).

But we´ve had LOTS, and I mean LOTS of country male finalists, so that seems to inflate the amount.

Was Jake Hoot really more tolerated than Craig?

Not saying people didnt like Jake. But Vocally, Craig was more consistent, and wasn't even up against your typical IDF favourites except Matt.

In comparison, Jake was against Rose, who is universally loved on here, and Katie, who had a few ardent supporters and was generally respected as a talent, even if divisive tonally and performance wise.

Here is the thing: a lot of people already expected Jake to win, while Craig winning over Matt was probably a shocker (He was the first country male to win, so IDF was likely not totally aware of the power they hold over the audience), so the meltdown when he won was perhaps pretty big in comparison to when Jake won.

I'm not sure about any of this, i wasn't here on Season 7 but that is the impression that i get.

Yeah but In season 4, two country singers made the finale that didn’t deserve it, Danielle Blandbery and the Swon Borings.

The best country singer that season, Savannah Berry, was eliminated in the KO’S.

I won't disagree with the first statement, but if we count cross-over country, then Amber Carrington would beat Savannah.

She's not that bad? I thought Danielle was very consistent throughout her run.

The finale set should have been Danielle, Michelle and Amber (Sasha could fill the 4th spot) tbh. Had TSB not had a Breakout moment in the Semi and Amber not flopped in "Fireworks" , this should have been a set.

I found Blake more objectionable that season than any of his artists per se. I mean, they want to pursue country music so you can't really blame them for that. But Blake... it was so frustrating when he chose country singers over arguably better and definitely more interesting singers of other genres because he "knew their style better". Like c'mon, the audience already has a country bias, the coaches could at least try to be objective. Plus he criticized Adam having Amber do all these things outside of country music when that's often where she excelled the most.

I think to his credit, he probably realized that and did a different strategy in S5. Unfortunately, that didn't really work out plus the producers were pushing for a non-Blake winning season.

Not that bad, I just found her a bit boring. A lot of people compare her to Chevel, but in terms of finalists she’s much more similar tonally to Emily Ann Roberts.

Yeah I was shocked they bussed Cole in the top 5. He was like a mixture of Chris Kroeze and Aaron Konzleman.

As much as I like to root for the underdog (i.e. basically any coach except Blake lol), I really do think Cole should've been in that finale. I didn't get what was so good about Will's Carry On.
